The 63-year-old comedian hosted the award ceremony five times before, but this year Nikki Glaser is emceeing Sundayâs show.

Gervais then revealed his planned monologue: âHello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year itâs been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they werenât content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the worldâŠâ
He continued, âJustin Timberlake was convicted of [drunk driving]. If heâd have gone to jail heâd have heard the words âS*xy Backâ a lot more often.â
Gervais also went after Sean âDiddyâ Combs, writing, âKevin Hart said that being at one of Diddyâs parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldnât leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout âImma Midget, not a child.ââ

Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
During his last hosting stint, Gervais roasted Hollywood in his wild opening monologue. He went after Leonardo DiCaprio for dating younger women, the failed âCatsâ movie, and Martin Scorseseâs feud with Marvel.
He also brought up Jeffrey Epsteinâs death and the college admissions scandal, which were huge news stories at the time of the January 2020 ceremony.
In 2021, Gervais told The Guardian why he goes after celebrities while hosting award shows.

âDo I pander to the 200 billionaires in the room or the 200 million people at home sitting in their [underwear] drinking beer who arenât winning awards, who arenât billionaires? Itâs a no-brainer for a comedian,â he said. âIâm a jester. I play to the other peasants in the mud.â
Ahead of her historic 2025 Golden Globes hosting stint, Glaser, 40, said on CBS Morning that Gervais gave her advice, including to just âbe yourselfâ
Glaser said Gervais also told her, âYouâve not one of them. Donât try to walk out there acting like youâre an A-lister. Just because youâre invitedâyou wouldnât be if you werenât the host.â

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Glaser said, âIâm not gonna go so hard that anyoneâs gonna be offended. Iâve made a point not to, and thatâs not to disappoint anyone whoâs hoping Iâm going to pull a Ricky Gervais. Iâm not Ricky Gervais.â

âThis isnât my last Golden Globes, this is my first one. He really went hard on his last one. He was ready to burn some bridges [because] it didnât matter anymore,â she added.
