The leve of talent in the NBA is as high as its ever been, but questions have emerged this season on how to make the game more aesthetically pleasing in the wake of ratings leaving much to be desired when compared to other American sports.
Could one of those changes be an adjustment to the 3-point line in an effort to bring down scoring?
NBA commissioner Adam Silver appeared on Wednesday’s edition of “The Herd,” explaining the league’s position on potentially moving the 3-point line.
“I recognize that to the extent that offenses start to look very similar, we lose [distinct team identities],” Silver told host Colin Cowherd. “At the same time, the league is going through a transformation. Players like Victor Wembanyama, players like [Nikola] Jokic are doing things big men never did historically. It wasn’t that long ago that the conversations you had with [former commissioner] David Stern, we would bemoan the lack of skill among some players, that there was a sense there was too much physicality around the game.
“I don’t want to sort of knee-jerk move the 3-point line. We’re sort of going through a process now, seeing how these players are adapting to the new rules and figuring out whatever changes we should make.”

“I think the fact that now we’re selling competition in every market and from a television standpoint, too, whether it’s Oklahoma City, whether it’s San Antonio, whether it’s Salt Lake City, that those teams are in a position, when well managed, to compete in the same way the large markets can.”
The Celtics, Nuggets, Warriors, Bucks, Lakers and Toronto Raptors make up the previous six NBA champions. That six-year run comes at the end of the Warriors winning four championships in eight seasons and the teams that James played on winning four titles in nine seasons (Miami Heat twice, and Cavaliers and Lakers once).
Adam Silver has heard concerns about the volume of three-pointers NBA players are taking and he plans to make change.
During a Wednesday appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the host asked Silver about the phenomenon and the commissioner claimed changes are coming to address it.
“As stewards of the game, Joe Dumars leads our competition committee here, we will tweak it, we will correct those issues,” Silver said.

He continued, “What do we do to change it? I agree to the extent that you start to see very similar offenses around the league. Teams have brands, teams have identities, Joe Dumars is a colleague now at the league office, the Bad Boys, etc… the Showtime Lakers. So, I recognize that to the extent that offenses start to look very similar, we lose that.”
He did add that the NBA can’t go too far and overcorrect, which could lead to plodding paint-focused basketball.
As an example, this season the Boston Celtics are taking a league-high 49.4 three-pointers a game and making only 36.2% of them. They are averaging 90.8 field goals per game, meaning 54.4% of their shots are coming from beyond the arc.
The Milwaukee Bucks have been desperately searching for some sort of consistency; the Bucks have been playing .500 basketball ever since winning the 2024 NBA Cup, and this is not the level they want to play at considering their lofty championship ambitions.
On Tuesday night, the Bucks played host to a surging team in the Sacramento Kings, and this game easily could have gone sideways for a Milwaukee team that’s still searching for answers. But thanks in large part to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s dominance, the Bucks went ahead and took a 130-115 victory that wasn’t as close as the final score would suggest.

The Kings simply had no answers for Antetokounmpo; the Bucks star feasted on Sacramento’s soft interior defense and put them to the sword, and in the process, he recorded his fifth triple-double of the season. tallying 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. And in so doing, Antetokounmpo made his way into an exclusive club that only 12 players in NBA history are a part of.
According to the official NBA account on X (formerly Twitter), the Bucks star became just the 12th player in NBA history to record 50 or more triple-doubles in their career.
Among active players, Antetokounmpo ranks seventh in total career triple-doubles with his 50th coming against the Kings on Tuesday night. He is behind the likes of Russell Westbrook (202), Nikola Jokic (145), LeBron James (120), Luka Doncic (80), James Harden (78), and Domantas Sabonis (63), although the Bucks star has a long way to go before he catches up to any of them considering that those players are not yet done stuffing stat sheets.
Antetokounmpo is one of the most dominant forces the league has ever seen, and this just goes to show how far his game has come beyond his excellence in the field of running and dunking. The Bucks better capitalize on his brilliance before it’s too late.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been playing at an MVP-level for the Bucks all season long; after his dominance against the Kings on Tuesday night, he is now averaging 31.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per contest this season — numbers that should put him in contention for an MVP award.
Alas, the Bucks have not played good enough basketball as a team for Antetokounmpo to warrant such consideration in this regard. If anything, Antetokounmpo will be overshadowed by the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Nikola Jokic since their respective teams are actually performing better than the Bucks have been.

A Philadelphia Eagles fan who spewed crude insults at a woman rooting for the visiting Green Bay Packers during Sunday’s wild-card playoff game lost his job this week at a New Jersey company that specializes in D.E.I. work because of his conduct, which was caught on a viral video.
The fan, whose name was not released by his former employer, BCT Partners, was also barred from future events at Lincoln Financial Field, the home stadium of the Eagles, a person briefed on the matter told The New York Times.
In the video, which was shared online early Monday by the woman’s fiancé and viewed more than 31 million times on X, the fan repeatedly called her a vulgar name and cursed at her during the Eagles’ opening-round 22-10 victory in the playoffs. The man was sitting in the upper deck, one row behind the couple, who were both wearing Packers jerseys and live outside Philadelphia.
The woman’s fiancé, Alexander Basara, a podcaster who focuses on the Packers, asked internet sleuths to help him to identify the man.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Lincoln Financial Field have issued a lifetime ban for a male fan whose foul outburst at their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers was caught on video, PEOPLE can confirm.
Footage of the incident first hit the internet after the Eagles defeated the Packers 22-10 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Alexander Basara, a Green Bay Packers content creator, posted footage of the male Eagles fan heckling Basara’s fiancée, who was cheering for the Packers and wearing the road team’s merchandise.
“What it’s like going to Philly just trying to root for your team,” Basara wrote in his post accompanying the video on X. “Unprovoked, uncalled for. Packers twitter, help me out and find this guy…. this is not okay. I hate that my fiancé had this happen simply cheering for her team.”
Basara’s video clearly shows the man leaning into the row in front of him to taunt Basara’s fiancée about a Packers play and calling her derogatory names as the game went on.
Basara attempts to step in, telling the man to stop calling his fiancée names, as the Eagles fan continues to insult her, saying, “She’s an ugly, dumb c—.”
A day later, NFL reporter Derrick Gunn shared on X that the Eagles will bar the man from Lincoln Financial Field. “The guy will be banned from future Eagles games,” Gunn posted on Monday, Jan. 13, adding that the Eagles are planning to send Basara’s fiancée some Packers gear “as an apology.”
Many uses praised Basara for how he handled the incident. “Respect to you, Alexander. If that were my wife, I’d probably be leaving in handcuffs,” one account wrote in reply to the video.
“Switching seats with her might’ve been a smart move too, but hats off to you for keeping your cool under the circumstances.”
Others questioned why Basara was “allowing” the man to behave that way. In response to one comment, Basara explained that the man was attending the game with two other men, and Basara worried they would get to aggressive. “Plus all eagles fans would see is me getting physical with an old man and jump me,” Basara said.
Caldwell apologized on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in a statement shared with PEOPLE, saying, “While attending an NFL game last Sunday to support my beloved Philadelphia Eagles, an incident occurred that I deeply regret. What began as banter with two Packers fans sitting near me escalated to something more serious, and I said things that were unacceptable. In the heat of the moment, I chose unforgiving words to address one of the fans, Ms. Ally Keller.”
Caldwell added he wants to “sincerely apologize” to Keller and claimed that the video “does not reflect the full context of what transpired.”

According to a report from Jessica Lynch of Billboard, Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake are in the stages of opening up another T-Squared Social sports bar location over in St. Andrews, Scotland.
Woods and Timberlake recently opened up a T-Squared Social bar in New York City, featuring entertainment and recreational activities including indoor golf simulators. Here’s what Lynch’s report stated:
“Following the success of their New York City flagship, Timberlake and Woods’ latest upscale sports bar project will feature state-of-the-art sports simulators, duckpin bowling and darts while also preserving two original cinema screens – a nod to the venue’s rich history.
Fife Council has given the project the green light, praising its potential to revitalize the area. The renovation is expected to create 40 to 45 new jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy. According to the documents, the plans will allow locals to “experience a broader range of cinema, dining and entertainment” and will be “crucial in helping to secure a cinema offering going forward.”
