Billy Ray Cyrus extends out olive branch to daughter Miley after Grammy win amid ‘feud’

Miley Cyrus’ father Billy Ray has broken his silence after her latest Grammy win, with the daughter and father thought to have been estranged in recent years.

Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus, 32, basked in the glow of familial support following her latest triumph at the Grammy Awards, where she snagged the Best Country Duo/Group Performance alongside Beyoncé for their collaboration on II Most Wanted from Beyoncé’s hit album Cowboy Carter.

This accolade adds to Miley’s growing collection, having previously secured two Grammys for her single Flowers.

Amidst the celebrations, her father Billy Ray Cyrus, 63, with whom she reportedly had a strained relationship, took to social media to express his elation.

On Instagram, he posted a heartfelt message: “Congratulations [Miley] and [Beyoncé] on their well-deserved Grammy wins. Couldn’t be prouder.”

He tagged his daughter, who acknowledged the gesture by liking the post and further amplified his joy by sharing it on his Instagram Story.

It’s rumored that Miley Cyrus has been distant from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, for some time now.

This speculation was fueled when she notably omitted him from her thank-you speech at last year’s Grammy Awards, despite expressing gratitude towards her mother and one of her sisters.

During the ceremony, she said: “I want to thank everyone that’s standing on this stage right now Tom, Tyler, Michael and Greg. Our teams, my team, Crush, Columbia, my mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays cause look how good I look. Anyone else? […] All the people that we love. Thank you all so much.

“I don’t think I forgot anyone. But I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!”

However, in a later appearance on Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, Miley spoke highly of her father.

She joked about inheriting narcissism from him but also acknowledged his positive influence, saying: “He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to like the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous.

“I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me.”

She further explained: “He’s almost like given me this map. And there’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both.”

More recently, Billy Ray’s performance at President Trump’s inauguration drew attention to his relationships with his children amidst rumors of estrangement.

The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer has expressed a desire for “healing” within his family.

In a revealing Instagram post, Trace Cyrus, aged 35 and son of Billy Ray Cyrus, admitted he “barely recognizes” his father following his performance.

In contrast, Braison Cyrus, Billy Ray’s younger son, shared a more positive update at 30 years old regarding his dad’s condition, stating: “I’ve spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have. After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I’m grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make [a new] record.”

Billy Ray Cyrus himself has recently spoken out about the family tensions, reportedly posting: “Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children … sons and daughters…and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. ‘The past does not equal the future.’ Amen.”

With the recent emergence of clutch stats, the NBA began giving out a Clutch Player of the Year award three years ago.

The NBA defines clutch time as the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points.

With Friday’s win over the Pelicans, the Celtics improved to 14-9 in clutch situations, giving them the fourth-best clutch win percentage in the league.

Jayson Tatum, who sealed the win with a buzzer-beater with 0.2 seconds remaining, appears to be making a case as a contender for the relatively new award.

According to NBC Sports Boston Celtics statistician Dick Lipe, Tatum’s shot tied him with Miami’s Tyler Herro for the most made field goals (3) in the last five seconds of a game when going for a lead or tie. Tatum is 3-for-6 in such situations, while Herro is 3-for-8.

Tatum has the sixth-most clutch points (79) this season. He’s second in the league in clutch assists (20), and fifth in clutch rebounds (25). He’s shooting 46 percent in clutch time. His three-point shot (5-for-25) hasn’t been falling in those situations, but he is second in the league in clutch paint points (40).

As of Saturday, Tatum is tied for the fourth-best odds (+1200) to win the award, via DraftKings Sportsbook.

Denver’s Nikola Jokic is the betting favorite (-115) while Trae Young is second (+900). Tyrese Maxey (+1000) and De’Aaron Fox (+1200), who won the inaugural award in 2023, are both around Tatum. Young and Maxey notably led their teams to clutch wins over the Celtics at TD Garden this season.

Jokic is shooting 56 percent from the field during clutch time, including 54.5 percent from 3-point range. He’s tied for the league lead in clutch rebounds (31) and third in clutch assists (18). He leads the league in triple-doubles in clutch games (10). He’s also played fewer clutch minutes (85.8) than Tatum so far (101.4).

Maxey leads the league with 98 clutch points, but he has just seven clutch assists against four clutch turnovers. Young leads the league in clutch assists (26), but is shooting 36.7 percent from the field in clutch time. Fox is fourth in clutch points (85) and tied for fourth in clutch steals (5), but his team has a losing record (11-14) in the clutch.

Cleveland (15-5) has the league’s highest winning percentages in clutch situations, and Darius Garland has the highest field-goal percentage (60.6) of the top-eight favorites for the award. His sample size is smaller, though, with 58.3 clutch minutes which puts him outside of the top 50 in the league in that category. Time will tell if he can keep up his percentages over the rest of the season.

Tatum was already in the hunt before Friday’s buzzer-beater, and there’s a chance it could end up boosting his odds. Jokic remains the favorite, Garland could be a dark horse, and Fox appears to have a shot at winning his second award.

Ultimately, the voters will decide. The award, which honors the player who is the best in a given season at coming through for his teammates in the clutch, will be voted upon by a media panel based on nominations from NBA head coaches.

  • Jayson Tatum is BOTH SHINING AND AWESOME as Celtics ‘WASH AWAY’ the Bulls!

Jayson Tatum is BOTH SHINING AND AWESOME as Celtics ‘WASH AWAY’ the Bulls!

Jayson Tatum is BOTH SHINING AND AWESOME as Celtics ‘WASH AWAY’ the Bulls!

A chill game, a chill fit: Tatum’s pregame look was as lowkey as the Celtics’ final matchup against the Bulls.

The Celtics hosted the Bulls Wednesday night for the final game of the series, which offered the perfect backdrop for this Jayson Tatum appreciation post.

Last time the Celtics met the Bulls, then in Chicago, it was less than a week before the holidays, and Tatum wore what looked like a Christmas sweater with a patchwork of colors, shapes, and vibes.

Other notable moments from that meeting: Tatum produced 43 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, and bestowed upon fans that incredible dunk.

Now, more than a month later, Tatum walked the tunnel with a similar style as last time — a bright medley of playful figures on an inspired look that combined the chill of streetwear with the tradition of varsity aesthetics.

While the game itself was not the most exciting win for the Celtics — beating the Bulls 100-122 — Tatum’s pregame tunnel walk was a moment worth pausing for.

Strolling down the “JetBlue runway,” viewers and scrollers spotted a jovial Tatum, full of laughter, holding a commemorative plush snake for Lunar New Year. Tatum rocked one of his go-to designers, Diet Starts Monday, last worn at the Garden after Thanksgiving in a more comfy casual style.

This jacket, with its woolen body and faux leather sleeves, drew the eye into its embroidery and patches made of chenille. Not sure about you, but the bright pink middle finger positioned between Tatum’s heart and gut definitely catches attention.

It is possible that his outfit choices don’t mean much and simply reflect the completion of a basic activity of daily living — he just got dressed. Yet it is possible to view the outfit as a culmination of the fashion choices that have been covered here since November:

    He wore a designer favorite.
He had the classic tan pants.
    He had on Nikes.
    He leaned into color blocking.
He did the varsity athletic look, which has been in his rotation.

Either way, Tatum knows style and has been owning the runway for a while now, only recently held up as a style standard bearer, modeling for Coach, attending runway LVMH events, playing the role of brand ambassador, and posing for a Vogue winter feature.

“Every year, my style evolves a little bit, but it’s always a reflection of my personality and taste,” Tatum told Esquire last spring.

As a self-proclaimed fashionista who regularly stunts on Instagram with stylized images and iconic photo dumps, Tatum likes to look good and play with fine details like patches, stitching, fabric, color, pattern, and trends that make his outfits newsworthy, noteworthy, and worthy of an appreciation post like this one with no plot, just vibes.

Luka Dončić & De’Aaron Fox TRADE CAUSES A STORM – Celtics BET IT ALL ON Tatum & Brown! 🔥🏀😱

Sacramento and Dallas traded their stars. The Celtics are paying a substantial cost to keep theirs.

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum Danielle Parhizkaran/Globe Staff

As the Kings and Mavericks shipped their stars out of town this week, one can’t help but be reminded of how the Celtics have taken the opposite approach with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

De’Aaron Fox and Luka Doncic are on their way to new organizations. Fox will team up with Victor Wembanyana in San Antonio, Doncic with LeBron James in Los Angeles.

Tatum and Brown, who won their first championship together last season, each signed Supermax contract extensions with the Celtics worth more than $300 million apiece.

Players who have seven or eight years of NBA experience, an All-NBA selection two of the three previous seasons, and have never changed teams are eligible for the Supermax. Fox and Doncic would have met the criteria this summer had they stayed with their respective franchises.

The circumstances that led up to their trades were different. Dallas, which had lost to the NBA Finals last season, had reportedly grown impatient with Doncic. His conditioning was a major concern that raised questions about a longterm commitment, according to ESPN. His defense was also a noticeable issue in the series against the Celtics, who hunted him in pick-and-roll situations.

Fox is not only in tremendous shape, he’s one of the best transition players in the league. However the Kings, who had won at least 46 games in each of the past two seasons, have shown signs of regression this year. They’ve been treading water at 24-24 and they’ve lost four of their last five games. They attempted to shake things up, first by firing coach Mike Brown, and then ultimately settling on moving Fox.

The Celtics, on the other hand, invested in both of their stars. They also signed Derrick White and Jrue Holiday to nine-figure contract extensions. Boston’s entire starting five is under contact for next season.

As this roster continues to age, salaries continue to increase and the current ownership group prepares to sell the team, the Celtics could have some tough decisions to make in the near future.

According to Spotrac, the Celtics’ estimated tax bill for this season is around $65 million. If it were a person, the luxury tax bill would be the highest paid player on the team.

Next season, Tatum and Brown are projected to make $54 and 53 million respectively. The NBA salary cap projected to be around $156 million according to The Athletic. It’s going to take a lot of money just to keep those two together long term, let alone the rest of the team.

The Celtics are treating it as the cost of doing business for now, but eventually, something is probably going to have to give financially.

As this week’s trades demonstrate, not every fanbase gets to enjoy the kind of approach that the Celtics are taking with their stars.

Enjoy it while it lasts, these windows don’t stay open forever.

Tatum and the Celtics, however, erased Philly’s lead and turned it into a 118-110 victory inside Wells Fargo Center. It’s now Boston’s largest comeback in the era of Joe Mazzulla. Boston additionally has tied for the largest comeback victory in the league this season.

Tatum opened up about the comeback, per Celtics reporter Noa Dalzell. The Celtics star, however, reminded that his team has overcame large odds before.

“Just knowing that we’ve been here before — we’ve overcame deficits. But it takes a strong group, and I give credit to Sam (Hauser) off the bench, Luke (Kornet) those guys gave us big minutes, made big plays.”

The Celtics banked not one, or two, but four consecutive three’s to ignite the rally. Derrick White nailed a 26-foot shot with Tatum on the assist for the first three. White came back with another three — this time a 24-footer. Hauser later came in off the bench to fire his three-point attempt that cut the lead to 19. Tatum then took a step back before firing off his own three — cutting the 76ers lead to 94-78.

Philadelphia nursed a 94-80 lead entering the fourth. Jaylen Brown started the final period scoring by making a 17-foot shot for two points. Hauser then sliced the lead to 11 twice by hitting two more three-point jumpers — one at the 10:26 mark followed by another that went through the net with under 10 minutes to go.

Tatum took the soul out of the 76ers with 6:51 left — stepping back to fling one more three to give Boston the 101-100 lead. Boston went on to outscore Philadelphia 38-16 in the fourth quarter to snatch the victory.

Tatum shot 6 of 8 from the field during the final 15 minutes of play. He led the way with 35 points. Brown tacked on 21 points while White and Kristaps Prozingis added 17 and 18 points, respectively. Hauser scored 12 off the bench. The Celtics improved to 35-15 overall and are now five games behind the Eastern Conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tyrese Maxey, who spoiled Boston’s Christmas Day outing last month, was in the process of torching them again. He hit four of his first five 3-point attempts, and his confidence was overflowing as Philadelphia jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead.

The Celtics’ defense looked porous, even with Sixers stars Joel Embiid and Paul George in street clothes. The listlessness on defensive rotations and closeouts that plagued Boston during select moments throughout the season had returned.

Other than Kristaps Porzingis hitting the occasional jumper from way beyond the 3-point line, the Celtics did not have much going offensively.

All the ingredients for an ugly loss to an 11th place team were there. But, somehow, the Celtics dug their way out of the deficit.

“We just had to be honest with ourselves at halftime,” Jayson Tatum said. “They had 20 points in transition. We just – our competitive spirit wasn’t where it needed to be, and Joe (Mazzulla) was like ‘yo if you’re tired, then just tell me, I’ll sit you guys down and let the Stay Ready group play. We just had a choice to make.”

The Celtics chose to turn it on in the second-half, but the process did not work immediately. Philadelphia led by as much as 26 points in the third quarter.

“It was a long third quarter,” Tatum said. “It didn’t go our way right away and we just had to keep fighting, but it brought the best out of us. That’s how we’re supposed to play. It took a little bit from everybody. Our competitive joy was there on both ends and it was just fun to be a part of.”

Ex-Celtic Guerschon Yabusele beat on his chest after dunking on Derrick White, a visual example of how confident the Sixers were in their big lead. It felt, in that moment, that it simply wasn’t the Celtics’ night, White said.

“Just kind of frustrated,” White said. “Trying to get back into the game that’s like a 5-point swing. Tried to tell our guys to stick together, stick with it and found a way to get a win.”

The Celtics clamped down on Philadelphia late, allowing just 16 points in the third quarter. Maxey was limited to two points in the quarter, both of which came on free-throws.

Meanwhile, Tatum, White, and Sam Hauser caught fire from 3-point range, shooting a combined 7-for-8 from three in the final frame. The looks the Celtics were getting weren’t much different from the ones in the first-half, Mazzulla said while shaking his head.

“The math evened out, but you’ve got to play hard, math and effort,” Mazzulla said. “We played hard in the second half and the math caught up, which gave us a chance and then we executed, made some big-time plays on both ends.”

Jaylen Brown said the Celtics were able to adjust their mindset, which led to the second-half comeback.

“It’s the NBA,” Brown said. “On any given night, there’s enough talent where teams can play well. But, we’re the better team. We just had to stick with it. They were trying to mix it up. Give credit to Nick Nurse, he had his guys prepared and they threw some different coverages at us to try to slow us down.”

“But, once we just started playing basketball and forgetting about what coverage they’re in, forget about the referees, just come out and play, the game will take care of itself.

Beyonce Makes History, Becomes First Black Woman to Win a Grammy For Best Country Album

    Beyonce

Nationwide — Beyoncé has once again made history, becoming the first Black woman ever to win a Grammy for Best Country Album. Her groundbreaking achievement shatters barriers in a genre that has long been dominated by white artists and often overlooked the contributions of Black musicians. According to Billboard, this win for Cowboy Carter, she not only cements her status as one of the most versatile and influential artists of all time but also opens the door for greater recognition of diversity in country music.

This historic moment with her husband Jay-Z and her daughter Blue Ivy is significant because country music has deep roots in Black culture, yet Black artists have struggled for visibility in the mainstream industry. Beyoncé’s victory challenges outdated perceptions of who belongs in country music and proves that talent transcends racial and genre-based boundaries. Her album’s success demonstrates that country audiences are ready to embrace broader representation and that Black artists deserve their rightful place in the genre.

Beyond the award itself, Beyoncé’s win is a cultural shift that will inspire future generations of Black country artists. It sends a powerful message to the industry that inclusion and recognition are long overdue. As the first Black woman to take home this honor, she paves the way for others to follow, ensuring that country music continues to evolve and reflect the diverse voices that have always been a part of its foundation.

During her speech, she said, “I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just wanna encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and to stay persistent. Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators. Thank you. This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans, and I still am in shock, so thank you so much for this honor.”

Taylor Swift is fangirling over Janelle Monáe!

On Sunday, Feb. 2, Swift, 35, appeared on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards wearing an eye-catching red mini-dress by Vivienne Westwood. But fans on X were quick to spot that later in the evening she had accessorized her outfit with a jacket earlier worn by Monáe, 39.

Monáe had thrown her tuxedo jacket into the audience of celebrities while performing Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” in tribute to the late Quincy Jones.

“The way she caught the jacket and put it on is sending me 😭 #grammys,” an X user wrote, referring to Swift.

Celebrities were seen dancing as Monáe took to the stage wearing a classic tuxedo which she accessorized with silver socks and penny loafers in a nod to Jackson.

When she removed and threw her jacket and ripped open her shirt, it was revealed that she was wearing a graphic T-Shirt bearing the words “I [heart] QJ.”

Jones was 91 when he died at his Los Angeles home on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024.

Swift cheered in triumph when she caught the item and appeared to be in good spirits despite not winning any of the six Grammys she had been nominated for.

The “Shake It Off” singer was spotted clinking champagne glasses with Jay-Z after Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter won for album of the year rather than her recent offering, The Tortured Poets Department.

She also danced happily with a young fan during Shakira’s first Grammy Awards performance since 2007.
