2025 Super Bowl: What in the world happened to Patrick Mahomes? Examining Chiefs QB’s putrid play vs. Eagles

In Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs faced a surprising 40-22 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, renowned for his exceptional performances, delivered one of his most challenging games to date.

The Chiefs’ offense was stifled in the first half, failing to score and trailing 24-0 at halftime. Mahomes completed just 11 of 20 passes for 97 yards, with two interceptions, including a pick-six by Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean. The Eagles’ defense applied relentless pressure, sacking Mahomes six times and limiting his mobility. citeturn0search1

In the second half, Mahomes attempted to rally the team, throwing three touchdown passes. However, the deficit proved insurmountable, and the Chiefs were unable to overcome the Eagles’ commanding lead. citeturn0search1

After the game, Mahomes took to social media to apologize to fans, stating, “I let y’all down today.” He acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and expressed a commitment to improve. citeturn0news13

Mahomes’ performance in Super Bowl LIX was uncharacteristically subpar, marked by early turnovers and consistent pressure from the Eagles’ defense. Despite the loss, Mahomes’ leadership and accountability remain evident as he looks to rebound in future seasons.

  • Andy Reid Knew Exactly Who To Blame For The Chiefs’ Super Bowl 59 Blowout Loss

Andy Reid Knew Exactly Who To Blame For The Chiefs’ Super Bowl 59 Blowout Loss

The Chiefs did not fare well during Sunday’s 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, and head coach Andy Reid acknowledged that when speaking with the media after the game.

    Andy Reid talking to reporters

    Andy Reid (Photo via Twitter)

The Kansas City Chiefs wanted to make history with back-to-back-to-back championships, but Super Bowl LIX was dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles, who won the game 40-22.

    It was never a contest.

Starting the second half, the Philadelphia Eagles were leading 24-0 and never looked back, as the lead would eventually balloon to 34-0 in the third quarter.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took responsibility for his team’s 40-22 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

“Today was a rough day,” Reid said Sunday night. “We didn’t really play well in any of the phases. I didn’t coach good enough. They did a nice job.

“I’m proud of our guys, though, for the battle, the fight that they put in throughout the year, and all the games that they played here over the last few years.”

The Chiefs haven’t had many of these rough experiences in the playoffs since Patrick Mahomes took over.

After the club didn’t capitalize on its chance to three-peat, Reid noted that every loss in this situation is hard.

“Listen, they all hurt,” Reid said. “You get this far — you battled your tail off to get this far. Very, very hard to do. And, you know, we spend a lot of time doing this. It’s not a hobby, right? So, we’re in it the whole way. And spend a lot of hours doing it as players, as coaches. So, it’s going to hurt.

“They all hurt when you get to this level, and these things happen — three-peat aside or any of that stuff. You get this far and you don’t play as well as you want to, it hurts.”

The Chiefs may have failed to win another Lombardi Trophy this season, but they did claim its third straight Lamar Hunt Trophy as the AFC Champion.

Their dominance cannot be ignored. Since the 2019 season, the Chiefs have represented the conference in five of the last six Super Bowls.

Bill Belichick may have the record for most Super Bowl wins by a head coach, but Andy Reid just took another record away from him.

NBA names who will replace Giannis Antetokounmpo at 2025 All-Star game, it’s not LaMelo Ball

The 2025 NBA All-Star game is right around the corner, and one of the league’s biggest stars, Giannis Antetokounmpo, won’t be participating in the competition this time around.

Star who will replace Giannis Antetokounmpo at All-Star game, it's not LaMelo Ball

Antetokounmpo earned the ninth All-Star selection of his NBA career, despite battling through a rocky season in Milwaukee.

It seems like carrying the Bucks throughout the season has finally taken a toll on the Greek Freak’s body as it was confirmed that he is set to miss the 2025 NBA All-Star game due to a mild calf strain.

While the news is a bummer for Antetokounmpo fans, some already started anticipating who will take over Antetokounmpo’s spot at the 2025 All-Star game.

With a plethora of speculation thrown around on social media platforms, senior NBA insider Shams Charania confirmed the name of the Eastern Conference star who will replace Antetokounmpo.
“Atlanta’s Trae Young has replaced Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game,” Charania tweeted.

Young is having a terrific year, albeit struggling to keep the Atlanta Hawks above the .500 mark. He is averaging 23.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game.

So, there is no doubt that Young has the pedigree to be named an All-Star. In fact, many fans caused an uproar when they initially found out about Young getting snubbed from the competition.

5 potential replacements for Giannis Antetokounmpo at 2025 NBA all-star after Bucks star's injury blow

Now that Young will play in the fourth All-Star game of his NBA career, there is still some level of disappointment among fans. It’s primarily due to Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball’s absence from the competition.

Ball is having a breakout year with the Hornets and he led the fan-voting among every guard in the East, but the replacements are selected on the basis of coaches’ votes.

Brittany Mahomes is capping off the Chiefs season in style.

The mom of three, 29, showed up in style to watch her husband, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome for the 2025 Super Bowl on Feb. 9.

To cheer on the NFL team, Brittany dressed in a chic all-white outfit. She opted for a sexy white corset and cropped white jacket with long, baggy sleeves, which she teamed with custom white cargo jeans. The wide-leg pants featured embellishments and the team name written in red down one of the legs. Designer Raquelle Pedraza shared on Instagram that she created the custom corset and jacket from Brittany’s “favorite” Re/Done pants.

The outfit was revealed via Instagram courtesy of Patrick’s brother Jackson Mahomes. “SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! #chiefskingdom,” Jackson captioned a photo of himself and his sister-in-law.

Brittany was joined by her two children her oldest daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and her son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 2 on the field. Both kids were also decked out in their Chiefs gear.

Brittany touched down in New Orleans just days ago and went out for a double date with her husband and Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift on Feb. 7. For their night out, Brittany wore a Chiefs red coat with red boots and carried a red bag, fully showing support for the Kansas City team.

Swift opted for an all-black look, wearing a black minidress and black shoes.

Brittany has been showing off her team spirit all season long, including when the Chiefs faced off against the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 15. Brittany showed off a neutral Prada puffer jacket, which retails for $3,150 and was customized to read “Chiefs” on the lower back in large silver block letters, courtesy of New York-based creative studio Lefty’s Right Mind.

“The concept came together within one hour — between an Uber ride and a train into the city. I went for a classic varsity jacket style but with a tonal holiday aesthetic,” shared Becker. “By the time I reached Grand Central, the design was finalized and off to the embroiderer. Margot [Zamet, Brittany’s stylist] approves quickly — a quality every creative can appreciate!”

The custom coat was worn on top of a black blouse, wide-cut black pants and a pair of Prada shearling earmuffs that retail for $975.

She also made sure to let her fans know she was behind her husband’s game-day attire by sharing a video of him on her Instagram Stories, writing, “I take pride in styling my husband, but I mean damn he looks good in everything.”

The Kansas City Current co-owner gave birth during the post-season, welcoming the couple’s third child — Golden Raye — on Jan. 12. The couple announced the exciting news on Instagram, sharing a black-and-white photo.

In the photo, Brittany and Patrick could be seen holding their baby daughter’s feet above a wooden sign that reads her name. “•Golden Raye Mahomes• 1/12/25🎀✨,” they wrote in the caption of the joint post.

Super Bowl 59 has been one that the Kansas City Chiefs are going to want to forget soon as they were struggling from the jump against the Philadelphia Eagles. Tight end Travis Kelce had a rough game and as the feeling crept in that their attempt of a comeback was going to fall short, emotions were shown.

The Fox Sports cameras caught Travis Kelce looking devastated from the bench in the fourth quarter of the game.

Many people were speculating if this was the final game that Travis Kelce would play in as he has set himself up for success once he decides to call it a career. This year was statistically the worst that Kelce had and it will be interesting to see what his next step will be.

The Kansas City Chiefs fell short of winning their third straight Super Bowl and their fourth of this era. Kelce has shown flashes that the same dominant tight end is still able to make plays but those have been few and far between.

Kelce finished this season with 97 receptions on 133 targets for 823 yards (8.5 yards per catch) and three touchdowns.

Travis Kelce Makes History in Loss
Even though the Kansas City Chiefs were unable to win the Super Bowl, Travis Kelce was still able to break a record. He has now surpassed Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice with 35 receptions. Kelce now holds the record for the most receptions in the Super Bowl.

Kelce finished the game with four catches for 39 yards and certainly was not able to get to that level that we have become accustomed to with him in the biggest game of the year. He now has 389 receiving yards in the Super Bowl, 178 receptions in the postseason, 2,078 receiving yards in the playoffs, and 20 receiving touchdowns.

Luka Doncic took a subtle shot at the Mavericks in a farewell letter to the city of Dallas and its fans following his shocking trade to the Los Angeles Lakers over the weekend.

The superstar point guard is on the move after an agreement between the aforementioned Western Conference sides, with Anthony Davis headed the other way.

The trade came as a shock to everyone, including Luka himself. Reports noted he was stunned when the news dropped, which is certainly understandable as it did appear that he would be a Mav for life.

Doncic took to social media to share a heartfelt open letter several hours after the trade in which he expressed regret over the development.

“I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship,” he said in what seemed to be a swipe at the Mavericks organization.

Of course, the above is also the truth. We have no doubt that the 25-year-old guard expected to finish his career in Dallas. But it’s also worth noting that he expressed gratitude to the city and the fans but not the team.

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Mavericks were not willing to sign the Slovenian to the super-max extension he would have been eligible for this year as they had concerns about his conditioning, which they blamed for his injuries.

Given the trade, he is no longer eligible for the super-max, but the Lakers will likely sign him to a significant deal as he is now expected to be the new star in L.A.

Luka Doncic got some bad news after being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night.

The Slovenian guard is set to leave the Dallas Mavericks in shocking fashion, with the team opting to part ways ahead of the February 6 trade deadline. Doncic departs alongside Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Lakers are sending Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick the other way.

The Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal. They will receive Jalen Hood-Schifino plus two second-round picks for this year.

Luka is said to have been “stunned” by the trade, which will have him playing elsewhere for the first time since the Atlanta Hawks drafted him and traded him to Dallas in 2018.

Life will be very different for Luka as a Laker, yet there are bigger implications than meet the eye. Given the development, the guard will no longer be eligible for a super-max extension, having previously been in line for a five-year deal that would have paid him $345 million.

While the trade looks like a terrible one for the Mavs, they’re reported to have had concerns over the player’s conditioning issues and having to commit to him long-term.

He will still be eligible for an extension in the summer, and the Lakers will probably sign him to the biggest deal they can, as he’s now set to be the new face of the franchise with the LeBron James era dwindling.
