The Chicago Sky will be missing the services of rookie star forward Angel Reese for the rest of the 2024 WNBA season after she suffered a wrist injury during last Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Chicago Sky Star Rookie Angel Reese Suffers Season-Ending Wrist Injury

In a post on TikTok, Reese said that doctors gave her the option to forego surgery to repair his upper-body injury. Reese ended up choosing to go under the knife following a seemingly stern warning from doctors about potential arthritis and other long-term issues if she decided against addressing the injury by surgery.

“Basically the doctors told me that I could either not get surgery or have surgery,” Reese opened up about her injury.

“The risk of not having surgery, I could literally have arthritis at 22 years old. That wasn’t an option. The bone could literally crack and literally completely shatter. Right now it’s like a hairline. Literally a hairline like shatter.”

Reese, who also said that she will be having surgery on Tuesday, concludes her rookie WNBA season with impressive averages nonetheless. In her first season as a pro, the former LSU Tiger star averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per contest.

A constant double-double machine, Reese’s absence is a painful blow for the Sky, though, Chicago was able to win their first game without her on Sunday against the Dallas Wings, 92-77.

Chicago still has five more games left in the regular season to try and boost its chances to clinch a playoff spot. At the moment, the Sky are eighth in the standing with a 13-22 record.
