The Recording Academy announced Shaboozey as a performer at the GRAMMY Awards at the last minute, making him just one of seven performers who are up for Best New Artist. He’s certainly proved that he belongs on the GRAMMYs stage with an electric performance of his hit song.

Dressed in a maroon Western-inspired suit and surrounded by line dancers, Shaboozey had the crowd on their feet singing along to “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” The three-piece band killed it as well, which included an acoustic guitar, lap steel, and fiddle. Shaboozey ended his performance with a heartfelt shout out to L.A.

Last year, Shaboozey’s top hit, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” was at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks. This impressive showing tied with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” for the longest No. 1 entry in the chart’s history. Now, Shaboozey could win his first GRAMMY as well. He’s up against Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, Doechii, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims, and Khruangbin. However, Khruangbin have not been announced as performers.

Shaboozey and Other Best New Artist Nominees Perform at the GRAMMYs

Shaboozey ignited the crowd with his GRAMMYs performance, and prepared himself to possibly win his first award. As for the other awards, there are plenty of records poised to be broken. Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, among many others. Here are some of the biggest records that could be broken at the GRAMMYs tonight.

This year, the streak of female solo artists winning Best New Artist could continue. There was a seven-year streak from 1997 to 2003, and there could be yet another one from 2018 to 2025. That is, if Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, RAYE, or Chappell Roan win the award. The streak will be broken if Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Shaboozey, or Khruangbin win.

Taylor Swift could be the first female solo artist to win Album of the Year multiple years in a row, and the third artist to do it overall, following Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra. She won last year for Midnights, winning before that for Fearless, 1989, and folklore. If she wins this year, she’ll be the first artist to win five times, continuing her reign from last year as the first to win four times.

Beyoncé is currently the most nominated artist in the Record of the Year category without a win. She also holds the record for the most Album of the Year nominations without a win. She’s been nominated for Record of the Year eight times, and Album of the Year five times and hasn’t won either. Could Cowboy Carter change that?
