Just after midnight on Sunday, ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on perhaps the most shocking trade in NBA history. In a three-team deal with the Utah Jazz, the Lakers acquired Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, with the Mavericks getting All-Star big man Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick.
As for Utah, they received Jalen Hood-Schifino and a pair of 2025 second-round picks.
Speaking on the latest edition of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” program, Chandler Parsons revealed the conversation he had with Mark Cuban following the bombshell trade announcement.
After Parsons texted Cuban, “I’m so confused,” the Mavericks’ minority owner responded with, “That makes two of us.”
Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has received immense backlash for the trade, with some Dallas fans even protesting outside the American Airlines Center. Well, it’s certainly not Mark Cuban’s problem anymore, since he sold 73 percent of the team to Patrick Dumont and Miriam Adelson.
Mark Cuban Would Have Vetoed A Luka Doncic Trade
A quote from 2020 of Cuban saying that he would divorce his wife before trading Doncic recently resurfaced. It’s safe to say that if Cuban was still the majority owner of the Mavericks, he would have quickly vetoed this trade.
Trading a top-five player in the game before his 26th birthday? Less than a year removed from an NBA Finals appearance? Mavericks fans have every reason to feel upset, but only time will tell how this trade works for all parties.

According to Shams Charania, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Luka Doncic were unaware of the trade.
“This deal materialized in the shadows … LeBron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis had no idea this was coming. I’m told Luka Doncic is still stunned about this trade,” Charania said.
