Pop superstar Taylor Swift was named the biggest-selling recording artist of 2024, marking her fifth time to receive the honor from an organization that represents the recording music industry.

Swift came in first on the Global Recording Artist Chart 2024 released late Tuesday by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Swift also topped four other IFPI charts —  Global Album Chart, Global Vinyl Album Chart, Global Streaming Album Chart and Global Album Sales Chart — with her album “The Tortured Poets Department,” released in April.

The singer’s record-breaking “Eras Tour” generated interest in Swift’s past albums, with several of them landing on the IFPI’s global vinyl chart, the IFPI said in a statement.

“We are immensely proud to award the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award to Taylor Swift for the fifth time, as she continues to redefine the limits of global success,” IFPI CEO Victoria Oakley said.

“This has been a huge year for Taylor, and it has been incredible to see the extent to which fans all over the world are connecting with her superb catalogue of music,” Oakley added.

Swift first won the IFPI’s Recording Artist of the year award in 2014, followed by wins in 2019, 2022, and 2023—the most by any artist in the award’s 12-year history, according to the industry group.

Canadian rapper Drake ranked second on the artist chart, followed by K-pop boy band SEVENTEEN.

The global artist chart is based on “consumption of an artist’s entire catalogue across all formats, including physical album sales, downloads and streaming across both free and paid platforms,” according the IFPI.

Toppling Serena Williams in her final Wimbledon match is no small feat in women’s tennis. But rather than providing the platform for greater things to come, it proved to be the peak for Harmony Tan.

In 2022, Williams had set her sights on dislodging Margaret Court as the most successful female tennis player in the Open era as she bid for a 24th Grand Slam.

Even at the age of 40 and after the birth of her daughter, Olympia, it was regarded as a realistic aim. After all, she had won 39 Majors in singles, doubles and mixed doubles throughout her incredible career.

For nigh on 20 years, Williams had dominated the grass court at SW19 and collected seven singles titles over the space of 14 years between 2002 and 2016. The only other woman to win multiple singles titles at Wimbledon this century is Petra Kvitova.

But the American saw her dreams dashed when she came up against Harmony Tan – 115th in the WTA rankings at the time – in the first round. Tan was a relatively-unknown French player outside of the tennis mainstream. She had never even made the main draw at Wimbledon prior to coming through the qualifiers in 2022.

However, Williams had spent a year out through injury and if there was ever a time to take advantage of that, it was Wimbledon. Tan got off to the best possible start, winning the first set after a tightly-contested opener.

But when Williams stormed back to take the second, losing just one game in the process, and many would’ve expected her to go on and claim victory. After three hours and 10 minutes of gruelling play in the London sun, Tan prevailed 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7) to stun Centre Court into silence.

Even Tan couldn’t believe what she had achieved as she heaped praise on Williams: “For my first Wimbledon it’s wow – just wow. It’s a dream because I saw Serena on the TV when I was young. She’s a legend.

“When you play her, I was scared. I mean, I was scared when I was on the court, but really happy to be there.”

The effort she gave was monumental, to the extent that she was forced to pull out of the women’s doubles at the eleventh hour – leading to a minor spat with her partner Tamara Korpatsch.

Tan would go on to beat Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round and upset the home favourite Katie Boulter in the third. But her run came to an end against the 20th seed, Amanda Anisimova.

After that defeat, she would never win a match at a Grand Slam again. Her most recent encounter at a Major was her first-round defeat to Bianca Andreescu at the US Open back in 2022.

In one of the more mysterious declines, the 27-year-old dropped out of the top 100 and now plays at lower-profile ITF events, where she has won three titles. Now ranked 257th in the world, Tan doesn’t have the ranking points to prove herself again on the WTA Tour and celebrates the smaller victories.

But with Williams now retired at the age of 43, she may rue the day that she bumped into Tan on the court – and not many tennis players can say they’ve had that effect on the American before.

In a new episode of Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce, the NFL mom and podcast host, 32, clarified some recent comments she made on Call Her Daddy about not eating a home-cooked meal prepared by Taylor Swift.

In the Feb. 20 episode, Kylie clarified the “bit of confusion” her comments made associated with the double date she and her husband Jason Kelce went on with Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

“There was a little bit of confusion because that meal at home was like a private dinner,” she said of their double date, noting that it was prepared by “an outstanding chef.”

“The home-cooked meals that I did not get to enjoy were not because I refused to eat them, but because the child in my womb overwhelmed me with hormones that suggested that if I consume anything other than crackers that it might be seen again if you catch my drift,” she explained.

“Anyone that has experiences pregnancy nausea knows that it’s not a choice. At eight weeks, that’s not a choice,” added the mom of three daughters with another baby girl on the way.

“I’ve known women who’ve lived on only waffles for their entire first trimester. There are women who can only stomach cereal or crackers or pretzels,” she explained. “And you know what? Sometimes that’s me.”

“I didn’t refuse anything,” Kylie said in reference to the home-cooked meal confusion. “I wouldn’t refuse anything, especially if I was without child,” she said.

While Kylie “set the record straight” that the dinner she didn’t eat on the double date wasn’t prepared with Swift, she did reveal one home-cooked meal the musician prepared that she did get to try during that double date weekend.

“I believe they were confetti, like Funfetti pancakes,” Kylie said. “Regardless, they hit. They were so good. Baby liked them, I loved them. They were very, very good.”

Later in the podcast, Kylie confessed she was bothered by the headlines that came after her comments about Swift’s home-cooked meal.

“Why are we trying to pit women against women? Why we doing that? That seems dumb and counterproductive,” she said in reference to her and Swift.

“Anyone that asks me in person, I am very forthcoming about how much I love and appreciate her and the fact that I love that you can tell how happy Travis is and that’s what I care about,” she made clear. “So let’s not pit women against women.”
