Rosie O’Donnell, Ana Navarro blast ‘heartless’ Ann Coulter for mocking Tim Walz’s son, who has learning disorder, for crying at DNC

“You have to be a special kind of heart-less mutant to attack a 17 year-old special needs kid,” Navarro posted on Instagram.

Rosie O’Donnell and Ana Navarro — two prominent members of The View‘s historical sisterhood — shared passionate criticism for conservative figures Ann Coulter and Mike Crispi after both commentators mocked the 17-year-old son of VP candidate Tim Walz for crying tears of joy over his father’s speech at Wednesday night’s Democratic National Convention.

Gus Walz, who has a non-verbal learning disorder, made headlines for his emotional reaction to seeing his father speak on stage in Chicago as part of the DNC’s third night of events, with longtime controversial pundit Coulter sharing (and later removing) an X post —which was viewed by several news outlets before its deletion — in which she called the teen “weird.”

“Jesus. What ass-wipes. Of course Republicans and Trumpers on social media taking shots at Gus Walz. You have to be a special kind of heart-less mutant to attack a 17 year-old special needs kid -not involved in politics- for the simple act of expressing love for his father,” Navarro shared on Instagram, with a screen shot of Coulter’s earlier post — which O’Donnell also shared to her Instagram feed with a caption that read: “talk about a cruel heartless woman – shes the worst.”

Navarro added, “children and teens like Gus can have trouble regulating their emotions in social settings,” referencing the Minnesota politician and his wife Gwen’s earlier revelation to PEOPLE that Gus was diagnosed with a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD, and anxiety.

“I don’t and won’t attack [Donald Trump’s son] Barron Trump. As far as I’m concerned, he’s out-of-bounds. They need to leave Gus Walz the f— alone,” Navarro continued.

Another former View cohost, Star Jones also posted, writing, “There is a special place in Hell for adults who bully Children. God does not like ugly … and he ain’t [too] fond of vile and disgusting women who use their vast platform to vilify the vulnerable. #DoBetter.” She stamped the post with her signature and added the caption, “I said what I said!”

O’Donnell replied to Jones’ post, “cruel coulter – pure evil.”

On X, Crispi — whose bio on the platform states that he’s a Trump delegate and a board member of the Italian American Civil Rights League — also went after Gus, as well as the family of Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“THIS is how you receive public praise from your father,” Crispi shared alongside a video of Barron Trump, 18, waving to a crowd. “Very demure. Barron Trump is the future. Tim Walz’s children are nobody’s going nowhere.”

Ann Coulter mocks Gus Walz, then deletes post to walk back comment

In the PEOPLE story, Tim and Gwen elaborated on their son’s life, and said that his conditions made him a unique — but no less loved — member of their family.

“Like so many American families, it took us time to figure out how to make sure we did everything we could to make sure Gus would be set up for success as he was growing up,” the couple said in a statement to the outlet. “It took time, but what became so immediately clear to us was that Gus’ condition is not a setback — it’s his secret power.”

Elsewhere at the DNC, Kerry Washington, Navarro, and Mindy Kaling presided as hosts over the first three nights of the proceedings, while celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Pink, and Lil Jon — as well as political icons like Barack Obama and Michelle Obama — all spoke on stage in support of Harris.
