Born September 18, 1961, James Gandolfini was best known as the affable Tony Soprano, the Mafia crime boss, and the family patriarch in HBO’s The Sopranos.

Sometimes sensitive, other times sociopathic, Gandolfini’s landmark performance of the flawed gangster earned him numerous awards and international acclaim.

Speaking of the lovable but brutal Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini told Vogue: “I am playing an Italian lunatic from New Jersey, and that’s basically what I am.”

After a hugely successful six-season run, the series ended in 2007, leaving fans wondering if the blacked-out screen in the end meant the antihero is alive, or dead.

    Tragedy in Rome

But, along with the legendary actor, the elder Soprano died on June 19, 2013, after a heart attack claimed the life of the beloved 51-year-old star.

The Jersey-born man was travelling with his family in Italy and was in the hotel with his then 13-year-old son Michael when he had a heart attack and died.

Gandolfini left behind his wife Deborah Lin, who he married in 2008, daughter Liliane (born 2012), and Michael, who he shares with first wife, Marcy Wudarski.

Almost 10 years later, Michael landed the biggest role of his life, playing the role of a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark.

In September 2021, Michael spoke with the New York Times about capturing the complexity of the character his father so effortlessly played.

“I was always like, ‘I want to make my dad proud. I want to make my dad proud.’” The then 22-year-old actor continued, “I truly wasn’t aware of the legacy of him…My dad was just my dad.”

Though it’s cliché, Michael is his dad. The man inherited many of his father’s features and characteristics, like the sleepy yet inviting eyes, a menacing smirk and the soft voice mixed with the colorful language.

“The pressure is real,” he said of playing the mafia don as a youngster. “Not only was it the feeling of my dad – it was like, Tony Soprano is a f***ing hard character.”

    ‘Biggest flirt’

Before Gandolfini had three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe resting on his mantel, he was a regular Italian American kid growing up with his working-class family in a modest Westwood, New Jersey home.

His father served as the building maintenance chief at a Catholic school, and his mother worked as a lunch lady in a high school. He was a “happy, cute little boy,” as described by childhood chum Pam Donlan, who would later become a highly respected actor in Hollywood.

In 1979, the young man, who stood just over 6 ft., was a senior at Park Ridge High School in New Jersey, where he was one of the popular kids.

Excelling in both academics and extra-curricular activities, the Get Shorty star developed his skills as an actor while in high school, where he studied theatre.

It was in these years the Where the Wild Things Are star met John Travolta, whose father owned a store the senior Gandolfini patronized.

“My father sold tires to his father,” Travolta said after Gandolfini died. “I was his inspiration to get into the business…He would see pictures of me on the wall from movies and he decided that he wanted to be an actor.”

Before heading off to Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts, Gandolfini first celebrated his last year at high school with classmates voting him “best looking” and – not surprisingly – “biggest flirt.”

On a Facebook post shared by the Park Ridge community, an old photo of the young star along with a woman, Donna Lange, shows the two as “class flirts.”

“I [love] this picture of Jimmy and Donna…I always remember him like this…happy kid with that killer smile,” writes one old friend. “It’s a great picture of Jim and Donna,” shares another.

Meanwhile, Duff Lambros remembers his childhood friend as having “a “quiet confidence,” and “a cool dignity.” He said, “Girls loved him. Guys loved him.”

The friend adds, “When he cracked that smile, it wasn’t just teeth, he smiled with his eyes. It felt like the sun was shining.”

Travolta – who shared the screen with Gandfolfini in several films – remembers his long-time family friend as a giant not only as an actor, but also in his personal life. “He was a people person first and then everything else,” Travolta said. “He was this beautiful man and I love him very much.”

Despite Tony Soprano’s imposing presence, Gandolfini exhibited remarkable humility and dedication. He humorously characterized himself as a “260-pound Woody Allen,” emphasizing his unassuming nature despite the larger-than-life character he portrayed on screen.

Patrick Mahomes sent his mom, Randi, a special birthday message following the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Houston Texans.

It was a day of wins for the Mahomes family, both on and off the field.

Off the field, Randi Mahomes, his mother, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share some of her best birthday photos.

“Go wish this amazing babe a Happy Birthday! She makes the world a better place and life so much fun ❤️,” her friend on X wrote.

In the pictures, Randi is seen sporting what appears to be a sleeveless white top as she holds up a peace sign.

Patrick Mahomes didn’t hold back when it came to showing his appreciation for his mom.

During the post-game press conference, the quarterback took a moment to wish her a happy birthday while reflecting on her impact on his life. “She’s been a huge, instrumental part of my entire life, taking me to those baseball games,” Mahomes shared.

Her birthday comes on the heels of the birth of Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ daughter, Golden Raye.

Legendary Cleveland Browns offensive lineman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas called out Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during Saturday’s Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans.

Clay Martin and his NFL referee crew faced immense criticism for several questionable calls that benefited Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs. This included two bizarre “Roughing the Passer” penalties drawn by Mahomes, and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman couldn’t hold back his frustration with one of the calls:

Fed up with the calls that helped Kansas City, Thomas took to X/Twitter and thanked Mahomes for “exploiting the sham” quarterback rules, noting that it could force the NFL to make significant changes:

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and several players voiced their frustrations with the officials after the game. Per ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, Will Anderson Jr. bluntly stated, “We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game.”

Speaking on “NFL Gameday”, NFL officiating rules analyst and former league referee Walt Anderson stated that the two “Roughing the Passer’ penalties against Houston were correct, based on the rules.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ road to the Super Bowl continues!

Gracie Hunt took PEOPLE into the action of the Chiefs’ victorious game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, Jan. 18, snapping exclusive, behind-the-scenes photos throughout Arrowhead Stadium.

From her pre-kickoff rituals to the post-game celebrations, Gracie — who is the daughter of Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt and his wife Tavia — explained the significance behind each image, telling PEOPLE exclusively about “the special moments” featured in every shot.

Gracie, 25, snapped pics in the famed Arrowhead tunnels, on the sidelines of the field, inside the Signature Suite Lounge (even sharing the sweet treat beloved by tight end Travis Kelce) and at the specific spot where her family welcomes the team after every game.

Throughout the day, Gracie was joined by her siblings, sister Ava and brother Knobel, in addition to her parents and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s wife Tammy. (Plus, a surprise celebrity guest — and a “new member of Chiefs Kingdom” — made an appearance!)

The Chiefs’ triumph over the Texans was a much-needed win for the team in pursuit of clinching their third-consecutive Super Bowl title, which would make them the first team to “three-peat” in NFL history. “I think everyone’s on the edge of our seats,” Gracie told PEOPLE ahead of the playoffs.

“It has been the most magical, surreal season in a lot of ways,” she added, calling out the Chiefs’ 15-2 record heading into the AFC divisional playoff game, which earned them a first-round bye and well-deserved rest as they forge ahead on their 2025 NFL Championship-winning quest.

Now, scroll on for a rare look inside Gracie’s game-day experience, which will transport you inside the stadium and have you feeling the winning energy alongside the Chiefs!

As a fashion influencer who recently launched her own collection with Erin Andrews’ Wear line, Gracie’s game-day looks never disappoint.

“My game-day outfit was inspired by my favorite styling approach, both on and off the field, combining sporty and chic elements,” she tells PEOPLE.

Since Kansas City is known to get brutally cold winters, Gracie knows how to dress appropriately (yet stylishly, too!). “The Ramy Brook coat not only kept me warm and insulated against the chilly Kansas City weather but also added an effortlessly polished touch,” she explains.

Gracie “celebrated the iconic Chiefs red” with “bold” Dolce & Gabbana pants, along with a top and shoes to “tie the look together with team spirit.” In another clever (and chic) nod the game, she topped off her look with a playful accessory.

“The Monse football bag was the perfect statement piece, proving that football and fashion can go hand in hand… and that women can love the game just as much as men,” she says.

  • 3 MINUTE AGO : Satou Sabally Just OFFICIALLY SIGNED For Indiana Fever! THIS IS HUGE!

3 MINUTE AGO : Satou Sabally Just OFFICIALLY SIGNED For Indiana Fever! THIS IS HUGE!

Just three minutes ago, Satou Sabally officially signed with the Indiana Fever, marking a pivotal moment in women’s basketball. This news comes as the sport finds itself at a crossroads, largely influenced by a 19-year-old USC phenomenon, Juju Watkins.

You’ve likely heard the buzz surrounding Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. The media has often positioned Reese as the face of the WNBA, but upon closer examination, her role seems more akin to a supporting act than the leading star.

Meanwhile, veteran players like Diana Taurasi have downplayed the significance of new talents like Clark, creating tension in the league. Enter Juju Watkins, who is changing the narrative with a fresh perspective and undeniable influence.

Over the past year, Caitlin Clark has electrified the basketball world. She’s filled arenas, shattered TV viewership records, and generated the kind of buzz the WNBA has sought for decades.

However, instead of celebrating the influx of attention she’s brought to the sport, some veterans, including Taurasi, have questioned her readiness for the WNBA. Similarly, Angel Reese has been entangled in social media controversies, appearing to prioritize personal feuds over advancing the sport.

Juju Watkins has emerged as a beacon of progress, demonstrating both on-court excellence and off-court wisdom. When asked about the growing attention around women’s basketball, Watkins offered a simple yet profound response: *“The fact that people are watching is enough in itself.”* This level of maturity and business acumen highlights a mindset some veterans seem to have overlooked.

Watkins recognizes the value of attention in today’s digital world. She understands that even negative publicity drives engagement, which translates to growth. While some veterans resisted the influx of new fans brought in by players like Clark, Watkins has embraced them, focusing on inclusivity and expansion rather than gatekeeping.

The biggest stars in sports history—Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and others—knew that sparking conversation, even if polarizing, was essential for building their legacies. Watkins mirrors this approach, thinking beyond basketball and embracing the broader business implications of her platform. She’s not just an athlete; she’s a visionary.

Unlike others who might push back against critics, Watkins welcomes all forms of attention. Every tweet, mention, or debate keeps women’s basketball in the spotlight, and she recognizes the power of this ongoing conversation in the digital age.

The WNBA stands at a critical juncture. With players like Caitlin Clark bringing unprecedented attention to the league and visionaries like Juju Watkins redefining what it means to be a modern athlete, the future looks brighter than ever. Sabally’s move to the Indiana Fever is just one piece of a larger puzzle that signals the dawning of a new era in women’s basketball—one where young stars and seasoned veterans must work together to elevate the game to new heights.

Chicago Sky: Angel Reese Interview (4/28/24) - YouTube

Ever since these two 22-year-old women faced off in that unforgettable matchup, their stories have become undeniably intertwined.

While both claim on camera that there are no hard feelings between them, their fierce competitiveness often tells a different story whenever they cross paths on the court.

Angel Reese, in particular, has been increasingly vocal about taking jabs at Clark in recent months.

This is especially evident in her social media posts, where her comments leave little to the imagination.

Angel Reese's deleted X post from May 23.

Back in May, Reese posted a tweet on X that read, “and that’s on getting a WIN in a packed area, not just because of one player on our charter flight. #SKYTOWN.”

The post was widely interpreted as a direct jab at Caitlin Clark, especially since, at the time, many were attributing the WNBA’s new charter flight program to Clark’s influence, with the belief that her popularity was a driving force behind the change.

Ultimately, Reese deleted the post, which seemed to hint at her desire for recognition of her own accomplishments. The deletion suggests she may have had second thoughts about airing her frustrations so publicly.

Angel Reese Appears To Delete Her Instagram Account After Receiving Major Backlash For Her Latest Antics On Social Media

Angel Reese has made a drastic move on social media following the backlash suffered after her spicy New Year’s social media post.

Reese, who is heading into her second year in the WNBA after an interesting rookie campaign, is also set to participate in the new Unrivaled League in Miami later this month.

She has kept pretty busy during the offseason, generating lots of buzz on various online platforms, and caused a major stir after showing nearly everything off in a sultry dress on New Year’s Eve in a series of Instagram posts.

Reese also posted videos of herself in that same dress to TikTok.

As of Thursday, however, the Sky standout was nowhere to be found on IG, having apparently taken her account down.

It’s likely due to all of the criticism she’s received since showing up in the posts, having previously complained about being overly sexualized.

Angel Reese Has Her “Mind On Billions”

Angel Reese proved to be a rebounding machine as a rookie and is looking to close the gap on Caitlin Clark in Year 2 after being ousted by the Indiana Fever star in the race for the Rookie of the Year Award.

She has also set some long-term goals for herself, including becoming a billionaire, which she disclosed by showing her vision board.

“I’m not a billionaire yet but so were still working on that, but my mind is on billions so I’m still on that,” she said in a video.

Reese noted that she became a millionaire last year.

“I was an All-Star, I did everything that people said I couldn’t do and I made it happen — shocked everyone,” she added.

The former LSU forward is also looking to acquire her own home in the next few months.

Before raving about the positive impact the 14-time Grammy winner has had on the Kansas City-based team, 25-year-old Hunt — who’s the daughter of Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavia Hunt — praised how “absolutely incredible” Swift is as a person, first and foremost.

“The whole world knows,” Hunt says, adding, “And it’s been such a special time to have her be a part of Chiefs Kingdom. She is just as beautiful and wonderful as you’d ever imagine her to be, so smart and intelligent.”

When thinking about the reality of having the global superstar “cheer on the Chiefs,” the former 2021 Miss Kansas USA was at a near loss for words. “Sometimes it feels a little bit surreal because you and I grew up watching her and falling in love with her music, and so did so much of the world.”

Swift and Kelce first sparked dating rumors in September 2023 after the singer attended a handful of the tight end’s games. The couple confirmed their romance in October 2023 when they stepped out holding hands at a Saturday Night Live afterparty.

In the year that followed, Kelce has spoken about Swift in interviews — and Swift seemingly sings about Kelce on her album The Tortured Poets Department (she even invited him on stage to perform with her during her record-breaking Eras Tour!).

All the while, Swift has continued to cheer on Kelce at his games. She celebrated his 2023 Super Bowl win with a kiss on the field (and at the Chiefs afterparty) to close out last year’s victorious season, and has been a suite staple throughout the 2024 season, too.

Since Swift first showed support for the Chiefs, she’s dramatically influenced the team’s demographic, in addition to the NFL’s audience as a whole. Hunt approximates that the singer “has grown” the fanbase of her family’s franchise “between 30 and 40 percent from her attendance.”

“It’s just been so special to have her be a part of Chiefs Kingdom,” Hunt emphasizes.

Not only has Swift demonstrated team spirit at games but she’s slayed game day style as well — which in Hunt’s opinion, it’s top tier. “If there’s anyone’s game day looks, who I’m definitely dialed into, it’s Taylor’s,” she reveals.

“I love seeing Brittany [Mahomes]’s and all the other wives. My mom always crushes it too,” she continues. “But then when Taylor walks in, we’re all like, ‘What was the fit?’” Of Swift, Hunt adds, “She crushes it, and I absolutely love seeing her game day style.”

Another aspect of Swift that Hunt is sure to point out is her “down to earth” character. “She is so kind and kind to everyone.”

The charismatic personality Hunt describes of the pop star has been on full display for everyone to see, whether they’ve met the singer or not. Just look at the star-studded suite that often gets screen time during games, featuring Swift smiling and cheering alongside fellow Chiefs WAGs.

In November, Chariah Gordon — who is the fiancée of Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr., famously known for making the Super Bowl-winning touchdown last year — told PEOPLE exclusively how Swift lets her guard down at games.

“That’s just who she is… She’s fun, she’s loving, she’s sweet,” Gordon says of the “So High School” singer. “We have a good time and we are there to support our men. She’s just one of the sweetest people ever… that’s just that.”

Now, Hunt tells PEOPLE of Swift: “No matter who you are or what circle you fall in… that just is who Taylor is.”

Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleader Stefanie Hill shared on TikTok her early memories of watching Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance unfold

Stefanie Hill may not be cheer captain, but she surely isn’t on the bleachers!

The former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader who had been on the Super Bowl-defending squad for six seasons has experienced it all, from making four NFL Championship appearances with the team to watching Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s love story unfold in real-time.

In a video shared to TikTok, Hill — whose cheer career with the Chiefs culminated with a Super Bowl victory in February 2024 — gave viewers a glimpse inside the power couple’s relationship from her perspective at games, including the sweet tradition Swift follows in support of Kelce.

Hill reminisced about the first Chiefs game Swift went to on Sept. 24 at the time romance rumors started to swirl with the football player at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season.

“The very first game she ever attended, I almost pooped myself when I was in that corner,” she jokingly recalled in the TikTok posted in September 2024. At the time, she thought, “I don’t know how to do my job right now because I have to watch the game, lead the chants and cheers and dances.”

But with one of the biggest superstars on the planet in the crowd watching the field, Hill admitted her concentration was thrown off. She recalled thinking, “I physically can not focus because I’m like, ‘That is Taylor Swift!’”

To make matters even more stressful for the Chiefs cheerleader, she says the squad decided to use one of the routines she came up with for the games. “We performed my choreography in the end zone. I looked up and no joke, she was on the screen and she was clapping,” Hill says of Swift.

“And I was like, ‘She just watched our team dance and is now applauding and she liked my choreography,’” she continues to recall in disbelief. “If she didn’t like it, she wouldn’t have clapped. So that was pretty cool.”

Then, Hill revealed what Swift would do to support Kelce after games. Being that the Chiefs Cheerleader locker rooms were right next to the athlete locker rooms, she had a clear view of player interactions.

“All those pictures of her game day outfits walking down red tunnels in Arrowhead [Stadium] are right next to the players’ locker rooms, which is right next door to the Chiefs Cheer locker room,” Hill explains in the TikTok. “There were so many close encounters,” she says of herself and Swift.

“At the end of the game, she would always meet Travis by the locker room,” the former cheerleader shares.

Toward the end of the TikTok, Hill admitted that she and the cheer squad went into total fangirl mode themselves. “So there was one game that we were like, ‘We have just got to wait here and I’m sure we are gonna see her walk by and if we all stand by the door.’”

Hill said they “huddled” together with the hopes Swift would “take a picture” with them. “We were waiting for like a really long time. I’m not even a Swiftie and I was like crawled down in the front waiting to take my picture with her,” she says with a laugh.

In conclusion, Hill was Team Swift after her unique experiences of getting an up-close perspective of the pop star. “Overall, I was a huge fan of having her a part of Chiefs Kingdom.”

At the end of the 2023-2024 season, Hill posted another video to TikTok that revealed the “crazy tradition” the Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders take part in every time they make a Super Bowl appearance.

“We have this crazy tradition where we get tattoos every time we go to a Super Bowl. Last year, we went to Definitive Tattoo Gallery and we absolutely loved it, so we’re back!” the cheerleader says in the clip filmed in March 2024.

“Once I got inside, all my teammates were already there. This was my fourth Super Bowl appearance, so that means tattoo number four today,” she revealed, ultimately getting a Roman numeral to represent the Super Bowl year and an arrowhead in tribute to the Kansas City Chiefs stadium.

“It is not a requirement to get a tattoo and there is absolutely no pressure,” Hill made clear. “However, I would say the majority of our team got tatted today. Even our athletic trainer, Michaela, joined us and got a cute Vegas-themed tattoo with 34 to represent the members of our team!”
