“When I wake up, I make coffee for me and Jeff, then we have a great time talking to each other. The kids are not awake yet and we don’t use phones. This is one of the rules Jeff sets,” Sanchez, Bezos’ girlfriend, said on September 5.

  • Jemele Hill Unleashes Furious Rant Claiming Caitlin Clark Receives Different Treatment From Media Compared To Black Players

Jemele Hill Unleashes Furious Rant Claiming Caitlin Clark Receives Different Treatment From Media Compared To Black Players

Jemele Hill has a serious issue with Caitlin Clark, but it’s not from something she did or said, but from the media who covers her.

Caitlin Clark, the Iowa Hawkeyes superstar, is the biggest name in women’s college basketball over the past few years and it’s not even close. She has been billed as the female Stephen Curry and draws eyes to her just like him.

Not only do fans flock to see her, but the media coverage of her is insane, which is a problem for Jemele Hill.

The former ESPN host is arguing that the media covers white players like Caitlin Clark much more differently than they do with Black players.

“Everything about this sport has been trending up for years now. It did not just start with Caitlin Clark,” Hill said in an interview with Uproxx.

“A study I cited recently for a piece I wrote in The Atlantic [found that] when you compare [the coverage] of, say, someone like (Paige) Bueckers, Sabrina Ionescu, or Caitlin Clark to A’ja Wilson, who has dominated basketball at every single level. She’s probably the best player in the world right now. And I’m not trying to act like she gets no coverage, but the coverage that sometimes non-white women get, or specifically Black women get, is not even close. It’s two-to-one,” Hill added.

Jemele Hill rips 'irresponsible headlines' on Caitlin Clark's WNBA ratings impact before proving their point | Fox News

Hill further added that A’ja Wilson, arguably the best player in the world, deserved more coverage than what Caitlin Clark is getting right now.

“I mean, Aliyah Boston was the best player in college just a couple of years ago. And she did not get even a 10th of this media coverage that Caitlin Clark did. Now, some people would say, ‘Oh, it’s her game.’ But I don’t think it was that. She’s tremendous on television, and I’m thinking, What a missed opportunity for the national media to really elevate who she was as a person. Caitlin Clark seems to be a great personality, but it is not like Caitlin Clark is walking around saying crazy stuff. They’re just covering her excellence, and that’s good enough. Whereas it feels like for Black athletes to get the same amount of coverage or even fair coverage, there has to be something extra [beyond basketball].”

Clark is having a fabulous run with the No. 1-seeded Iowa in her senior year. The superstar guard has broken several NCAA records as she looks to add a National Championship to her resume before she departs to the WNBA after the year.

Despite what Jemele Hill may think, Clark will not only be etched in college basketball history for her incredible scoring feats but also for her overall impact on the women’s game.

Caitlin Clark is a ratings and attendance darling in college, and she can bring that excitement surrounding her to the WNBA and that is a good thing for everyone.

Not only can she be a draw for her home fans, but also for other fan bases on the road. The WNA is already trending upward and Clark will only help it go to even bigger heights with her presence.

Everyone should be rooting that she turns out to be the WNBA version of Stephen Curry.

  • WNBA in HUGE TROUBLE

    WNBA in HUGE TROUBLE

Caitlin Clark has emerged as a transformative figure in the WNBA, captivating fans with her dynamic play and record-setting performances. Her impact on the league has been nothing short of remarkable, leading to a surge in viewership, merchandise sales, and ticket sales, especially for the Indiana Fever, a team that previously struggled to draw attention.

However, as the playoffs unfold without her presence, the WNBA is confronted with a stark reality: the league’s viewership has plummeted from an average of 1.8 million to a mere 161,000 when Clark is absent.

WNBA in SERIOUS TROUBLE! Caitlin Clark's Exit Causes MASSIVE Ratings Collapse! 🚨 - YouTube

This sharp decline raises serious concerns for WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert and her team. Clark has undeniably been a game-changer, not just for her team but for the entire league.

Her ability to draw crowds and engage fans has shifted the narrative around women’s basketball, turning the Fever into a must-watch team. Attendance skyrocketed by 156%, and TV ratings nearly tripled during her games, attracting viewers who may never have tuned in before. This enthusiasm and engagement have created a palpable buzz around the league, but with her out of the picture, that excitement has waned.

The WNBA’s current predicament highlights a broader issue: the league has heavily relied on Clark’s star power, and now it finds itself grappling with empty arenas and dwindling ratings. The playoff games, once electrified by her performances, are now struggling to even hit half a million viewers.

This not only affects fan engagement but also threatens the financial stability of the league, which, despite the NBA’s substantial annual investment of $200 million, still operates with revenue that pales in comparison to the NBA’s $3 billion.

Caitlin Clark's first WNBA playoff game was a blowout loss … but a win for ABC viewers - The Athletic

Compounding the situation is the apparent lack of promotion surrounding Clark. Despite being the league’s most significant asset this season, the WNBA has not leveraged her star power through substantial marketing campaigns or high-profile endorsements. This missed opportunity raises questions about the league’s strategic approach to building its brand and attracting a wider audience.

Moving forward, the WNBA must recognize the urgency of diversifying its star power and cultivating new talent. While Clark is a remarkable player, relying solely on her is not a sustainable strategy.

The league needs to foster rivalries, enhance storytelling, and elevate other players to the forefront. Engaging narratives and charismatic athletes can help to create a more vibrant league atmosphere that keeps fans invested, regardless of individual player performances.

Caitlin Clark Effect' Is Real, but WNBA Playoff Boost May Be Fleeting

The WNBA stands at a crossroads. It can either wait for the emergence of another superstar or take proactive steps to build a more robust and diverse ecosystem. If it continues down the path of over-reliance on a single player, the current challenges may evolve into more significant issues that could threaten the league’s future.

As fans and stakeholders, we must ponder the question: Can the WNBA survive without Caitlin Clark, or are we witnessing the beginning of deeper problems within women’s professional basketball? The answer lies in the league’s ability to adapt and innovate.

By seizing the moment and investing in a broader array of talent and narratives, the WNBA can position itself for sustained success, even in the absence of its brightest star

Caitlin Clark wanted all the smoke.

    MSN

On Thursday night, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark had just drained a long three and immediately got into an altercation with Seattle Storm Star Victoria Vivians.

The replay showed Clark staring her down as they walked down the court, and teammates had to come in and separate them before things escalated.

Both Clark and Vivians would receive a technical foul for their actions.

Now that she has racked up three technical fouls in the 2024 WNBA season, Caitlin Clark needs to exercise extra caution.

Tuesday’s 88-82 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Sparks extended the Indiana Fever’s unsatisfactory start to the season. They are currently in 11th place with a 1-7 record, their worst start since 2021. The outcome did have one positive aspect, though, and that was Caitlin Clark’s historic performance.

Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, finished with 30 points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks on 7 of 16 from the field and 13 of 15 from the foul line to mark her first career 30-point performance. Even though Clark struggled in the turnover department once again with seven, the outing was still a significant accomplishment for her.

Caitlin Clark’s team might continue to lose games, but she is undoubtedly getting better.

In a game, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve 30 points, three blocks, and three steals. Only Tamika Catchings scored more in her debut season (32, twice), but her 30 points ranked as the third-highest by a rookie in Fever history, per ESPN.com.

“I think I just played with an aggressive mindset,” Clark said. “I think that was the biggest thing — to play downhill the best I could. We did some good things, and then we just kind of shot ourselves in the foot.”

Clark shot 7-for-16, including 3-for-10 from the 3-point line, and made 13 of her 15 free throws.

  • Fatal flaw Bucks must fix at 2025 NBA trade deadline

Fatal flaw Bucks must fix at 2025 NBA trade deadline

Can the Bucks address this crisis of theirs amid another middling season?

    featured-image

The 2024-25 season has been nothing short of trying for the Milwaukee Bucks. Expectations for them were high now that they had a full offseason of work with both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard on the roster under the tutelage of head coach Doc Rivers. However, the Bucks have not been as good as most had envisioned prior to the start of the season — after weathering an uneven start to the season en route to winning the NBA Cup, they’ve gone 6-6, failing to make much headway in the East standings.

At this point, sample size for the Bucks’ mediocrity is only growing by the second. Antetokounmpo may be playing at an MVP level, but it’s hard to envision Milwaukee beating the likes of the Boston Celtics or Cleveland Cavaliers in a seven-game series as presently constructed. Being as good as the team has been for nearly a decade now has its costs, and they put all their eggs in the Lillard basket, and that gambit hasn’t quite worked out as well as they would have hoped.

Regardless, with the Bucks being wedded to their current core, all they can do now is add a few pieces to make the most of what they have. This is not to say that they’ve fallen into the sunk cost fallacy; there simply are no reasonable ways for them to add to the roster unless they become willing to part ways with one of Lillard, Khris Middleton, or Brook Lopez — and all indications suggest that Milwaukee may not be inclined to do so.

To that end, this is the fatal flaw that the Bucks have to address if they were to give the Bucks or the Cavs a worthy challenge for Eastern Conference supremacy.

Bucks need to address lack of identity

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard (0) and forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) react during the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Hawks in a semifinal of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup at T-Mobile Arena.

    Candice Ward-Imagn Images

There are some times when lack of depth goes beyond not having enough players to fill a winning rotation. The Bucks, to their credit, have gotten plenty of contributions from the likes of Andre Jackson Jr., and AJ Green, both of whom weren’t exactly heralded prospects when they came to the NBA.

But there seems to be something missing from the Bucks ever since they traded Jrue Holiday away in the deal that netted them Damian Lillard. One of those missing things has been a lockdown defender at the point of attack, although it’s a testament to the defensive impact of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez that their defense ranks 11th this season — an improvement over last year’s performance.

However, the most worrying thing about the Bucks is their lackluster offense; this is a team that should be forcing opposing teams into a conundrum every time Lillard and Antetokounmpo are involved in the action. But it’s the lack of respect other teams have for the players around them that cap the team’s ceiling on that end of the floor.

The Bucks have no reliable shot creators outside of Antetokounmpo, Lillard, and Khris Middleton, and Middleton is even dealing with injuries of his own, forcing Milwaukee into a tough spot. Milwaukee has so many players who are reliant on others to create for them, so when defenses are forcing the role players into biting off more than they can chew, the game becomes difficult for the entire team. They currently rank 15th in terms of points scored per 100 possessions — not exactly a recipe for success considering their middling defense.

Even the last excellent Bucks team (at least in the regular season) wasn’t very adept at offense; during their 58-win 2022-23 campaign, they ranked 15th in offensive rating. Of course, their elite defense back then more than made up for it. But now, this Bucks team seems to be caught between two minds in what seems to be a bit of a confused way to build a roster.

At this point, choosing an identity and building around that said identity is something the Bucks have to address.

    Milwaukee’s trade options are limited

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers takes Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) out of the game in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum.

    Michael McLoone-Imagn Images

The Bucks are a second apron team, which means that they cannot package two or more players in a single trade to match salaries and potentially bring in a more impactful piece. This is quite limiting in what they can do, although they do have the contracts of Bobby Portis ($12.6 million) or Pat Connaughton ($9.4 million) to trade away.

Portis has been a major piece for the Bucks for a while now while Connaughton has been in and out of the rotation — making it more likely for the latter to be traded away. Connaughton’s contract, however, won’t be able to bring in an impactful player anyway, or at least someone who could help take the Bucks to a higher level. A three-team trade (or bigger) may be required, and here are a few trade ideas that could help Milwaukee right the ship.

  • Is Now a Buy-Low Opportunity To Invest in Bucks Title Futures? Market Capper Predicts Trade Deadline Could Bring “Substantial Change” to Roster In Pursuit of 2nd Ring

Is Now a Buy-Low Opportunity To Invest in Bucks Title Futures? Market Capper Predicts Trade Deadline Could Bring “Substantial Change” to Roster In Pursuit of 2nd Ring

Sunday afternoon, the Milwaukee Bucks did not put on a confidence-inspiring performance against the Knicks by losing 140-106. While they remain just a game back of the four-seed at 20-17, their 0-8 showing versus the East elite of Cleveland, Boston and New York, has become a ubiquitous caveat regarding Milwaukee’s title potential.

In media-narrative-world, losing in such fashion to the Knicks undid some of the positive momentum the Bucks regained on their three-game win streak coming into Sunday. And it provides ample fodder for real concerns.

While this is hardly the nadir of what has been an up-and-down season, certainly Milwaukee stock, after the team failed in a marquee spot with prove-it potential, is not very high at the moment.

But if they make a move at the trade deadline, a significant one, the roster could receive a major boost once that transaction dust has settled.

Might this team be viewed quite differently after the February 6 deadline has passed?

Off Horrendous Loss to New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks Could Appreciate in Value If They Get Giannis Some Help

Taking a peek at betting markets can provide useful data simply to gauge the intersection of expert and public perception surrounding certain teams and players.

Before tipoff Sunday, the best price for the Bucks to win the conference finals was +1200, giving them an implied probability of 7.69%. Afterward, it jumped to +1500, or 6.25%.

Clearly the Bucks are a team in need of help, whether that comes from internal transformation or acquiring outside talent, and the idea is not that they have a good shot to win the East. Rather, given the longer odds, it could be intriguing to see how those odds could change were Milwaukee to make a splash.

    Milwaukee Bucks, Jimmy Butler

Senior NBA writer and host of the Buckets Podcast, Matt Moore of the Action Network had this to say on the show:

“I am very keen to hear about trying to piece together rumors involving the Milwaukee Bucks because I think that a substantial change in their structure is possible, and so it would potentially make them a better team long-term and come playoff time.”

Well, fans would certainly hope a trade would improve this squad in a major way. What would a +1500 ticket look like six weeks from now if, say, the Bucks got a Jimmy Butler, or a Bradley Beal, even a Cam Johnson or an RJ Barrett? What would the odds be then? Obviously there would be a transition period, but if they played really good basketball in the weeks post-trade, the Bucks might win back serious consideration–not just an honorable mention as a franchise on the fringe– as a title-contending team.

Moore clarified that there is no reason to invest in a team (or as fans, to get too hopeful) based on the latest trade rumors or projections, but it is a factor to keep in mind as the deadline approaches.

If the Bucks don’t do anything before the deadline, Moore allowed that “the results could be disastrous” for bettors–essentially, they would be stuck with a dead bet. This observation is also interesting in suggesting, in at least one analyst’s opinion, that Milwaukee is not a likely threat as constructed. Despite Doc Rivers’ confidence, after the Knicks beatdown many fans agree.

Fellow Action Network writer Jim Turvey did offer the opposing viewpoint that the Giannis-era Bucks have already won a title, proving their “ceiling” as a team. Moore conceded that Milwaukee is still “finals capable” simply because of Giannis’ dominance and the exhaustion of dealing with him over a seven-game series.

This would only work, though, “if everything clicks just right.” Other than the in-season tournament run and a championship that doesn’t even count toward their record, there just hasn’t been enough to indicate that the team will get there with the guys they have.

Are wedding bells on the horizon for Jennifer Hudson and Common?

The rapper, 52, chatted with his EGOT-winning partner about marriage while guesting on Thursday’s episode of her talk show. In July, he made headlines after teasing that if he were going to get married, it would be to her.

“I heard you’ve been even out there talking about marriage,” Hudson asked Common. “What’s that about? I mean, I just happened to notice that!”

Common responded by quoting Hudson’s mother that “a man knows what he wants,” and he told the “Dreamgirls” star he was expressing his “true feelings” when he said that “if I should be married, it would be to Jennifer Kate Hudson. I was just being honest!” He subsequently turned the tables by asking Hudson where she stands on this.

“I support that idea,” Hudson told him. “I think it’s a beautiful idea!” But before the audience could get too excited, she cautioned that this would be in “due time,” if it “ever gets to that place.”

Common added that he knows “what purpose is” and feels like “this is purpose right here.”

The rapper also presented Hudson with gifts during their interview, including jewelry and a blanket with the title of her upcoming holiday album, “The Gift of Love.” According to Hudson, Common helped her name the album.

Hudson later gushed about Common, calling him a “very special man” who “radiates positivity and embodies it in everything that he does,” and presented him with a “joyful spirit award.” After handing Common the award, the two shared a kiss, prompting cheers in the studio.

When you hear his name, Common, you think of a storyteller, a poet, an artist who speaks truth to power,” she said. “But when I think of this man, Rashid, I think of your heart, your faith, and what I love most about him: He is a praying man. He is a man of his word. He is like nobody I have ever seen in my life. Talk about choosing joy. You are joy. You are my joy, and you are light.”

Following months of rumors that they were an item, Common appeared on Hudson’s daytime talk show in January, where she playfully asked him, “Are you dating anyone?” He not-so-subtly confirmed he and Hudson were together by telling viewers that his girlfriend has an EGOT, won “an Oscar on her first movie,” and has “her own talk show.”

I’m in a relationship (with) one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in life,” he said, adding, “This relationship is a happy place for me.”

Hudson said at the time she was “dating as well” and is “very happy.” Speaking about the relationship briefly with People magazine in June, she shared, “Everything is wonderful. That’s all you need to know.”
