Novak Djokovic gives great nickname to Aryna Sabalenka in congratulatory post

Novak Djokovic found a creative way to congratulate Aryna Sabalenka on her US Open win and the record 24-time Grand Slam champion also didn’t fail to acknowledge Jannik Sinner’s triumph.

On Saturday, the WTA world No. 2 lifted her third Grand Slam title after beating Jessica Pegula 7-5 7-5 in the women’s final. During the match, one of the things that drew attention was the tiger tattoo on the head of the Belarusian’s fitness coach Jason Stacy.

Knowing that Sabalenka has a few tiger tattoos and that she feels a connection to the animal because it reflects “my aggressive attitude while playing tennis,” it wasn’t hard to figure out that it was some kind of a pre-match deal made between the player and the coach. And when reacting to her win, Djokovic made sure to bring up the tiger.

“Congratulations Tigress,” the Serbian tennis superstar captioned his Instagram Story. Novak Djokovic congratulatory message to Aryna SabalenkaNovak Djokovic congratulatory message to Aryna Sabalenka© Novak Djokovic – Instagram

When it comes to the celebratory message that was sent out to the Italian, the 37-year-old congratulated him through an Instagram Story and also wrote in one of the comment sections: “Bravoooo Jannik.” Novak Djokovic congratulatory message to Jannik SinnerNovak Djokovic congratulatory message to Jannik Sinner© Novak Djokovic – Instagram

Sabalenka explains why her coach showed up with a tiger tattoo

After the Belarusian became a US Open champion, she was asked about her coach Stacy who went viral on social media. That’s when the former world No. 1 shared that the coach promised to do that if she made the final at Flushing Meadows.

“Jason promised me if I make it to the finals, he’s going to make it, he’s going to put it on his forehead. I wish it would be a little bit lower, like right here (gesturing towards her forehead) it would be cooler right?” she explained. Jason StacyJason Stacy© X screenshot

Meanwhile, Sabalenka highlighted that she was extremely proud following her win in New York. In the past, the current world No. 2 was close to winning the final Grand Slam of the year a couple of times – she picked up back-to-back semifinals in 2021 and 2022 before finishing as runner-up last year. That 2023 final loss was extremely painful because the 26-year-old made a dominant start and easily won the first but then Coco Gauff created a big comeback.

“I remember all those tough losses in the past here. It’s going to sound easy but never give up on your dreams and just keep trying, keep working hard. If you’re really working hard and you’re sacrificing everything for a dream, you’re going to get it one day. I’m just super proud of myself. I never say that, but really guys, I’m super proud of myself, I’m proud of my team that no matter what, no matter which situation we were facing, this season and in the past, we were able to go through it and get all those beautiful trophies,” Sabalenka recounted.

Sinner stepped up big time and he is now major competition to Djokovic

After a very strong end to 2023, the question was if the Italian would continue with his rise in 2024 and potentially become a Major champion and the world No. 1. And it didn’t take long to get an answer to that question after the 23-year-old beat Djokovic in the Australian Open final and went on to become a Slam winner in Melbourne.

Since then, Sinner has also become the top-ranked player in the game and now is also set to finish the year with two Majors won.

“Yeah, it was a great run, no, overall. For sure winning the first Grand Slam of the year gives you confidence, it gives you, you know, good feelings. But in the other way, you always have to work, you have to — it never stops. It’s like you always keep going and keep going. Until now I didn’t have so much time off to say, okay, you have done a great job (smiling),” Sinner said.

“Yeah, you know, it’s big thanks also to my team, because we always try some new work, some new things out, you know, tactically, how can you play better against certain opponents, how do you work on some shots, whatever you feel better or not, I was a lot in the gym, because I knew physically I still had to improve and I still have to improve a lot.

“No, this is all part of sacrifices you make for an eventual future. So we will keep working. I mean, in my mind, I know that I’m not perfect and I will never be perfect, but, you know, we always try to evolve in my game. Then after my career I can say, okay, l’ve done everything possible to be at 100%.”

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old Serb completed a season without a Grand Slam won for the first time since 2017. Next year, Djokovic will certainly be hoping to return to winning Majors but Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will also have something to say.

Novak Djokovic sent clear warning by Jannik Sinner after winning U.S. Open

Jannik Sinner became the first man since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to win both hard court Grand Slam titles in the same year – and warned he is only going to get better.

Jannik Sinner hailed the ascent of tennis’ “new generation” as he celebrated a landmark year, with both world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and himself claiming all Grand Slam titles this season – a feat not seen since 1993 for players aged 23 or under.

Sinner, just 23, clinched the hardcourt double with a victory over Taylor Fritz to take home the U.S. Open trophy, adding to his Australian Open triumph.

For the first time in nearly two decades, the Big Three – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer – went without a major title in what has proved a seismic shift in the world of men’s tennis. “It is a bit different, for sure,” Sinner acknowledged.

“It’s something new. It’s nice for the sport to see some new champions. Nice to see new rivalries. I feel like the new generation we push each other, trying to improve.”

Having conquered every final he strode into this year, Sinner exuded confidence and an eagerness to evolve further under pressure. “I always have players and I will always have players who are going to make me a better player, because there are going to be times where they beat me.”

    TENNIS-USA-OPEN

“Then you have to try to find a way how to win against certain players. I feel it’s good for the sport to have some new champions.”

Sinner’s victory parade commenced in Melbourne and didn’t miss a beat through the season, seeing him crowned the youngest man to snag both hard court major titles within a single season. Even more impressive, he joins an exclusive club alongside Jimmy Connors (1974) and Guillermo Vilas (1977), becoming only the third man in the Open Era to clutch his initial duo of Grand Slam crowns in one calendar swoop.

The Italian tennis star is gearing up for more improvement, noting that despite his recent performance, not everything was at its best. “Today we saw that not everything was perfect,” he remarked, adding that he aims to keep evolving his game.

“I could have served slightly better, but this makes me realise that the work never stops.”

He discussed the constant grind and the importance of maintaining daily routines, stressing, “It’s always a continuous work which, at the end of the day, if you want to be a better player you always have to work, and you have to have these daily routines, accept difficult times on court.”

“The work never stops. How can you play better against certain opponents? How do you work on such shots?

“I was a lot in the gym, because I knew physically I still had to improve and I still have to improve a lot. This is all part of the sacrifices you make for an eventual future. So we will keep working.

“I know that I’m not perfect and I will never be perfect, but we always try to evolve in my game. Then after my career I can say: ‘Okay, I’ve done everything possible to be at 100 per cent.’”.

After securing a victory against Fritz, he opened up about recent challenges during his courtside interview, stating, “The last month has been very difficult because you all know what I went through.”

Jannik Sinner admitted he had “chills” after a special conversation with his coach.

Darren Cahill made a touching statement about the Italian’s parents which stayed with him as he headed into the US Open final.

Sinner is very close with his family – he previously dedicated his Australian Open victory to his mum and dad. And after winning the US Open, he paid tribute to his seriously ill aunt.

The world No. 1 was the overwhelming favourite going into Sunday’s championship match. His opponent, Taylor Fritz, had never made it so far in a Grand Slam and had the pressure of trying to become the first American man to win a Major in 21 years.

Meanwhile, Sinner already had a Slam trophy under his belt and was the top seed. But the 23-year-old still needed a pep talk from his coach ahead of the match and it proved significant. “The best compliment I got was from Darren before the final,” the Italian said.

Relaying Cahill’s heartwarming message, Sinner continued: “He said: ‘Do you know who the two people who are most proud of you are? Your parents.’ That gave me chills. Him being a father, it had a special effect on me because he knows exactly what I’ve been through.”

The top seed took that sentiment into the match, where managed to recover from a wobble in the third set and won the last four games in a row, beating Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5. Stepping up to address Arthur Ashe Stadium as the newly-crowned champion, Sinner dedicated his triumph to his aunt.

“I love tennis, I practise a lot for this kind of stages but I also realise that off the court there is a life,” he explained. “I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt because she is really not feeling well health-wise, I don’t know how much longer I’ll have her in my life.

“It’s so nice that I can share positive moments still with her. She was a very important person for my life and she still is. So if that would be the biggest wish, I would wish everyone the best health to everyone but unfortunately it’s not possible.”

Appearing on the Today Show the morning after winning his second Major, Sinner elaborated on his relationship with his aunt. “It’s a very difficult moment,” he said.

“She is a very important person in my life because my parents, they used to work all the time, and every time when I came back home after school or whatever and my parents weren’t there, my aunt sometimes arrived.”

It’s not the first time Sinner has credited his family for his Grand Slam success. When he won the Australian Open in January, he told the crowd: “I wish that everyone could have my parents because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to. Even when I was younger, I played also some other sports and then they never put pressure on myself. And I wish that this freedom was possible for as many young kids as possible so thank you so much for my parents.”

Karl-Anthony Towns Proposes A Question Amid ‘Disturbing’ Tyreek Hill Arrest Video

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill recently faced a devastating incident before the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The 30-year-old was arrested by Miami-Dade police after a brief argument with the officers. While many fans and players have reacted to the incident, Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Karl-Anthony Towns also shared his thoughts on the NFL star’s arrest.

In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Towns, who was recently spotted in Vegas with Paul George, expressed his disappointment with the Miami police. The four-time NBA All-Star mentioned that the incident was disturbing and disgusting and asked the question of what would happen if a normal person had done the same.

“That @cheetah police video is not only disturbing, but disgusting. Like he said, what would’ve happen if he wasn’t who he is?” Towns mentioned in his latest post on X.

The incident took place outside Hard Rock Stadium. Hill was driving his car when the officers stopped him. After opening the window, the Miami-Dade Police asked the 30-year-old to provide his license. They had a brief argument, which escalated to an arrest when the officers pulled Hill out of the car.

Hill’s teammate, Calais Campbell, was also present during the incident and tried to calm the situation. However, the officers arrested him because he tried to defend Hill. Later, Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels mentioned that the officers were under investigation.

Fans Hold Contrasting Opinions on Towns’ Post

While many fans have already shown their anger over the officers’ behavior, several other fans also criticized Hill because of his attitude towards the officers. Many fans started criticizing Hill in the comment section of Towns’ post.

One fan said he had a better question than Towns: “What would’ve happened if he followed the officers’ instructions? Answer: nothing.”

Meanwhile, another fan said, “That shouldn’t play a factor at all. He’s not above the law. Going 105 in a 50? C’mon. If it was any normal person they’d be in jail. He’s lucky to get off like he did. And normal people would’ve just complied.”

Another fan questioned Towns, “Do you really not see that tyreek had an equal part in this situation. Both parties acted like idiots. What you people say about this?be real.”

According to StatMuse, Towns averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 62 games in the 2023-24 season. He was selected to play in his fourth All-Star Game. The Timberwolves star’s reaction has garnered the attention of several fans, and it will be fascinating to see if any player or analyst will join the fans in reacting to Towns’ post.

With every new development, the Tyreek Hill situation gets crazier and many other celebrities are seaking out on what they saw.

The day after the Miami Dolphins wide receiver was arrested, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was on the Roc and Manuch Show, where they asked about his thoughts.

“I don’t know what happened, I think it clearly escalated quickly. I hate that we’re gonna throw it into media because the guys are gonna quickly go to race, and it bothers me because we don’t know what happened. We got so many fools in the media who love to play the race card,” Barkley said.

Charles Barkley voiced some concerns about the handling of the situation by many in the media and even compared it to the situation involving Scottie Scheffler being arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship.

“I hate that we’re gonna throw it in the media because the guys are going to quickly go to race, and it bothers me because we don’t know what happened. We got so many fools in the media that love to play the race card, I saw wait a minute they just did the same thing to Scottie Scheffler.”

Barkley added that a celebrity can’t pull that card when pulled over, which Tyreek Hill never did, and that everybody should cooperate in that situation.

“I think the one thing you can’t do as a celebrity, you can’t say, ‘Do you know who I am?’” Barkley said. “Like I said I don’t know what happened but that’s the one thing you can’t do. You say, ‘yes sir,’ cooperate 100%.”

He blamed Hill for making the situation escalate after reading the police report.

“I saw on the police report he was uncooperative, but the one thing I hate is when we put stuff in the media, and we let guys who race bait start throwing stuff out there,” Barkley said. “I saw wait a minute the same thing just happened to Scottie Scheffler, who actually got booked, he went down to the big house.”

Despite the pregame turmoil, Tyreek Hill wasn’t the least bit phased as the Dolphins ultimately secured a 20-17 victory over the Jaguars, with Hill playing a key role in the conference win.

He finished the day hauling in seven passes for 130 yards, including an 80-yard reception for a touchdown.

Tyreek Hill Was ‘Shellshocked’ After Watching Bodycam Video of His Detainment

Tyreek Hill said he was “still shell-shocked” and “embarrassed” following a controversial police detainment that occurred just hours before the team’s season opener on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The news dominated headlines as teams around the country were gearing up for the opening of the 2024 season.

In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Hill said the traffic stop could have turned tragic were he, not a famous figure, telling her the story could have been, “Tyreek Hill got shot in front of Hard Rock Stadium?”

Hill was ripped by his arms and head from his car during a traffic stop Sunday morning just outside the stadium, hours before the season opened.

Recently released body cam shows cops got angry when Hill closed his car window and didn’t reopen it quickly enough.

“I really wasn’t on that kind of energy. Like, I was chilling. I was following the rules. I wasn’t moving fast because, you know, I got injuries. You feel me? I got things that I go through. I’ve been doing this for a moment now, man. So I’m dealing with some stuff. I’m still kinda shell-shocked from it,” Hill told Collins.

Jannik Sinner refuses to answer question about girlfriend and reveals toll of doping saga

Jannik Sinner batted away a question about his girlfriend while admitting his now-closed doping case affected him negatively before winning the US Open

Jannik Sinner has refused to answer a question about kissing his girlfriend after Sunday’s US Open final victory. The World No. 1’s second Grand Slam title of the year came weeks after news of his doping violation became public, which he says made him “sick” and resulted in “sleepless nights”.

2024 US Open - Final Day

Sinner, 23, began the US Open under a shroud of controversy as it was revealed just days prior that he’d twice tested positive for the banned substance clostebol in March. The Italian tennis star was allowed to continue playing after an independent tribunal ruled he “bore no fault or negligence”, having successfully argued that the tests were the result of contamination from his then-physio.

His doping saga finally came to a head this week after the The World Anti-Doping Agency did not appeal the decision. But the controversy did not come without taking a toll on Sinner at the US Open, where he emerged victorious for the first time.

Talking about the impact of his doping controversy, Sinner told Ubitennis: “Since the news came out, I’ve been sick, I haven’t slept, I’ve had many sleepless nights and then when there’s tension involved it’s even more difficult, but it’s made me grow and that’s why I’ve won so many games.”

Sinner’s celebrations after beating Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5 were notably subdued. The toll of recent days was evident as he merely put his arms in the air.

It was only when he approached his player’s box that he displayed emotion, hugging members of his team, as well as girlfriend and fellow tennis star Anna Kalinskaya. He kissed the Russian – something which he was also quizzed on.

2024 US Open - Final Day

The Ubitennis interviewer asked: “Jannik, forgive me for asking this. Italians want to know the first name of your aunt to whom you dedicated your victory. And then, you are aware that the whole world saw the kiss (with Kalinskaya), are you happy about that?”

But the two-time Grand Slam winner batted away both questions, saying: “I don’t want to answer one or the other. It’s a family thing.” Sinner’s doping scandal and his relationship with Kalinskaya have been targetted by his tennis rival Nick Kyrgios recently.

Kyrgios, who is currently out injured, called for Sinner to face a two year ban and has continued to take aim at his doping case. While fans speculated whether Kyrgios holds any bitterness because Sinner is now dating his ex, Kyrgios on Saturday replied to an old photo of the happy couple with the cryptic message: “Second serve.”

Kyrgios wasn’t tagged in the post and the tweet did not contain any text but he still managed to find the old snap. The user quickly deleted it but screenshots popped up all over social media as the Australian faced backlash.

  • F**KING UP! Charles Barkley SC0RCHES WΝBA Players for JEALOUS BEHAVIOR toward Caitlin Clark!

F**KING UP! Charles Barkley SC0RCHES WΝBA Players for JEALOUS BEHAVIOR toward Caitlin Clark!

Charles Barkley has recently spoken out against the negative reactions from WNBA players towards Caitlin Clark, accusing them of jealousy and pettiness.

Charles Barkley bashes WNBA players for being jealous to Caitlin Clark / News - Basketnews.com

Barkley argues that Clark’s burgeoning popularity is a boon for the league, drawing in casual fans and potentially increasing earnings for players. He stresses the importance of supporting emerging talents like Clark rather than undermining their contributions to women’s basketball.

The criticism from established WNBA players, including Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi, has highlighted a growing tension between veteran stars and new talents like Clark. Their reactions underscore a deeper issue within the league concerning recognition and support for rising stars.

Similarly, Cheryl Swoopes’ reluctance to acknowledge Clark’s achievements reflects a broader resistance from some retired players to embrace new talent, which Barkley believes undermines the league’s growth and unity.

Clark’s influence on the WNBA has been profound. Her impressive skills and marketability have set her apart as a potential future great in women’s basketball. Her success in college has seamlessly translated into professional acclaim, attracting viewers and generating excitement around the league. Barkley’s critique points to frustrations with how the WNBA has managed Clark’s popularity, suggesting that better promotion and support for emerging stars are crucial for the league’s progress.

However, the negativity surrounding Clark’s success is not just about personal jealousy but also touches on deeper societal issues, including racial biases and misinterpretations of her identity. The so-called ‘Caitlyn Clark effect’ could significantly benefit women’s sports by driving increased media attention and financial opportunities. Enhanced media deals are expected to boost revenues, potentially leading to higher player salaries.

Despite the positive impact of Clark’s presence, the WNBA’s marketing strategies have faced scrutiny. The league’s handling of star players like Clark has raised concerns, especially regarding player safety. The potential risk of injury to key players could negatively affect viewership and the league’s financial stability.

Recent discussions have even touched on the possibility of a boycott if the league does not address issues surrounding player safety and management responses to on-court violence. Fans are increasingly vocal about their concerns, underscoring the critical need for the WNBA to navigate these challenges effectively.

In summary, while Caitlin Clark’s rise is reshaping perceptions of women’s basketball and drawing new fans to the WNBA, the league faces internal and external challenges. Barkley’s comments highlight the need for a supportive environment for emerging talents and a strategic approach to address both player safety and marketing concerns.

  • Djokovic shut out as young guns usher in new Grand Slam era

Djokovic shut out as young guns usher in new Grand Slam era

BENGALURU, Sept 10 (Reuters) – An epoch-shifting Grand Slam season dominated by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has provided the clearest sign yet that the “Big Three” era of men’s tennis is finally over, with Novak Djokovic destined to be its last year-end number one.

The golden rule that you should never write off Djokovic still holds true, but after he, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer had won at least one Grand Slam title between them every season since 2003, this year there were none.

Sinner lifted the U.S. Open title on Sunday following his breakthrough Australian Open triumph in January, while Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon to mark the first time since 1993 that men aged 23 or under had swept the Grand Slams.

“It’s a bit different, for sure. It’s something new, but also nice to see,” said Sinner, who overcame the distraction of a doping controversy to help usher in a new age.

“It’s nice to see new champions. Nice to see new rivalries. I feel it’s good for the sport to have some new champions.”
The extraordinary dominance of the “Big Three” saw them win 66 of 81 Grand Slam tournaments from Federer’s first Wimbledon title in 2003 to Djokovic’s 24th major title at Flushing Meadows last year.

With Federer retired and Nadal hampered by injury, Djokovic single-handedly held back the younger generation in 2023 by winning three of the four majors and finishing as the year-end number one for a record-extending eighth time.

This year, Djokovic endured a lacklustre Grand Slam campaign by his lofty standards, starting with a semi-final loss to Sinner at Melbourne Park and continuing with an injury enforced withdrawal from the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Mauled by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, he suffered a chastening defeat by Alexei Popyrin in the third round of the U.S. Open and was shut out of the majors for the first time since his injury-plagued 2017 season.

He did, however, produce a miraculous effort to stave off much younger rivals at the Paris Olympics, including Alcaraz in the final, and claim the gold medal he had long coveted.
“From a larger perspective, of course I have to be content,” Djokovic said in the aftermath of his U.S. Open exit.

“It’s hard to see the big perspective right now. You’re just angry and upset that you lost and the way you played. But tomorrow is a new day. I’ll obviously think about what to do next.”

Djokovic shut out as young guns usher in new Grand Slam era | Reuters

    IMPOSSIBLE TASK

Having turned 37 in May, Djokovic is already past the age at which any man has won a Grand Slam title and finishing the season at the top of the rankings looks an impossible task in the twilight of his career.

Djokovic is ninth in the race to the season finale in Turin – the separate year-to-date standings that serve as a measuring stick for the battle for number one – and is unlikely to gain much ground in the Asian swing starting this month.

A more important target for a man who has always had a huge regard for the history of the game might be winning a 25th Grand Slam to surpass Margaret Court’s record.

Nowhere is that more likely to happen than at January’s Australian Open, where Djokovic has lifted the trophy a record 10 times in 19 appearances.

“You never want to count him out,” seven-times major champion John McEnroe told Eurosport.

“This would certainly be the first time where you could say with some seriousness that you start to wonder if he’s going to win (a major) again.

“I’m sure to be surprised either way. If he doesn’t win, you’d be like ‘wow, he won three of the four last year and now we’re saying he’ll never win it again’.

“And then I would be surprised in a way if he did, because of his age. At some point, that catches up to you and you lose a little bit of that fear factor with some of the guys.”
