“Taylor Swift Reveals Shocking Details About Her Childhood Job on a Christmas Tree Farm in a Resurfaced Video

“Taylor Swift Reveals Shocking Details About Her Childhood Job on a Christmas Tree Farm in a Resurfaced Video

In the folklore of Taylor Swift’s life, there are certain details and events that have come up repeatedly over the years. Some are referenced repeatedly in her lyrics, but stay off-topic in interviews (like certain early events in her relationship with Joe Alwyn—the initial attraction while she was seeing someone else, the dive bar date, the big rooftop talk), others are part of her mythology in song and interview form—like her childhood growing up on a Christmas tree farm.

In addition to being the subject of her 2019 Christmas song, this oh-so-quaint detail is a very real part of Swift’s origin story. Before her family moved to Nashville so she could pursue her music career, the Swifts really did live on a Christmas tree farm in West Reading, Pennsylvania.

A full decade before she released “Christmas Tree Farm” the song, Swift opened up about her experiences growing up on said farm during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. In the clip, which has resurfaced in time for the holidays, Swift shared that she had a job on the farm: collecting praying mantises from the Douglas fir trees.

“They lay eggs and they form pods on the Douglas firs Christmas trees,” she explained. “It’s their favorite tree to infest.”

“That’s where I would come in,” she continued. “I would walk around the Christmas trees all day and pick them off and put them in, like, a little basket … so people wouldn’t have bugs in their houses.”

Swift continued to reference her Christmas tree farm days over the years, including during a 2014 interview with Esquire, in which attributed the experience with her eternal love of the Christmas season.

“It was such a weird place to grow up,” she said. “But it has cemented in me this unnatural level of excitement about fall and then the holiday season.”

And then, of course, there’s “Christmas Tree Farm” the song, which Swift released in 2019, along with a music video featuring real-life footage from the Swift family’s holiday home videos back in the day.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Mai sparked headlines in June after footage surfaced of her rocking a Jayson Tatum Boston Celtics jersey at an event following the team’s NBA championship.

Furthermore, the clip appeared to show her burgeoning stomach.

The clip immediately prompted social media users to speculate she was pregnant. At this time, however, neither Mai nor Tatum have publicly confirmed welcoming a child together. Page Six reports that a rep for the outlet has contacted representatives of both stars for comment.

However, the outlet has yet to hear back.

    Jayson Tatum

    GettyJayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to two young parents. His mother Brandy Cole-Barnes and his father Justin Tatum were 19 years old when he was born and he was raised mostly by his mother. Tatum has a half-brother and half-sister on his father’s side. Tatum has frequently spoken about his close bond with his family, especially his mother and son Deuce who are often courtside at Boston Celtics games cheering him on.

Here’s what you need to know about Jayson Tatum’s parents and family:

    1. Jayson Tatum’s Mother Is Brandy Cole-Barnes & She Obtained a Law Degree in St. Louis, Missouri Despite Being a Single Mother

Tatum’s mother is Brandy Cole-Barnes and the two have been very close his whole life, prompting the NBA star to describe his mom to ESPN as his “best friend.” Cole-Barnes was just a few weeks past her high school graduation when she learned that she was pregnant with Tatum.

From the onset, Cole-Barnes said she was determined not to become a statistic about teenage parents and decided she was still going to go to college, and she also wanted to live in her own home with her son. “I always was so proud that we had our own home, and he loved it here,” she told Bleacher Report. “When you’re a kid, you shouldn’t be worried about packing up the stuff in your room and going to live with your grandma. It was a pride thing: ‘I’m going to do this. I’m not going to become a statistic.’”

Cole-Barnes began working several jobs to pay for school and their bills as she was also studying at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She gave birth to Tatum on March 3, 1998, during spring break of freshman year but still returned to class the following week to take her midterms, she told Sentinel & Enterprise.

Cole-Barnes got political science and communications degrees and then returned to get her law degree. Throughout her schooling, she’d often have to bring Tatum to classes and he’d keep busy in the back of the class with a book or a video game.

“I kept quiet, listening in here and there — to me, most of her professors seemed boring and talked a lot,” he wrote in an essay for The Players’ Tribune. “But I had my things to focus on, she had hers. It felt normal. So that’s what we did. When my mom couldn’t afford a babysitter and Grandma was working, we’d go to class together.”

When Tatum was growing up, his mother placed a big emphasis on his education, even more so when it became clear that he was a very talented basketball player. He wrote that his mother didn’t want him to be “only an athlete” and wanted him to be well-spoken and thoughtful. Tatum recalled having to keep his grade above a B in order to compete in basketball tournaments. He said he only slipped up with his grades once and learned that his mother was serious about the rules.

Although Tatum left Duke after just one year of college, Cole-Barnes hopes he will eventually get his degree, she told Today. “He also likes to point out that I have four degrees and he makes significantly more money than I ever had,” Cole-Barnes laughed. “I was like, ‘That’s logical. You have a point.’”

Cole-Barnes now lives in Boston and is often seen accompanying Tatum’s son Deuce to Celtics games. She married Marcus Barnes in 2016 in the Bahamas.

    2. Jayson Tatum’s Father Is Justin Tatum, a Former Basketball Player Who Now Coaches a High School Team in St. Louis

Tatum’s father is Justin Tatum, who was also a basketball star in his youth and now works as a high school coach in St. Louis, Missouri. Justin Tatum played high school basketball at Christian Brothers College High School and his bio on his website indicates that he won a state title in 1997.

Justin Tatum met his son’s mother when they were teenagers and they became parents when they were both freshmen in college. Tatum Sr. attended Saint Louis University (SLU) and studied criminal justice while playing on the basketball team.

His bio states, “He helped lead the SLU Billikens to a Conference Championship in 2000 and made an NCAA appearance under Coach Lorenzo Romar. During Justin’s time at SLU he was named the Conference USA First Team All Defense player and was ranked 6th in blocked shots at SLU.”

Tatum was exposed to basketball early as he often attended his father’s college games and played with the ball, even as a toddler, the Boston Globe wrote. After college, Justin Tatum pursued a career in the Netherlands, meaning that Tatum didn’t see his father very often when he was younger.

Cole-Barnes told ESPN that her son always knew his dad and Justin Tatum was in his son’s life but the two never lived together and Tatum was around 8 years old when his dad returned from overseas.

Justin Tatum began coaching varsity basketball at Soldan High and the Globe reported that the future NBA star joined their practices at the age of nine onward. “By the time he was 12, he was giving my players problems,” Justin Tatum shared. In fact, he became his son’s coach and Tatum revealed that he was very hard on him.

During a candid interview on “In Depth With Graham Bensinger,” Tatum shared that having his father as a coach put a “strain” on their father-son relationship and their entire connection was based on basketball. He recalled his father yelling and swearing at him during matches and he’d push him up against the lockers as the young boy bawled. “I felt like he didn’t like me as a kid because he was so mean to me,” Tatum said. “Of course he did, but as a kid, I couldn’t separate coach and dad.”

Tatum and his father have a great relationship now and the NBA star has credited his father for pushing him to become the player he is now. In one Instagram post, he wrote, “Happy birthday to my pops @j_tat thanks for everything. Especially for showing me how to be a man. Couldn’t ask for a better relationship with my father. Love you OG!!”

In addition to coaching at his alma mater Christian Brothers College High School, Justin Tatum also runs summer basketball camps for kids in St. Louis, his website shows.

    3. Jayson Tatum Grew Up With His Mother in a Small Home in St. Louis & She Worked Hard to Pay Their Bills

Although his father was involved in his life, Tatum lived with his mother and was mostly raised by her in a small two-bedroom house. Cole-Barnes shared that she didn’t want to live with family members and wanted to have a home of their own, but it wasn’t always easy to pay the bills.

The Boston Globe reported that there would often be utility cuts when they didn’t pay their bills on time. Sometimes it was the heat, other times it was the water or the electricity. Cole-Barnes often worked a couple of jobs at a time in addition to her classes and schoolwork to make ends meet. “We had a lot of tough times,” Tatum told ESPN’s Sage Steele in an interview at his old home.

“I remember the nights we didn’t have anything to eat,” he said, and a neighbor two doors down would help them out with a chicken pot pie. “I remember coming home and there being a pink eviction notice on the house and my mom cried the whole night,” he said. A blue tarp covered half of the roof because they couldn’t afford to fix it.

“I remember coming home from school before I go back to practice and going to use the bathroom and trying to turn the water on,” he continued, only to find out there was no water. He said he’d call his mother to tell her and hear her sigh on the phone before telling him, “I’ll figure it out.”

His mother always made it work though, he wrote. “My mom found a way to keep our house after we got that eviction notice,” he wrote in The Players’ Tribune. “Just like her college degrees, just like her late nights working multiple jobs, she found a way.”

    4. Jayson Tatum Has 2 Younger Siblings From Another Relationship of His Father’s

Tatum has two younger half-siblings from another relationship of his father’s. He has a brother named Jaycob Tatum who was born on January 27, 2004, and is currently attending Western Illinois University. His college athletics profile states that he attended Christian Brothers College High School and is a football player. The 6’3″ linebacker graduated high school in 2022 and is now a freshman in college.

Tatum also has a younger sister named Kayden Tatum who was born on April 30, 2014. The NBA star has often posted photos with his siblings wishing them a happy birthday and showing that he spends time with his father and siblings. In January 2019, Tatum wrote, “Happy birthday to my lil brother @jaycobtatum2 love you lil dude Super proud of you! Continue to be special and create your own path! Enjoy your day kid!”

He posted several photos and videos with his sister, including one on April 30, 2018, that said, “Happy 4th birthday to my Baby Sis Kay-Kay! Enjoy your day!! bruh bruh loves you ❤️❤️❤️.” Tatum also shared an adorable video showing himself going to the zoo with his sister back in 2016.

    5. Jayson Tatum Has a Son Named Deuce Tatum & He Said Being a Father Has Motivated Him to Be Better

Tatum’s son is Jayson Christopher Tatum Jr., better known by his nickname Deuce. He was born to Tatum and his high school girlfriend Toriah Mimms on December 6, 2017. At the time, Tatum was in his rookie season with the Celtics and Deuce’s mother moved to Boston from St. Louis so their son could be raised close to both parents, who were 19 years old. Mimms now works as a hairstylist and has a good co-parenting relationship with Tatum.

Tatum said having his son at such a young age made him mature really quickly and that the two are “growing up together,” he shared in a press conference. His son has become a celebrity at TD Garden and he’s often featured in Celtics videos either high-fiving Tatum’s teammates or helping them out in the warm-ups.

“It motivates me, because I understand that 24 hours of the day I’ve got somebody watching everything that I do,” Tatum shared with Heavy Sports. “So it motivates me to make the right decisions to be the best role model essentially on and off the court.”

Tatum’s mother shared on “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” that her son and grandson are so similar and very close. “They’re a lot alike,” she said. “And neither one of them show me any attention when the other one’s around,” she smiled. “I mean, Deuce will wait up until two in the morning if he can and he will sit and look out the door waiting on Jayson to pull up home after a game. I’m just blessed to be able to watch it.”

There are a lot of things for Jayson Tatum and his girlfriend Ella Mai to celebrate. The pair have a newborn child, Tatum is somewhat fresh from winning his first NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics and has also just won his second Olympic gold medal.

The past few months may have been quite hectic for Tatum and Ella Mai but they’ve finally found time to relax. In her latest Instagram Story, Ella Mai showed that she took a trip to Disneyland as a way to unwind.

In her story, she can be seen rocking the trademark Mickey Mouse ears and a pair of stylish glasses.

It is unclear if she is there with Jayson Tatum, but the pair have always remained lowkey in their relationship. So, he is unlikely going to make an appearance in Ella Mai’s posts if he was there.

The two appear to never have posted about each other on their official Instagram accounts, let alone officially confirm their relationship to the public. However, they have been seen together on multiple occasions.

Ella Mai, who is a Grammy Award winner, has been rumored to be dating the Celtics star since 2020. She was asked about these rumors in an interview but declined to comment.

The two were first spotted at an event in 2022, two years after the rumors about them began. Since then, fans have caught glimpses of them together, including in the 2024 Finals when Tatum won his first NBA title.

Ella Mai seen celebrating Olympic gold medal win with Jayson Tatum and family

The 2024 Paris Olympics ended in glory for the USA Men’s National Basketball team as it resulted in them bringing home their fifth straight and 17th overall gold medal. Since basketball became an Olympic sport, no other team has won more golds in the event.

Tatum, who played a key, yet somewhat controversial role in Team USA’s roster, celebrated the win with his family. He was seen posing with his son Deuce as well as Ella Mai, who also carried in her arms her newborn child with the Boston Celtics star.

Several fans were disappointed that Steve Kerr benched Jayson Tatum in a couple of games throughout Team USA’s run at the Olympics. In the team’s six games, Tatum was benched twice, both times against Serbia.

When he did step onto the court, the Celtics star played a sparkplug-type role, energizing the team’s offense off the bench. In the four games that he played, he averaged 5.3 points per game as well as an equal amount of rebounds.

His best game was in the group stage against Puerto Rico where he notched a double-double, consisting of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Watch: A’ja Wilson reveals secret handshake with Deuce Tatum from Team USA’s Olympic Game

A handshake with Deuce Tatum is one of A

A’ja Wilson led Team USA to another gold-medal-winning campaign in the Olympics. After winning her first gold in Tokyo three years ago, Wilson returned to get her second and the Americans’ eighth straight. The two-time WNBA champ capped off her summer by earning the tournament MVP award.

Wilson shared on Instagram several mementos of her time in Paris. She was at courtside with Snoop Dogg to support the men’s basketball team. The Las Vegas Aces franchise cornerstone also giddily posed for a photo beside Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian in history.

The IG post also contained one video clip that received heartwarming responses. A’ja Wilson shared a brief moment with Deuce Tatum, Jayson Tatum’s son, and exchanged a secret handshake.

Wilson and the younger Tatum might have worked on that handshake in Paris. The two unlikely had time to work on that smooth handshake before the Olympics. Wilson spends time with the Aces while Deuce’s father stars for the Boston Celtics in the NBA.

Despite the less-than-ideal time to work on their chemistry, A’ja Wilson and Deuce Tatum delivered. The exchange was good enough to make it to Wilson’s “favorites” from her “camera roll.”

A’ja Wilson had photos with A-listers such as Snoop Dogg, Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky but the heartwarming reactions most involved Deuce Tatum. Zhuri James, LeBron James’ daughter, is also in the collection so it naturally got some comments. But, it was the handshake with Tatum’s son that got plenty of response.

One fan described where the handshake with the younger Tatum ranked in the album:

“A Deuce secret handshake is top tier”

Another fan melted after seeing the clip:

    “The Deuce handshake awwww”

Somebody included Zhuri James with Deuce Tatum in the reaction:

“Not you and Deuce having a handshake and nothing beats Queen Zhuri”

The 2024 Paris Olympics was likely more fun and memorable for A’ja Wilson as her time in Tokyo happened during the Covid-19 pandemic. She led Team USA to the gold, beating host 67-66 France in the thrilling championship game and won tournament MVP.

Basketball fans will be hoping Wilson wants to create more memories or more “favorites” from her “camera roll” ‘in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Americans will be raring to defend the gold in front of an adoring home crowd with her at the helm.

Jayson Tatum remembers how it felt when he first bought a home.

“It didn’t seem real,” said the Boston Celtics power forward, a five-time NBA All-Star set to start for the Eastern Conference in this year’s All-Star Game on Sunday.

Tatum told The Associated Press in an interview how he wants to help others in his hometown of St. Louis get that feeling themselves and buy their own homes. He said financial services company SoFi has given the Jayson Tatum Foundation $1 million to help do that.

The gift announced Tuesday will establish the SoFi Generational Wealth Fund at the foundation, which will grant funds to homebuyers to help with a down payment.

“I can’t stress enough how excited I am just knowing how many lives and the families that we can impact,” Tatum said. “And I can only imagine how much this would have impacted myself and my mom growing up.”

Big basketball donation comes with a dose of star power

Celtics star Jayson Tatum was in Dorchester Wednesday to present a large donation of basketballs and training equipment for kids.
Tatum, 25, was raised by his mother, Brandy Cole-Barnes, who was 19 when he was born.

“Me and my mom, we didn’t know about investments or savings accounts when we were growing up. But obviously when I got to the NBA and started to make money, we had to ask questions and learn about things,” Tatum said. “And it was always important for me, even when I was younger. I just knew I wanted to give back and help people that looked like me and grew up like me.”

Established in 2017, the same year he was drafted by the Celtics, Tatum’s nonprofit hosts toy drives, back-to-school giveaways and basketball camps in St. Louis. It also offers scholarships to St. Louis high school students along with mentoring. The new fund is part of a program that will support single parents, an idea Tatum said he had for a long time and was waiting to find the right moment to launch.

“It’s about making sure you’re with the right people,” Tatum said of his philanthropic work, which he sees as being about a lot more than donating money.

“I always go back to St. Louis as much as I can, as often as I can, especially in the summertime,” Tatum said. “Just knowing the impact that I can have on my community by being there, by being present.”

SoFi will contribute the funds over three to five years and the foundation will determine how to select participants, who are not required to take out a mortgage through SoFi. However, SoFi will offer all participants access to financial advisory services and tools.

With his team leading the Eastern Conference and the All-Star Game on Sunday, Tatum said it seemed like the perfect time to draw attention to financial literacy and generational wealth.

“Buying a home is a significant milestone – representing stability, security, and investment – these are things we believe everyone deserves a chance at achieving on their financial journey,” said Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi, in a statement. The company also announced a partnership with the NBA to be its official banking partner and is sponsoring the SoFi NBA Play-in Tournament in April.

Jayson Tatum's Mom Shares New Glimpse Into Celtics Star's Success

Brandy Cole chats with Latoyia Edwards ahead of Mother’s Day, when her son, Jayson Tatum, and the Celtics will play in Game 7 against the 76ers.
Jason Belinkie, CEO of the nonprofit Athletes for Hope, which advises athletes who want to give back, said they suggest athletes start out by working with existing organizations to deepen their knowledge of community needs.

“Similar to visualizing their journey in their sport and going through these different steps to achieve their goals, they should think about their philanthropy in the same way,” Belinkie said.

Starting a new nonprofit has pitfalls that many athletes don’t anticipate, said Andrew Morton, an attorney and partner at Handler Thayer, who leads their sports and entertainment philanthropy practice. He advises athletes to work through a fiscal sponsor and said that even athletes without a huge platform or millions to donate can make a big difference if they align their goals with their reach.

“If you’re super well-known and have a huge platform, you should be addressing macro issues like social justice or homelessness or hunger,” Morton said. “If you’re a back-up left tackle, you should be raising money to put books in your hometown library or buy sports equipment for your high school.”

Tatum said part of his goal with this initiative is to change the narrative around his hometown.

“There are some really good people in St. Louis — people who are really trying to help change their life and their situation. And it’s tough,” Tatum said. “And nobody was ever successful on their own. We all somewhere along the way needed help or assistance by somebody that we knew or didn’t know.”

He played in the lopsided loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers and produced his usual numbers but sat out the second night of a back-to-back against the Washington Wizards.

He was again out in the win against the Chicago Bulls.

The Bucks listed him as questionable for the Thursday game but was scratched off few hours before the tip off.

Fans are both unhappy and confused with the development.

Others are disappointed because they will not see their superstar play.

Doc Rivers clarifies Giannis Antetokounmpo’s continued absence

The Greek Freak was previously out due to back spasms but the reason behind his absence against the Nets is for a different reason.

Rivers said the league’s current top scorer has recovered from the injury but is now dealing with an illness, something that he also did not identify.

“He was expected to play and then whatever’s going around, it was just his turn, I guess,” Rivers told The Athletic’s Eric Nehm.

Rivers said “turn” because his other star Damian Lillard caught the illness first.

Good thing for the Bucks, the guys who are left are taking care of the business well, led by Khris Middleton who just returned from an ankle injury.

Boy hugs mom’s coffin after she dies birthing his brother

Death is an unavoidable part of life, yet many people believe that young children should be shielded from such sensitive topics. They worry that discussing death might confuse or hurt their young minds.

However, children sometimes face the harsh realities of life sooner than expected.

This was the case for a 5-year-old boy named Khayne Kheian Naelgas Castro from the Philippines, who lost his mother during the birth of his younger brother.

Tragically, the boy did not fully understand what death meant and thought his mother was simply asleep, leading to a heartbreaking scene where he fell asleep hugging her coffin.

According to the foreign media outlet Tribun Pekanbaru, Khayne’s mother passed away due to complications during the birth of his younger brother, Cyril Khayzer Castro. The family was left grieving the loss of a young mother and caring for two little boys.

But young Khayne could not grasp the finality of death. He spent much of his time quietly sitting by his mother’s coffin, looking down at her, waiting for her to wake up. He would occasionally lay his head on the coffin, his innocent heart still hopeful that his mother was only temporarily asleep.

The boy’s grandmother, who was there to witness the tender moments, shared the painful scene on Facebook, expressing her heartache.

“This child asked me, ‘Why can’t mommy sleep with me anymore?’” the grandmother wrote in her post.

She explained that she had no way to explain the concept of death to the little boy. Heartbroken, she could only watch as Khayne continued to carry a small stool to the coffin, climbing up to gaze sadly at his mother’s still face. He tried to hug her, unaware that she would never wake up again.

The images shared by the grandmother showed how deeply Khayne longed for his mother. In one particularly touching photo, the young boy is seen leaning against a chair next to the coffin, his small body appearing exhausted.

He even pushed several chairs together, made a makeshift bed, and lay down beside the coffin as if he could meet his mother in his dreams. His devotion and innocence were evident in his actions, making the scene even more heart-wrenching.

The photos quickly spread on social media, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from netizens around the world. Many were deeply moved by the boy’s sorrow and left encouraging messages under the grandmother’s post.

They hoped that Khayne and his family could find strength to cope with the devastating loss. Some people even offered financial assistance to help the family during such a difficult time.

The grandmother responded with deep gratitude, saying: “May God bless everyone, and please continue to pray for Cyril, who was just born. We hope he can grow up steadily and healthily after coming into our lives.”

This story, while deeply sorrowful, also shows the importance of supporting grieving families, especially young children who might not fully understand the concept of death.
