Bill Maher hypes Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris: She has ‘saved democracy’
The HBO host previously claimed the music superstar could ‘literally swing the election’
“Real Time” host Bill Maher had a lot to celebrate following Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Let’s get to the big news this week: Taylor Swift finally told people who to vote for,” Maher said during a panel discussion Friday.
“Of course, immediately the response from the other side was, ‘Celebrity endorsements don’t matter.’ People are always so behind on these things, you know. That’s the conventional wisdom for a long time. Many celebrity endorsements don’t work, not in this case, okay?” Maher continued. I mean, just the number of people who immediately were registered from that tweet.”

To further prove his point, the HBO host then argued “we live in Starf—er America.”
“I mean, George Clooney is the one who got Biden to step down, I wrote the exact same editorial they did and so many other people did too. Nobody cared! As soon as George Clooney said it, he’s got to go,” Maher exclaimed.
Later in the show, Maher added that the music superstar has “saved democracy” by throwing her support behind Harris.

In February, when President Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee, Maher insisted Swift could “literally swing the election” in his favor with an endorsement.
“I’ve hesitated to cover Taylor Swift like it’s a national news story, but I swear to God- and for all my years of experience doing this, this is a national news story in the sense that this is a person who could literally swing the election,” Maher said at the time. “I don’t know what that says about this country, but I would just say to the MAGA people, you should be very careful attacking her because this is someone who transcends parties.”
It is unclear whether Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris is enough to stop former President Trump from winning the election. (Getty Images)
Swift announced her endorsement shortly after Tuesday’s presidential debate.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
Travis Kelce’s PR firm calls lawyers as document with exact date for Taylor Swift breakup goes viral: report
Full Scope PR denies the document was issued and authorized by them
Fox News Flash top sports headlines are here. Check out what’s clicking on Foxnews.com.
Rumors that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift was planned swirled around after an alleged contract with an exact date they would break up began appearing online.
A document from Full Scope PR, a Los Angeles-based firm, began circulating on social media – first on Reddit — with a split-up date of Sept. 28 for Kelce and Swift. It also appeared to outline a plan for how to handle the reaction to the break-up, including allowing “the initial media frenzy to settle and ensure clarity.”
According to The Daily Mail, Kelce’s reps have denied any such plans to break up with Swift later this month.

A spokesman from Full Scope told The Daily Mail that the document was “entirely false and fabricated and were not created, issued or authorized by this agency.”
‘We have engaged our legal team to initiate proceedings against the individuals or entities responsible for the unlawful and injurious forgery of documents,’ Full Scope added.
Full Scope PR, one of Kelce’s agents, Michael Simon, and A&A management, a group that also represents him, have not responded to requests for comment by Fox News Digital.
The document in question points out three key messages: “Respect and Privacy,” “Professional Focus,” and “Personal Growth.” There is also an example of a public statement, which reads, “Travis and Taylor have decided to part ways after careful considerations. They both value and respect each other’s personal lives and appreciate your respect for privacy during this time.”
The statement would allegedly be sent to major outlets “to ensure broad coverage.”
As for “Respect and Privacy,” the documents make sure to emphasize “that the breakup was a mutual decision made with respect for each other’s personal lives.”

In terms of “Personal Growth,” the PR firm allegedly wants it framed as the breakup being “a natural part of life and an opportunity for personal evolution.”
“Share how Kelce is focusing on personal development, self-improvement, and resilience,” the document read.
On a different page, the document also breaks down media interviews with various sports and lifestyle outlets, where the focus would be “Kelce’s recent sports achievements and future goals,” while emphasizing “his respect for Taylor Swift and the mutual decision to part ways.”
Kelce and Swift confirmed their romance together in September 2023, as Swift attended her first of many Chiefs games in Kansas City. They have been going strong ever since, from Swift traveling from a tour date in Japan to Las Vegas to watch Kelce win the Super Bowl, to the star tight end being spotted at numerous concerts this offseason around the globe.

Kelce and the Chiefs begin their 2024 NFL regular season on Thursday, as they face the Baltimore Ravens at home to kick off the new year.
Meanwhile, Swift continues her shows on the “Eras Tour,” next month in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 18.
JD Vance reacts to Taylor Swift’s jab at him, Harris endorsement: ‘Fundamentally disconnected’
Swift signed her endorsement with a dig to a controversial remark made by Vance in the past
2024 GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance remembers 9/11 and responds to the Trump-Harris debate and more on ‘The Story.’
JD Vance shrugged off Taylor Swift as “fundamentally disconnected from the problems of most Americans” after the pop superstar endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for president.
“We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music, are fans of her or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans,” Vance said Wednesday on “The Story.”

“When grocery prices go up 20%, it hurts most Americans, it doesn’t hurt Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn’t affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire,” Vance continued. “It does affect middle-class Americans all over our country.”
Swift endorsed Harris minutes after she and former President Trump wrapped up their first presidential debate on Tuesday night.
“The Story” anchor Martha MacCallum noted that Swift took a jab at Vance in her announcement, signing off as “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.” The refrain, which has gone viral in recent weeks, referenced a comment made by Vance in 2021 when he declared that the U.S. was effectively being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.” He has since defended the remark as a “joke” that was “willfully misinterpreted” by Democrats.

Swift, who posted a picture of herself cradling her cat above her endorsement on Instagram, said she will be voting for Harris because “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Vance said he believes the Trump campaign has a more compelling and relatable message for female voters, highlighting the GOP pledge to restore public safety nationally.
“I think our pitch to women voters is very simple. Donald Trump delivered policies that lowered the prices of groceries, lowered the prices of housing and most importantly, Donald Trump delivered public safety in our country.”
He continued, “I’ve got three little kids, I want my kids to grow up in a country where the neighborhoods are safe enough, the streets are safe enough for them not to make mistakes and not have it take their lives. 20 years ago, [if] you smoke a joint you got yelled at by your parents. Today you smoke a joint, it’s laced with fentanyl and might take a teenager’s life.

“I don’t want that for my family, I don’t think most women want that for their neighborhoods and their families and our argument is elect Donald Trump. We will redeliver the public safety that has been so lacking in this country the last few years.”
Earlier Wednesday, Trump appeared to be unbothered by Swift’s endorsement of Harris, remarking in a “Fox & Friends” interview that he expected her to endorse the Democratic nominee.
“It was just a question of time. She couldn’t […] possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden, you couldn’t possibly endorse him,” Trump said, clarifying that he is “not a Taylor Swift fan.”
“She’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat,” he added. “And she’ll probably pay a price for it […] in the marketplace.”
What the Taylor Swift endorsement of Kamala Harris means for the November election

Democrats believe Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris could encourage more young voters to turn out in November, but recent polling indicates the pop star’s support might not greatly affect voter decisions at the ballot box.
Swift, an outspoken critic of former President Trump, endorsed Harris after the presidential debate Tuesday. In an Instagram post that she signed “childless cat lady,” the pop icon said Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom told Fox News Digital from the debate spin room the endorsement “matters.”
“Some advice to Donald Trump. Don’t disparage that endorsement at your own peril,” he said. “She is a cultural icon. Something big has happened in the world in terms of the energy, environment she’s associated with. The optimism she’s associated with. That was a big deal.”

One Democratic strategist told Fox News Digital that Swift’s support could encourage more voters to turn out at the polls.
“It absolutely will impact young voter turnout. And Trump knows it,” said Jessica Tarlov, a Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor. “What’s important about how she did it is that she explained her thinking and how past experience — the AI-generated images of her — have impacted her personally and her decision.
“This isn’t the Taylor Swift of 2018, wondering whether she should wade into politics. This is 2024 Taylor Swift, who knows who she is and isn’t afraid of backlash for saying what she believes.”
A Suffolk University/USA Today poll from May reported that about 83% of respondents say that a Swift endorsement would “not at all” influence their decision on who to vote for in November.
Recent polls suggest Harris leads Trump among young voters, traditionally Swift’s main support base.

According to a recent New York Times/Siena survey, Harris leads Trump by 10 percentage points among voters aged 18-29.
“As a first-time voter this November, my peers and I will not be voting for Kamala Harris because Taylor Swift and her cats told us to do so,” Brilyn Hollyhand, RNC Youth Advisory Council Chairman and a Generation Z voter, told Fox about the endorsement.
“I think when you look at it, it’s not actually making any difference. This is all vibes and no policy,” he said. “I think no amount of pop stars or viral memes that she’s trying to do are going to make Gen Z vote for her when she has no plans to fix the nation she’s broken.”
Trump told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday he wasn’t surprised by the endorsement and is “not a Taylor Swift fan.”

“It was just a question of time. She couldn’t […] possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden, you couldn’t possibly endorse him,” Trump said.
“But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it […] in the marketplace.”
While an endorsement might not make or break a decision, a Monmouth University poll released in February found that 68% of respondents are OK with Swift encouraging her fans to vote this cycle.
Following the endorsement, the Harris-Walz campaign released friendship bracelets for purchase on its website that appear similar to those worn by fans during Swift’s “Eras” tour.

Swift’s endorsement of Harris came after former President Trump and Harris participated in a debate on Tuesday night hosted by ABC News.
Swift said on Instagram that she will be supporting Harris because “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered!” Swift wrote to her 283 million followers. “I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”

Swift’s reference to cat ladies was a swipe at comments made by Trump’s running mate JD Vance, who said during a 2021 interview: “We are effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

Meghan Markle is a ‘dictator’ who ‘terrifies’ staff, has ‘reduced grown men to tears,’ bombshell Hollywood Reporter exposé claims
Meghan Markle is a ‘dictator’ who ‘terrifies’ staff, has ‘reduced grown men to tears,’ bombshell Hollywood Reporter exposé claims
Meghan Markle appears to be in royally hot water.
A bombshell new report alleges that the Duchess of Sussex, 43, terrifies her staff, with one source describing her as a “dictator in high heels” who has reduced “grown men to tears.”
The embarrassing exposé was published by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, and is likely to rattle Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, who is celebrating his 40th birthday this weekend.
“Everyone’s terrified of Meghan,” a source close to the couple alleged in the article, which examined high-turnover among the Sussex’s staff.
“She belittles people, she doesn’t take advice. They’re both poor decision-makers, they change their minds frequently. Harry is a very, very charming person — no airs at all — but he’s very much an enabler. And she’s just terrible.”

“She’s absolutely relentless,” another insider told the outlet. “She marches around like a dictator in high heels, fuming and barking orders. I’ve watched her reduce grown men to tears.”
Markle and Harry have had high staff turnover throughout the years. Markle’s top aide and private secretary departed in 2021, and last month, the couple’s chief of staff resigned after just three months on the job.
But the “Archetypes” podcast host is no stranger to being criticized for her behavior toward her employees. In 2018, Buckingham Palace investigated Markle for her treatment of two royal aides, which was labeled as “bullying behavior.”

The Palace never released their findings, but Markle called the claims a “calculated smear campaign.”
The report comes on the heels of a prominent royal expert claiming that the former actress is regretful over the way her dramatic exit from the royal family went down four years ago.
Markle closed the door on royal life in 2020 alongside Prince Harry, with the pair’s move to Montecito, California prompting a major ongoing rift — especially with Prince William, and his wife, Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
“Meghan does regret certain statements that she made,” royal expert and commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News. “They weren’t received in the way that she had expected and several of her comments have backfired.”
“She and Prince Harry deeply regret the royal racist controversy. Meghan wanted the takeaway from their Oprah interview to be about her mental health,” Schofield continued. “And I think Meghan regretted sitting down with the Cut because she provided endless commentary for her critics.”

The new article from The Hollywood Reporter — one of the entertainment world’s most respected publications — could put a dampener on the Duke of Sussex’s 40th birthday this weekend.
Harry will mark the milestone on Sunday, and is expected to receive a massive $8.5 million cash windfall, thanks to arrangements made by his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The late monarch put $90 million into a trust fund for her family and listed that Harry was to access his share of the trust when he turned 40 as one of the fund’s stipulations.
It’s official: Caitlin Clark just put the entire WNBA on serious notice. In what can only be described as a basketball masterclass, the Indiana Fever star set the new WNBA rookie scoring record, leaving everyone else—including former record-holder Seimone Augustus—in the dust. And the best part? Clark did it in true showstopping style, with a mind-boggling fourth-quarter performance that had fans on their feet and jaws on the floor.
Let’s get to the juicy details: Clark went into the Fever’s final home game of the regular season with the kind of energy that makes you wonder if she’s part human, part cheat code. Facing off against the Dallas Wings, she not only dropped her fourth three-pointer to hit a total of 745 points on the season (casually surpassing Augustus’ 744-point record from 2006), but she also added a career-high 35 points to her night’s resume. Just when you thought she couldn’t do more, she led Indiana to a dramatic 110-109 win, like she was playing a solo game of “Can I do everything myself?” Spoiler alert: she can.
The Fever’s playoff dreams are alive, and it’s all thanks to Clark. “I’m proud of this group and the way we fought,” said Clark, who, let’s be real, was the fight. “These fans deserved this win, and I’m just happy we could deliver.” Talk about humble—delivering wins and records, just another day in the life of Caitlin Clark.
The Art of Breaking Records (and Opponents’ Spirits)
Sure, scoring is her bread and butter, but Clark is serving up full-course meals with a side of playmaking. Currently leading the league in assists per game with a ridiculous 8.4, she’s flirting with the WNBA’s all-time single-season assist record. It’s like she’s playing basketball with a controller in her hand while the rest of us are still figuring out how to turn the TV on.
In Sunday’s game alone, Clark casually tossed in eight assists, reminding everyone that, yes, she can pass the ball too. Honestly, if you were a teammate and didn’t score, that’s probably a you problem. Clark is dishing out assists like Oprah gives away cars: “You get a basket! You get a basket! Everyone gets a basket!”
Clark-enomics: The Fever’s Secret Economic Weapon
Forget trickle-down economics—it’s all about Clark-enomics. The Caitlin Clark effect isn’t just making waves in the win column; it’s turning Indiana into the hottest ticket in town. A staggering 605,358 fans have piled into Fever games this season to catch a glimpse of the basketball phenom, making Indiana’s attendance numbers the highest since the Washington Mystics in 1999. You know you’ve got it made when people show up just to see if you might break another record that night.
With Clark in the mix, Indiana Fever games are no longer a leisurely Sunday activity—they’re a full-blown event. Vendors are probably selling popcorn faster than Clark racks up points, and ticket scalpers are doing somersaults in delight. Clark has turned Indiana into the Beyoncé concert of the WNBA, and nobody’s complaining.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work—Or at Least a Postseason Push
The Fever’s regular season might be winding down, but with Clark teaming up with the electric Kelsey Mitchell, Indiana is primed to make some noise in the playoffs. Standing at 20-19 with one last game against the Washington Mystics before the postseason, the Fever’s destiny is in their hands—or more accurately, in Clark’s capable hands (and deadly shooting range).
If the Fever can ride this momentum, we’re in for a postseason that might just become the Caitlin Clark Show. And honestly? We’re all here for it. Whether she’s breaking ankles, records, or hearts, Clark is giving us the kind of performances that keep us on the edge of our seats.
A Rookie Like No Other
Caitlin Clark isn’t just making history—she’s rewriting it with a sharpie and adding emojis. If you blink, you’ll miss her breaking yet another record. Her meteoric rise has everyone wondering if there’s anything she can’t do. (Spoiler alert: nope, there’s not.) One thing is for sure—Clark isn’t just a rookie; she’s a one-woman highlight reel and a WNBA legend in the making. Watch out, world—this is just the beginning.
Donna Kelce Says She’s ‘Having the Time of My Life’ Now, ‘More Than Ever’ Before (Exclusive)
“It’s just fun being free like that and not having to keep secrets,” the mom of Jason and Travis Kelce tells PEOPLE exclusively on set of the Thrive@50+ campaign

Donna Kelce is in her thriving era!
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE on the set of the GSK’s Thrive@50+ campaign ahead of its launch, the famed football mom explained why she’s relishing this current period of her life more than ever before.
Ever since her sons Jason and Travis Kelce played against each other in Super Bowl LVII, Donna has been in the spotlight, from countless interview appearances, partnership opportunities, to even an upcoming role in a movie.
“Everybody knows everything about our family,” Donna, 71, tells PEOPLE. “What they’re doing and who they’re dating and this and that,” she says, a subtle nod to Travis’ romance with one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

“It’s just fun being free like that and not having to keep secrets,” Donna adds, in between takes with Brooke Shields and Gina Torres during their campaign photoshoot in Brooklyn, New York. “I am having the time of my life now, more than ever.”
Despite having new responsibilities and duties to tend to that come with a life in the public eye, Donna shares that she’s no longer under the time crunch that existed when her boys were growing up, when she had to make sure the boys had breakfast and their clothes were clean.
As part of the Thrive@50+ campaign, Donna and the women on set exchanged friendship bracelets with words that were significant to them. The football mom chose “‘persistence,” a word she says helped her boys’ NFL dreams come true.

“They just kept at it. They were the water boys, they did odd jobs, they stayed there and just kept at it and kept practicing and practicing,” Donna says of Travis and Jason, who went on to have Super Bowl-winning careers on the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Still, Donna continues to champion her grown children in their NFL endeavors as Travis attempts to clinch a third consecutive championship with the Chiefs and Jason embarks on his new job as analyst on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, after 13 years in the league.
“I’m going to support him in that effort too,” Donna says of Jason, adding, “Especially when he’s in Kansas City because then I get to see both boys at the same time, which doesn’t happen often.”

Even if that means traveling game to game, Donna assures she’s prioritizing herself, too. “It’s an important part of my life right now to do the things that I want to do and focus on myself,” she says. “I know it sounds selfish, but you have to do that because health is so important.”
That’s why teaming up with GSK’s Thrive@50+ made sense, she says. The campaign celebrates those who are age 50 and older, encouraging them to learn about risks for potential health challenges like shingles.
Donna says that “everybody” needs to take ownership of their health, regardless of age. “That’s the most important thing you can do.”
The Heartbreaking Tragedy of Val Kilmer: A Hollywood Legend’s Struggle
Val Kilmer, the iconic Hollywood actor known for his magnetic performances in films like Top Gun, Tombstone, and The Doors, has lived a life that has captured the imagination of moviegoers for decades. His deep voice, rugged charm, and undeniable talent made him one of the most sought-after actors of the 1980s and 1990s. Yet behind the glittering facade of fame, Kilmer’s life has been marked by a tragedy that is truly heartbreaking—a battle with throat cancer that has taken away his voice, his primary tool as an actor, and forced him to confront a future vastly different from the one he had envisioned.
Kilmer’s ascent to Hollywood stardom was nothing short of meteoric. After gaining attention in 1984’s Top Secret!, Kilmer solidified his reputation with iconic roles in Real Genius, Top Gun (as the unforgettable Iceman), and later as Jim Morrison in The Doors, a performance that earned him critical acclaim. His portrayal of Doc Holliday in Tombstone remains a fan favorite, and his portrayal of Batman in Batman Forever proved his versatility.
At the peak of his career, Kilmer was seen as a Hollywood heavyweight, a man whose intensity and commitment to his craft set him apart. His reputation for being difficult to work with also stemmed from his deep dedication to his roles. Despite the whispers of challenging on-set behavior, his work was undeniable. For fans, Val Kilmer was a larger-than-life figure, someone who always seemed destined for greatness.
However, behind the scenes, Kilmer’s life took a devastating turn in 2015 when he was diagnosed with throat cancer. As one of the most private stars in Hollywood, Kilmer initially kept his illness hidden from the public, choosing instead to endure his fight away from the spotlight. For years, there were only rumors about his health, fueled by his visibly thinner appearance and increasingly scarce public appearances.
Eventually, Kilmer opened up about his battle with cancer, revealing that he had undergone a tracheostomy, a procedure that drastically altered his voice. His once-booming, commanding voice, an integral part of his acting presence, was reduced to a raspy whisper. For an actor, especially one like Kilmer who had relied on his voice to create unforgettable characters, this was nothing short of catastrophic. The world saw the physical toll the illness had taken on him, and it became clear that Kilmer’s days as a leading man in Hollywood were over.
The tragedy of Val Kilmer’s story lies in the loss of his voice. For an actor, especially one with Kilmer’s gravitas, the voice is not just a tool—it is a way of expressing emotion, of captivating an audience, of transforming into another person. Kilmer, whose voice had been such a distinctive and powerful part of his performances, now found himself unable to speak with the same authority and nuance that had defined his career.
For Kilmer, the loss of his voice was a profound blow, both personally and professionally. Acting had been his life, his passion, and now he found himself stripped of the very thing that had made him famous. The physical challenges were immense, but the emotional and psychological toll was perhaps even more severe. Kilmer’s inability to act in the way he once had left him struggling to find a new sense of purpose.
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Kilmer’s story is not one of complete despair. His resilience in the face of overwhelming adversity is remarkable. Rather than retreating from the public eye entirely, Kilmer has embraced his new reality with courage and grace. He documented his battle with cancer and the changes in his life in the 2021 documentary Val, which offered fans a rare glimpse into his life, from his early days as a young actor to his recent struggles with health.
Val serves not only as a tribute to Kilmer’s incredible career but also as a testament to his unbreakable spirit. In the documentary, viewers see a man who, despite the loss of his voice, continues to communicate with passion and heart. He now speaks through a voice box, but his words are no less impactful. Kilmer’s humor, wit, and love for his craft shine through, reminding everyone that his identity as an artist is not solely defined by his ability to speak.
Kilmer’s journey is a reminder that even the brightest stars face challenges that the world may never see. His story resonates deeply because it is one of triumph, even in the face of heartbreaking loss. While his voice may never be the same, Kilmer’s legacy as one of Hollywood’s greats remains untarnished. His performances in some of the most iconic films of the last several decades ensure that his place in cinematic history is secure.
Fans continue to rally behind him, offering support and love as he navigates this difficult chapter in his life. Kilmer, ever the artist, has embraced his new role as a source of inspiration, showing that even when life takes away something precious, there is always a way to keep moving forward.
Val Kilmer’s battle with throat cancer is undeniably tragic, but his story is also one of survival. While the loss of his voice is a cruel twist for an actor of his caliber, Kilmer has chosen not to let it define him. He continues to create, to inspire, and to live his life with the same intensity and passion that made him a Hollywood legend in the first place.
For many, Kilmer’s struggle is a symbol of the fragility of life, especially in a career where fame can fade as quickly as it arrives. But Kilmer’s resilience serves as a powerful reminder that even in the face of unimaginable hardship, there is always a way to find purpose and meaning. The tragedy of Val Kilmer is heartbreaking, but his story of courage and perseverance is one that will continue to inspire for generations to come.

A ballgirl at the Davis Cup was visibly stunned as Casper Ruud suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Henrique Rocha. Ruud went down in straight sets despite being the overwhelming favourite to win, with Rocha claiming the biggest victory of his young career.
The 20-year-old, representing Portugal, made a fast start to proceedings and capitalised on his opponent’s mistakes to claim the first set. He managed to keep up his form in the second, with Ruud struggling to get himself back into the contest before slumping to a 6-3 6-4 defeat.
Ruud’s surprise loss to Rocha, who is ranked 150 places lower than him, went down as one of the biggest shocks of this year’s Davis Cup. One of the ballgirls was visibly taken aback by the outcome, with her reaction to the winning point saying it all.

Rocha’s victory was confirmed when Ruud made an unforced error during a rally, with the Norwegian getting his bearings wrong and firing wide. In response, the ballgirl dramatically fell to her knees and put her hands on her head in utter disbelief.
It was certainly a major surprise, given that Rocha had only secured one win over a player in the top 100 before beating Ruud. He has enjoyed a productive year, winning the Murcia Open and reaching three semi-finals at other tournaments.
Rocha recently linked up with coach Pedro Sousa, who has known him for several years and believes he has the potential to emerge as Portugal’s greatest tennis export.
“His power is not normal,” said Sousa. “His forehand, his explosion were very good and impressive for a kid who was 15. The way he already moved and hit the forehand, it’s unbelievable.
“At least in Portugal, we are not used to seeing that a lot of times. We don’t have that many players, but even for the rest of the world, it’s not that common the power he can put in his shot, especially in his forehand.”
Ruud, meanwhile, will be hugely disappointed after failing to avoid an upset defeat while representing his country at the Davis Cup. He was outgunned by Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals of the US Open earlier this month and is yet to rediscover his best form.
