Whoopi Goldberg was incensed by Senate Republicans voting to block a bill in early June that would have made contraception a federal right.

On this morning’s episode of The View, the panel discussed the vote on the Right to Contraception Act, which Republicans said wasn’t needed because birth control is currently protected under the Supreme Court, per NBC News.

The vote ended in 51-39, not meeting the 60 votes required to move the bill forward. After playing clips of both Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer weighing in on the issue, Goldberg gave her own heated take.

“I do not understand. If there’s nothing to see here, why are we talking about it? Why are we having a discussion?” she wondered. “Why are you so obsessed with what I do with my body? Why don’t you— see, because they don’t say, let’s, you know, let’s make it harder to get condoms.

“Let’s make a law where you say to men, hey, no self-gratification here. Make that a law. And see how fast we can move it because I’m tired,” Goldberg continued. “You know, I always say this, and I’ll say it this time: I appreciate everybody’s religious beliefs. They are your religious beliefs, and I stand by your right to believe what you want.”

She then added, “I don’t know why you are not willing to allow me to take care of my body, why you need to be part of it. I don’t get it!”

Goldberg is often vocal about women’s healthcare and the right to choose what someone does with their own body on the show. Back in March 2023, she argued with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin about birth control after Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom stopped business with Walgreens after the company chose not to sell abortion medication in certain states.

She also often defends pregnant people’s right to abortion on The View. In an April episode earlier this year, Goldberg reiterated that nobody has to have an abortion, but those who do undergo the procedure have her full support.

“No one is obligated to have an abortion. So you never have to have one. And I hope no one ever has to have one,” Goldberg said at the time. “But if you find yourself in a position where you have to, I want to make sure — and I’m way past having kids — I want to make sure that if you decide this is what you need to do, I’m going to get behind you.”

According to reports, the officers initiated the stop because the ten-time Grammy award winner ran past a stop sign and swerved in and out of his lane.

During the traffic stop, Timberlake performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety and was then charged with a  DWI misdemeanor and cited for veering out of his lane.

At a preliminary court hearing for Timberlake’s misdemeanor DWI charge, his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., claimed that the singer was not intoxicated when police pulled him over. The lawyer made the statement as part of his argument to get the charges dismissed. However, his request was denied, and an arraignment date was set for August 2 to hear the charge.

When the arraignment date arrived, Timberlake’s driver’s license was officially suspended, although it is unclear how long the suspension will last. He was not present in person for the hearing and joined in virtually to plead not guilty to the DWI charges.

The Singer Is Prepared To Accept The ‘Consequences’

After the judge rules on his DWI charge, Timberlake is expected to receive more punishment than the license suspension.

“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she wrote. “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

The Trump campaign has gotten Beyoncé’s attention for all the wrong reasons.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Donald Trump, shared a video on his own X account of the former president walking off a plane on Tuesday, Aug. 20, set to the track “Freedom” off Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade. “Touchdown in Michigan!! @realDonaldTrump,” the caption read.

The use of the song, which also features Kendrick Lamar, instantly caught attention online, as Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has used it at several campaign events.

While Beyoncé, 42, has not commented on the video, Rolling Stone reported on Wednesday, Aug. 21, that the Trump campaign did not have permission to use the track and that the singer has threatened to send the Republican presidential nominee’s camp a cease-and-desist. PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for Beyoncé for comment.

The Harris campaign most recently used the track in a new ad unveiled on Monday, Aug. 19, during the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

Although Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris, she’s voiced her support for the Democratic party on various occasions, including in 2013, when she sang the national anthem at former President Barack Obama’s inauguration. In 2020, she posted a social media clip encouraging voters for current President Joe Biden.

However, Harris has officially been endorsed by Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles.

The fashion designer, 70, posted a photo next to Harris in late July on Instagram, writing, “New, Youthful, Sharp , , energy !!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country ! Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That is the definition of a great leader, . Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership . Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #kamala2024.”

Earlier this month, the Trump campaign was called out by Céline Dion for using her 1997 hit song “My Heart Will Go On” at a campaign rally in Montana.

Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas responded to Anthony Edwards’ claim that past generations of NBA players lacked skill.

In an interview with Lane Florsheim of the Wall Street Journal, Edwards said Michael Jordan was the only player from previous generations “that really had skill” on the court.

Thomas reacted to that sentiment in a post on X:

Edwards admitted in the interview he “didn’t watch” the NBA “back in the day” and can’t speak directly about the talent level in the game then.

“They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. [Michael Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But now everybody has skill,” Edwards said.

Some of the disconnect here could stem from the fact that Edwards was born in 2001. While he could go back and watch games or clips from past generations, it’s not a prerequisite to playing in the league now.

If you’re a person of Edwards’ age—he just turned 23 on Aug. 5—the highlights he saw on television while growing up were going to skew heavily toward Jordan. Maybe you would get a clip of Larry Bird or Magic Johnson thrown in there, but Jordan remains such a towering figure in the NBA more than 20 years after his playing career ended.

Thomas and the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons were one of the best teams in NBA history, but their success can get overlooked because it was sandwiched between the end of the Showtime Lakers’ rivalry with Bird’s Boston Celtics and the start of Jordan’s dynastic run with the Chicago Bulls.

There have been plenty of extremely skilled players prior to this current era of basketball. Thomas, Johnson, Bird and Hakeem Olajuwon are among the superstars whose games would translate well to this time period.

But it’s also easy to argue that the level of skill and talent in the NBA has never been better. One reason there aren’t any dynastic teams right now is that there are more great players available.

Considering how long Thomas can hold a grudge, don’t expect him to be appearing at any Minnesota Timberwolves games to cheer on Edwards in the near future.
