Sophie Lloyd recently shared advice on dealing with critics and discussed how guitar makers should consider women’s body shapes in their designs during an appearance on The Mistress Carrie Podcast.

During the show, she emphasized how important it is for guitar bodies to be shaped with women in mind. She particularly mentioned it being a struggle while playing seated. “I had trouble before, you know, because we have boobs,” she said. “Sometimes you get a guitar and the place where it cuts really hurts when it kind of leans into you. And that’s something that people wouldn’t really think, you know? If there’s men making them, they wouldn’t really think about that. But that’s something we need to think about.”

“So that’s why the shape of mine fits really nicely and cradles my boob very well,” she added. “It really does make such a difference, because I spend a lot of time sitting down in front of the computer writing and stuff. When you stand up, I guess it doesn’t make as much of a difference, but that’s why I needed it to fit my frame. And then girls can go out and get something that they know is going to fit them and they’re not going to have any issues with that.”

Lloyd isn’t the only female guitarist to speak up about the same issue. English blues-rock guitarist Chantel McGregor also shared her struggles while playing guitar — and she didn’t forget to mention the breast problem. “Breasts are a problem too. When you’re sitting down you have to put your boobs on top of the instrument or they get squashed. Most of the time you don’t even need to wear a bra, as you spend so much time with your breasts propped on the guitar,” she explained in a chat with Telegraph.

She added, “I don’t think guitar makers have thought about any of this. The music industry is still male-dominated – women’s bodies just don’t come into the equation.”

Lloyd continues to share her guitar content on social media and has an upcoming show on January 16 at The Whisky A Go Go.
