Justin Baldoni Sues New York Times for $250 Million Over Blake Lively Harassment Story

Justin Baldoni is responding after Blake Lively filed a legal complaint, accusing the New York Times of orchestrating a “strategic and manipulative” campaign centered on his It Ends With Us costar.

Days after his It Ends With Us costar Blake Lively filed a complaint accusing him of sexual harassment and participating in a smear campaign against her, the actor—among a group of 10 plaintiffs—has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times for their Dec. 21 report, which centered around Lively’s allegations.

Bryan Freedman, the attorney who filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court Dec. 31 on behalf of the plaintiffs, told E! News in a statement that the NYT “cowered to the wants and whims of two powerful ‘untouchable’ Hollywood elites, disregarding journalistic practices and ethics once befitting of the revered publication by using doctored and manipulated texts and intentionally omitting texts which dispute their chosen PR narrative.”

In response, the NYT said in a statement, “We plan to vigorously defend against the lawsuit.”

“The role of an independent news organization is to follow the facts where they lead,” the statement read. “Our story was meticulously and responsibly reported. It was based on a review of thousands of pages of original documents, including the text messages and emails that we quote accurately and at length in the article.”

While Lively’s initial complaint—which listed Baldoni, his production company Wayfarer, colleague Jamey Heath, publicist Jennifer Abel and “crisis communications specialist” Melissa Nathan, among others, as defendants—was filed with the California Civil Rights Department, Lively’s legal team also filed a formal lawsuit against the parties in the Southern District of New York on Dec. 31.

In response to the lawsuit against the NYT, attorneys for Lively told E! News, “Nothing in this lawsuit changes anything about the claims advanced in Ms. Lively’s California Civil Rights Department Complaint, nor her federal complaint, filed earlier today.”

“While we will not litigate this matter in the press, we do encourage people to read Ms. Lively’s complaint in its entirety,” the statement concluded. “We look forward to addressing each and every one of Wayfarer’s allegations in court.”

Freedman, a lawyer for Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios, previously denied Lively’s complaint allegations, calling it “another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation.”

“These claims are completely false,” he continued, “outrageous and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt and rehash a narrative in the media.”

In both of the Gossip Girl alum’s complaints—California Civil Rights Department complaint and her federal complaint—she detailed a meeting that took place in January 2024 to address “the hostile work environment that had nearly derailed production.”

According to the documents, obtained by E! News, parties present at the meeting, including Lively, husband Ryan Reynolds, Baldoni, as well as Wayfarer exec and producer Heath, among others, “discussed in detail the inappropriate conduct that Ms. Lively, her employees and other cast and crew experienced at the hands of Mr. Baldoni and Mr. Heath.”

Among those details, per the complaint, were “showing nude videos or images of women, including producer’s wife” to Lively or her employees, no more “mention of Mr. Baldoni’s or Mr. Heath’s previous ‘pornography addiction’” or mentioning actress’ late father Ernie Lively.

As a result of the discussion, all parties present agreed that the “conduct would cease.” And filming was able to be completed the following month.

Lively’s complaints also allege that the smear campaign has impacted her family, including her and Reynolds’ four kids: James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, born in 2023.

“Worst of all, however, has been the impact on their young children, who have been traumatized,” the complaint notes, “and emotionally uprooted in ways that have substantially impacted their well-being.”

“There are days when she has struggled to get out of bed, and she frequently chooses not to venture outside in public,” the docs add of Lively. “While she has fought to maintain her personal life and business interests, behind closed doors she has suffered from grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety.”

Angel Reese has seemingly clapped back at the sexist comments Charleston White made on the “Club 520” podcast. Ever since Reese was a student-athlete at LSU, she has been advocating for women’s sports. In the wake of the sexist comments by the social media personality, the Chicago Sky rookie reposted her April tweet, writing, “Protect young women in sports!!!” While it was not a direct reply to White’s comments, it’s possible that White was reminding her audience of the importance of uplifting women’s sports.

White was a recent guest on former NBA player Jeff Teague’s  “Club 520” podcast — with hosts DJ Wells and Bishop B Henn — where he made sexist remarks regarding Reese and the WNBA. “I think Angel Reese wanna sell p***y,” White said, adding that she should “do OnlyFans” and “dunk in some panties.”

Unfortunately, this is not the only time Reese has been subject to sexist claims following her entry into the WNBA earlier this year. On Reese’s podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” she had Shaquille O’Neal on when he went viral for the controversial comments he made about the WNBA. The NBA legend suggested that the women wear very short shorts to attract more views to the franchise.

“Imagine you in the same little shorts you had on at the Wild ‘N Out show dunking,” referring to the shorts Reese wore when she made a cameo Wild ‘N Out Live Tour’s Chicago stop.

“You know how many T-shirts you’re gonna sell?” he asked before adding, “You’re tripping.” Reese was seemingly uncomfortable with his comment as she rolled her eyes and said, “Oh my god.”

“What? Them same little shorts you had on at Wild ‘N Out …” O’Neal continued before Reese tried to stop him from continuing.

“Okay. Alright. Alright. Alright. Alright,” she repeated.

“Who are Jeff Teague and the Club 520 Podcast sponsors???” another fan asked. “There is no way these corporate sponsors can see Charleston White talk so nasty about the top stars in the WNBA and allow their partnerships to continue…”

A fan weighed in on the disappointment they felt after watching the show.

“Club 520 was on a generational run, and they f-cked it up at the goal line by having Charleston White on to spew his usual nonsense. You really hate to see it,” another fan chimed in.

None of the hosts have commented yet about the backlash.

Jeff Teague speaks out about viral moment.

Former NBA star Jeff Teague is speaking out about the viral sexist comments a guest on his podcast made about Angel Reese and the WNBA. On Teague’s “Club 520” podcast, which he cohosts with DJ Wells, and Bishop B Henn, they praised Reese and the work the WNBA is doing but their guest, Charleston White, spewed sexist comments that went viral.
“I think Angel Reese wanna sell p***y,” White said adding that she should “do OnlyFans” and “dunk in some panties.”

While White was the one to make the comments, the other hosts laughed and continued to carry on.

The moment occurred on a live episode of the podcast which aired on Monday, Dec. 30. Teague decided to respond to the backlash the following day.

“We had great times with Angel Reese,” Teague said in the next episode. “She’s cool people. We don’t even look at her like that. We see her as a little sister, a little homie.” He added that because the show was live, there was no control over the editing process and if it hadn’t been live it would have never been aired due to the nature of White’s comments.

“We have nothing but love for Angel Reese,” he continued. “She’s a phenomenal player and an even better person.”

Social media was set ablaze following the release of White’s podcast episode.

“The lames at the Club 520 Podcast thought Charleston White’s ignorant comments about Angel Reese were worthy enough to post,” one X user wrote. “Jeff Teague should be embarrassed. Imagine thinking this episode would lead to a collaboration with the WNBA. Nasty work.”

Another X user, posted a quote by the late Malcolm X on how Black women are treated in America.

“All ill say on the Charleston White appearance on the Jeff Teague podcast is Malcolm X words ring true “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.”

While a formal statement from Reese has not been made public, the Chicago Sky rookie made a repost of a previous tweet on her account following the scrutiny from the “Club 520” podcast.

“protect young women in sports,” the April post read. So far, Reese has not made another post in relation to the backlash.
