Jayson Tatum loved the Los Angeles Lakers growing up as he idolized Kobe Bryant, but he doesn’t care too much about the franchise anymore. In his postgame press conference after the Boston Celtics’ 103-85 win over the Miami Heat on Monday, Tatum was asked what it would mean for kids to watch a star like Luka Doncic on the Lakers, the way he saw Bryant.

“I don’t know, I know a lot of kids watch the Celtics play,” Tatum said.

When the reporter stated it was a big change for the NBA, Tatum admitted it was, but added he is no longer that kid who used to watch the Lakers.

“Yeah, that was a big trade and a big change,” Tatum replied. “But I’m not a little kid anymore, so I don’t really watch the Lakers play. I’m a big Celtics fan.”

The initial question did appear to strike a nerve with Tatum. It was a bit of an odd thing to ask as well and it’s not surprising that the Celtics star had a cold response to it.

Tatum is only focused on himself and the Celtics and they have rebounded after a rough stretch. They went 6-6 during a 12-game stretch in January and appeared to have lost their way a bit.

The Celtics needed to get their act together to avoid slipping down the standings and have done just that. They have won six of their last seven games now after beating the Heat and have improved to 38-16 on the season.

Tatum was the one who led the way against the Heat with 33 points (13-26 FG), eight rebounds, two assists, and a block. The five-time All-Star scored 20 of those 33 in the third quarter to put the Heat away for good on a night when the Celtics were without Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday. They needed their superstar to step up and he did so.

As for Doncic, he made his much-awaited debut for the Lakers on Monday against the Utah Jazz. The Slovenian recorded 14 points (5-14 FG), five rebounds, and four assists in what was his first game in over a month after he suffered a calf injury on Christmas. It will take a bit of time for Doncic to get up to speed and we might see him at his best when the Lakers take on the Celtics on March 8.

Jayson Tatum Wanted To Play For The Lakers Growing Up

While Tatum doesn’t care about the Lakers anymore, they were his team for the longest time. During an appearance on the Club 520 Podcast, Tatum stated he wanted to play for the Lakers but they had no interest in drafting him in 2017.

“I think it definitely worked out. I think the consensus is that Markelle was going No. 1, and when the Lakers got the second pick, it was like Lonzo was going 2… So, for me, I grew up as a Kobe fan,” Tatum said. “I always wanted to play for the Lakers. So for them to have the No. 2 pick and it wasn’t even a thought that I was gonna get drafted there, that was kinda devastating. I never worked out for the Lakers, they never came to watch me work out.”

The Lakers did select Lonzo Ball with the second pick and it meant Tatum fell into the Celtics’ lap. While he was disappointed that they had no interest in him, it did lead to him ending up in a better situation.

Tatum’s loyalties now lie firmly with the Celtics, and he is hoping to help them win back-to-back titles. For now, though, his focus would be on their next game against the San Antonio Spurs at TD Garden on Wednesday at 7 PM ET.

Banking On $300 Million Contract, Jaylen Brown Explains How He Plans to Tackle “Wealth Disparity” in Boston

Jaylen Brown NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics

Go to any major city in America, and it quickly becomes apparent how large the divide is between the haves and the have-nots. Poverty and homelessness are everywhere, while at the same time billionaires exert more and more influence over the world. Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown may be known first and foremost as a basketball player, but he’s committed to fighting this system that just doesn’t work for so many people.

Brown is one of the NBA’s true Renaissance men, a polymath whose interests include numerology, history, activism, and higher education. He’s given lectures at prestigious universities on heady scientific and social topics like dynamic normalization and social stratification. If those terms are foreign to you, take comfort in knowing that I had to look them up too.

Brown spoke to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated recently, and though they touched on basketball, the interview focused more on what Brown is doing to make the world a better place. Number one on that list is tackling wealth disparity, which he’s doing through his Boston Xchange, an organization that “is dedicated to fostering innovation and cultural diversity, empowering under-invested creators and entrepreneurs to thrive.”

Brown wants athletes to use their money and platform for good, and he thinks that they should be covered differently by the media than they are now.

“I think [athletes] should be celebrated more for what they do in their community rather than them being on TMZ or who they’re dating or what kind of car they’ve got. I just think society is backwards.”

Jaylen Brown is doing his part to build a better world

Brown’s work is especially notable for the efforts it’s making in Boston, a city that, for decades, has had uneasy racial relations between its population and athletes. The city has diversified more in recent years, and Brown is trying to help those who are less fortunate and traditionally underrepresented to thrive as entrepreneurs.

Just a few minutes of news consumption is all it takes to feel pretty bad about the world. It seems too often, the most powerful people are only interested in further enriching themselves, not in helping the disadvantaged. Brown is a shining exception and a reason that those who are not in the 1% shouldn’t lose hope, and he’s rightly been praised by other minority business advocates for his work.

Sports is an escape for many people, and there are some who say that because of that, athletes should just shut up and dribble. Brown’s efforts to improve society are proof positive that the world is a better place when athletes use their wealth and influence to actively engage in their communities.

The head of ‘Saturday Night Live’ said the singer asked him to cut a sketch that spoofed her “Bad Blood” music video from the show

Taylor Swift defined squad goals in 2015 — and now Lorne Michaels is giving insight into a hilarious sketch that made it onto his iconic show.

That year, Swift, 35, released her headline-making music video for the “Bad Blood” remix with Kendrick Lamar, which saw her assemble the ultimate A-list girl squad for a fiery music video.

The video — and the girl squad moment it birthed — inspired many imitations, including two sketches on Saturday Night Live season 41 in the months after the video’s premiere.

Every Time Taylor Swift Was on SNL

One sketch envisioned a post-apocalyptic world controlled fully by Swift and her girl squad, with a narrator joking that the singer “wanted to collect the whole world until there was no world left to collect.”

A few months later, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted the show and went for a full-on recreation of the music video, which saw Poehler, Fey, Amy Schumer and Aidy Bryant take their own spin of the girl squad, along with cameos from Gayle King and Robert Downey Sr.

But Michaels reveals Swift initially had her hesitations about the spoofs. When she was contacted about making a cameo in one of the sketches, she reportedly called Michaels directly, according to a new Vulture profile.

During their call, Swift asked Michaels, 80, to cut the sketch from the show entirely, to which he replied, “Taylor, I do not negotiate with terrorists,” and then hung up.

After the sketch aired on the show, Swift sent Michaels flowers, per the outlet, along with a note that said, “I hope there’s no bad blood.”

Swift’s original music video, released in May 2015, saw her bring together famous women from all across the industry. Everyone from models — Cindy Crawford, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge — to singers like Hailee Steinfeld, Ellie Goulding and Hayley Williams and stars including Zendaya, Jessica Alba, Ellen Pompeo and Mariska Hargitay were part of the fun. Swift’s longtime BFF Selena Gomez also starred.

Over the years, Swift has appeared on SNL many times. She first appeared on the show as a musical guest in 2009 and returned later that year to host. She has since returned multiple times, with the most recent cameo happening on Oct. 14, 2023 as she popped in to introduce musical guest and friend and collaborator, Ice Spice.

Spoofs of Swift’s songs continue to be par for the course on SNL. Last year, Ryan Gosling hosted the show and during his monologue, he was joined by his Fall Guy costar Emily Blunt, as he performed his own rendition of “All Too Well,” inspired by his role in Barbie.

The performance was a way for him to handle the “break up” with his character from the film after they “went too deep,” and he said there was “really only one thing that can help” when processing a breakup”: Swift’s music.

“Because I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan,” he sang to the tune of “All Too Well,” and when Blunt joined him onstage, she got in on Swift’s song too and reflected on her role in Oppenheimer.

Despite increasing backlash, Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson doubled down on his hate towards Taylor Swift.

The Super Bowl 2025 champion — who once played alongside Jason Kelce, whose brother Travis Kelce dates the superstar — wore a sweatshirt to the team’s victory parade on Friday, Feb. 14 that read: “Swifties can LIX my balls.”

This followed a post on Monday, Feb. 10 in which Gardner-Johnson posted an Instagram Story mocking Travis, insinuating he should have stayed with his ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole rather than date Swift to win the Super Bowl.

The safety’s initial post led to a flood of backlash from fans on all sides, from Swifties to Eagles supporters. And in the days since, his mother’s restaurant in Florida has been inundated with negative reviews on Yelp.

Gardner’s controversial hoodie comes days after the “Fortnight” singer was booed when she appeared on the Jumbotron at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans during the game on Sunday, Feb. 9.

It was not the same response that the venue had when it displayed a giant friendship bracelet for her Eras Tour stop there in October.

During the Super Bowl, Swift, 35, looked surprised but brushed off the boos from the stadium’s predominant Eagles contingent.

The singer turned to her pal, rapper Ice Spice, and longtime friend Ashley Avignone giving the crowd a bit of side-eye as the group shook off the negativity.

In the days before the big game, Swift was seen seemingly enjoying the Big Easy, going to dinner alongside her boyfriend tight end and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and taking in other sights with friends and family members.

The negative response to the music superstar perplexed at least one member of the Eagles: Saquon Barkley.

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, the star running back said he was disappointed by the crowd booing Swift at the game.

“I remember that they showed her on the Jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there,” he told Stern, who agreed.

For Barkley, the Taylor Swift Effect has been a real thing.

“She’s made the game bigger,” Barkley noted, and added, “We’re trying to expand the game and you know, her being a part of it’s only helping that.”

Taylor Swift’s home-cooked meal was not enjoyed by Travis Kelce’s sister-in-law, but it was not due to Swift’s cooking.

During a recent episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, host Alex Cooper asked Kylie Kelce if she and her husband, Jason Kelce, had ever gone out with Taylor and Travis.

Kylie went into detail about the pair’s double-date and explained that she could not get herself to eat Swift’s meal.

“Technically, yes, it was at home,” Kylie began. “This is gonna sound terrible, but I didn’t really eat the meal. I didn’t really eat the meal because I was eight weeks pregnant.”

Kylie quickly noted that her statement would “sound terrible” to Swifites, but explained that “nothing sounded” appetizing when she was eight weeks pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.

“This is gonna sound terrible, but I didn’t really eat the meal. I didn’t really eat the meal because I was eight weeks pregnant.”

    — Kylie Kelce

Also during the interview, Kylie revealed when she and her husband found out that Travis was dating Swift.

    Jason and Kylie Kelce

“I will say, we knew before everyone else knew. But we were, it was not like –” Kylie began before Cooper asked, “It didn’t hit the group chat?”

“It did not hit the group chat,” she explained.

“Jason and I found out together,” Kylie admitted. “But we knew before they like, hard launched [Taylor] going to a game.”

Swift and Travis infamously debuted their relationship at a Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24, 2023. The pop star surprised fans by appearing at Arrowhead Stadium in a suite with Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce.

Before dating Swift, Travis attended the Kansas City stop of her “The Eras Tour” and even made a friendship bracelet with his number on it. However, he later revealed on his podcast, “New Heights,” that he did not get a chance to give “The Tortured Poets Department” singer the gift.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift told Time magazine. “We started hanging out right after that.”

“So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other,” she explained. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Kylie later met Swift at another Kansas City Chiefs game, where the NFL team took on the Buffalo Bills. Jason’s wife noted fans were “deeply disturbed” that the two didn’t meet before that moment.

“There was like, all of this stuff leading up to it about, ‘Well, why haven’t they met? They’re avoiding each other,’” Kylie recalled. “I’m not avoiding anyone. I am more than happy to meet someone, especially someone that Travis is dating.”

“But it was funny to me because I kept saying to people I didn’t meet Travis for probably close to a year when Jason and I were dating,” she added. “And she’s busy.”

“It’s just so silly to me that that’s like the storyline that’s written.”

‘I believe that he’ll give it one more go,’ Omenihu said

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed towards a transformational offseason where the bulk of the roster is due to enter free agency. But one of the biggest questions facing the team will be what tight end Travis Kelce decides as far as his future is concerned.

Kelce faced retirement speculation in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX. Had Kansas City gone on to make NFL history with a third straight championship, many believed he would’ve retired.

But the Philadelphia Eagles threw a wrench into those suspected plans.

Kelce said after the 40-22 loss that he’s going to take time to decide what’s next.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year, and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” he said on the latest episode of his podcast, “New Heights.”

But one of Kelce’s current teammates believes the veteran tight end will be back next season.

“Big dog, we – the whole organization – we can’t go out like that,” Kansas City defensive end Charles Omenihu said Thursday during an appearance on FOX Sports’ “The Facility.”

“He’s a Hall of Famer from the moment he says, ‘I’m done.’ But I think Trav has a lot left. I think Trav is an extreme competitor. I think he’s somebody that loves the game, and I think in the storied career he’s had, going out like that – in my opinion, wouldn’t be something that he would do.”

Omenihu said that despite the changes that are sure to come in the offseason, Patrick Mahomes is enough of a reason for Kelce to stay.

“I believe that he’ll be back. I believe that he’ll give it one more go.”

A team source told The Athletic on Friday that the team has given Kelce a deadline of mid-March to make a decision.
