Angel Reese Recalls ‘Broke’ Phase Before WNBA Stint

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese reflected on her life before joining the WNBA.

On social media, the 22-year-old gave a glimpse into her life, sharing her journey as an aspiring basketball player and the hustle it took to make ends meet.

In her Instagram Stories, Reese reposted a video from 2019 where she worked at the restaurant chain, Smashburger.

As the WNBA star looked back and described the experience as her “humble beginnings,” she revealed how she used to struggle to balance practice and work.

“I used to be broke, clocking in for work then going to practice, Smashburger days, IYKTYK. Sometimes I used to literally work from 10 AM to 10 PM,” she wrote.

Before becoming a standout for the Chicago Sky, Reese made a name for herself in college basketball. She first represented Maryland before transferring to LSU two years later.

There, she was named the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) for women’s basketball of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Following her success, the 6-foot-3 Baltimore native quickly became one of the highest-earning student-athletes of the NIL era.

According to Vogue, Reese secured lucrative deals with major brands such as Beats by Dre, Amazon, Goldman Sachs and more.

Now, following her impressive first year with the  Sky, the WNBA star continues to make waves both on and off the court.

Interestingly, Reebok has extended its multi-year partnership with Reese and plans to release a signature sneaker in 2026.

Apart from that, she has also signed a multi-deal agreement with the $34 billion Reese’s chocolate brand for the release of Reese’s Puffs cereal and their apparel line, the Angel x Reese’s Pieces Logo Collection.
