Justin Timberlake is no stranger to memorable moments, but even he admits that convincing Beyoncé to join him in a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch back in 2008 was no easy feat.

The pop superstar, now 43, recently described the lengths he went to in order to persuade the legendary singer to step into comedy alongside him for what would become an iconic skit.

Timberlake, hosting the long-running comedy show at the time, recounted the story in the NBC documentary Ladies & Gentleman… 50 Years of SNL Music.

The former NSYNC member explained how a pitch from cast members Andy Samberg and Bobby Moynihan landed them all in full leotards and high heels to perform as background dancers who never made the cut for Beyoncé’s performances.

“(Andy) said Bobby Moynihan has this great idea for a sketch about you, me, and him being Beyoncé’s background dancers that never made the cut,” Timberlake said, detailing the behind-the-scenes conversation. “I was like, ‘full leotard?’ And he’s like, ‘yeah.’ I was like, ‘This is too funny. We have to do this.’”

That initial enthusiasm quickly hit a snag when they approached Beyoncé, also 43 and in the midst of her own meteoric solo career post-Destiny’s Child. Timberlake admitted she didn’t exactly jump on board.

“She was very polite about it, but she was very hesitant. And when I say hesitant, I mean like, she was not having it,” he shared.

Thinking outside the box, Timberlake decided to take a dramatic approach to win her over.

“I put the leotard and the heels and the hose on and everything, and put a robe on,” he recalled. “I walked and knocked on her door, I threw the robe down and put my hands on my hips, and she was like, ‘No you didn’t!’”

Thankfully, his bold move paid off.

Beyoncé agreed to participate, and the resulting sketch became one of the most talked-about moments of that season of SNL, with both stars embracing the comedic absurdity.

The pop star took home her very first Grammy trophy at the 2024 Grammy Awards Sunday (Feb. 4) in Los Angeles.

The singer won the Grammy award for Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Flowers,” which she accepted from presenter Mariah Carey.

During her acceptance speech, Cyrus joked that “this MC is gonna stand by this MC for this because this is just too iconic.”

Cyrus revealed she initially thought she was going to miss the moment after being stuck in traffic before the Grammys due to the rain, but was happy she got seated in her “lucky number three seat” in the audience.

The pop star, who stunned in an all-gold Maison Margiela look on the red carpet, also shared an emotional story about a little boy who was given a butterfly net and was so excited to try to catch a butterfly.

“He just went outside, out in the sun, and started swinging and swinging. But, with no luck, he sat down on the ground [and] he finally let go and he surrendered. And he was OK that he wasn’t going to capture this beautiful butterfly. And right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose … This song ‘Flowers’ is my butterfly,” she shared.

Last year was a big year for Cyrus’ career, and her Grammy win is testament to that. In 2023 the pop star released her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, which peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and spawned smash lead single “Flowers.”

Released in January 2022, the song received critical acclaim and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the singer’s second single to hit No. 1 on the chart since 2013’s “Wrecking Ball” 10 years prior.

“Flowers” also became the longest-running No. 1 song in the history of the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and broke a number of streaming records.

Cyrus is nominated for six different awards tonight, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Endless Summer Vacation; Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Flowers”; and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her song “Thousand Miles” featuring Brandi Carlile.

However, this isn’t the first year Cyrus was nominated for a Grammy.

She was first nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Bangerz in 2015.

She was also technically nominated for Album of the Year as a featured artist and songwriter on Lil Nas X’s Montero in 2022.

Southside Johnny, known as the Grandfather of the New Jersey Sound, announced he is retiring from touring after five decades due to ‘ongoing health issues.’

Last week, the 76-year-old beloved rock singer, who is the leader and co-founder of the New Jersey-based band Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, revealed that he would no longer be performing live.

The news was shared in a statement released on his band’s website and social media accounts.

‘After a hugely successful 50-year run with his band Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, touring non-stop throughout the U.S and overseas, Southside Johnny Lyon has made the decision to retire from touring in order to manage ongoing health issues,’ the group told fans.

The abrupt retirement prompted the cancellations of their upcoming shows, including the annual New Year’s Eve performance at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey.

The Count Basie Center released their own statement, in which they noted that all ‘tickets will be refunded via original points of purchase.’

Social media users were quick to react to the news as they shared their well wishes and best memories of the band underneath the post.

‘Thank you for all the great music and incredible live performances Southside! Health and happiness to ya!’ one commented. ‘Raising a glass to the salt of the earth.’

A second wrote: ‘am devastated. My favorite band of all time! Best live shows I’ve ever attended. God Bless you and the band!’

Southside Johnny’s step back from his career comes ten months after he opened up about a health scare on stage at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, which was later attributed to dehydration.

During the show, he left early, knocking a microphone to the ground on his way off the stage, and was taken to the hospital.

‘I’m not feeling so good,’ the music legend admitted to the crowd as he told them he was ‘doing the best’ he could.

LeBron James and Luka Doncic will be together in Los Angeles for the long haul, barring any significant surprises.

Just after midnight on Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers shocked the NBA world by acquiring superstar Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks. The three-team trade, also involving the Utah Jazz, saw LA send perennial All-Star Anthony Davis to Dallas as part of the deal.

Davis and James were among basketball’s top duos together and led the Lakers to the NBA championship in 2020. Some folks are naturally wondering if James might be unhappy with the trade, given the fact he’s essentially the unofficial GM of the Lakers.

But according to veteran NBA insider Chris B. Haynes, LeBron James intends to remain” with the Lakers past the trade deadline. The 40-year-old signed a two-year contract extension worth $104 million last summer.

Haynes added that the Purple and Gold were “appreciative of the professionalism” that James and his agent, Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul, showed during the process of the Doncic trade.

Given Doncic’s age (26 on Feb. 28) and status as a top-five player in the league, this just might be the most stunning and unexpected NBA trade of all time. Not to mention that Doncic led the Mavericks to a surprise NBA Finals appearance just last year.

LeBron James Is Keeping His Hands Clean

As mentioned above, this is nothing new for LeBron James. Many fingers have been pointed over the years; still, no one has offered any proof.

The Slovenian guard is set to leave the Dallas Mavericks in shocking fashion, with the team opting to part ways ahead of the February 6 trade deadline. Doncic departs alongside Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Lakers are sending Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick the other way.

The Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal. They will receive Jalen Hood-Schifino plus two second-round picks for this year.

Luka is said to have been “stunned” by the trade, which will have him playing elsewhere for the first time since the Atlanta Hawks drafted him and traded him to Dallas in 2018.

Life will be very different for Luka as a Laker, yet there are bigger implications than meet the eye. Given the development, the guard will no longer be eligible for a super-max extension, having previously been in line for a five-year deal that would have paid him $345 million.

“There are major financial implications for Luka Doncic with this trade. He was in line to receive a five-year $345 million contract this summer,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks pointed out in a tweet. “Doncic is no longer super max eligible.”

While the trade looks like a terrible one for the Mavs, they’re reported to have had concerns over the player’s conditioning issues and having to commit to him long-term.

As part of his plea deal, the What Goes Around… Comes Around vocalist urged drivers not to get behind the wheel of a car after even a single alcoholic drink, shortly after pleading guilty.

‘I try to hold myself to a very high standard, for myself, and this was not that,’ Timberlake told the news media and other onlookers after his hearing at the Sag Harbor Village Court.

An insider said James had ‘grown frustrated’ with Anthony Davis

While most were sleeping, the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a stunning blockbuster that led to Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis swapping teams.

The deal is perhaps one of the most star-studded ever, as it’s the first time in NBA history two reigning All-NBA players were traded midseason.

There are lots of questions that need to be answered, primarily on the Dallas side of things, as it’s shocking a team would trade a 25-year-old MVP candidate with global starpower fresh off an NBA Finals appearance.

However, one report from CBS Sports said LeBron James “had grown frustrated” with Davis, who is averaging over 25 points and a dozen rebounds while playing elite defense.

James’ Lakers defeated the Knicks shortly before the trade broke, but James has not spoken to reporters about the move yet (Davis was inactive), but James did see the report on X, and broke his silence matter of factly.

“You a [f—ing] lie,” James wrote on X, adding Pinocchio and clown emojis.

James is said to have found out about the trade shortly before the news broke on X while he was out to dinner with his family following L.A.’s victory. It’s being reported that the Mavs only reached out to the Lakers, and would only acquire Davis if it meant moving Dončić. Other than the organizations facilitating the trade, it’s said that no one else knew what was going on behind the scenes.

The Lakers received Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks took on Davis, Max Christie and Los Angeles’ 2029 first-round pick. To settle it all out, the Utah Jazz acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

The Slovenian led the NBA with 33.4 points per game last season and won’t turn 26 until later this month. In his career, he averages 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists, putting himself in the MVP conversation every year of his young career.
