The silver medal won at his first  Olympics should be a source of pride for Carlos Alcaraz and not of disappointment. The Spaniard won the silver medal only surrendering to an extraordinary performance by Novak Djokovic in the final. The Spaniard burst into tears during the interview given a few minutes after the defeat to Eurosport. Tears of someone who would have wanted to give a historic gold to his country. But Carlitos should be proud, also for having played doubles with his idol Rafael Nadal in the last Olympics of the legendary 22-time Slam champion.

However, Alcaraz understood the importance of the feat he achieved by winning the silver and explained that he enjoyed the moment already on the podium.Carlos Alcaraz

“I already appreciate the silver medal a lot, because I know how difficult it is and I’m enjoying the moment. Now I feel good and I enjoy wearing it. Of course when I left the court it was difficult for me because I have a strong ambition. But you have to put everything into perspective, think about how complicated it is to win an  Olympic medal. During the award ceremony, on the podium, I said to myself: You have to appreciate this moment, you don’t know if it will happen again,” Alcaraz explained to Eurosport

“A lot can happen in four years and I hope to be able to compete in Los Angeles 2028. The  Olympic Games are one of the most special competitions there is. Being able to represent your country at the Olympics is one of the most beautiful things about sport in general. And for me it was really exciting to be able to compete and try to bring joy to all the Spanish people.

The doubles with Rafael Nadal? There were moments when I had goosebumps during the matches with him. It’s something I will always remember and that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” he added.

Sinner asked about Djokovic winning his first gold  medal and the Serb’s emotional reaction.

Jannik Sinner tells how he felt about Novak Djokovic's viral Olympic win celebration

Jannik Sinner says Novak Djokovic’s extremely emotional reaction to winning the  Paris Olympics is very understandable considering everything the Serb went through before accomplishing one of his biggest goals and dreams.

After Carlos Alcaraz won back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the French Open and Wimbledon, it wasn’t a secret that many had him as the favorite in the  Paris Olympics final versus Djokovic.

And indeed, Alcaraz delivered a great performance and played at a high-level throughout the entire final – but Djokovic did so as well – and he did it a bit better and clinched a 7-6 (3) 7-6 (2) win in a two-set Olympic final that lasted nearly three hours. Had the match gone to a decider, the final would have very likely come near or top four hours of play – which would be absolutely insane.

“A very high-quality match, I’m sure everyone will agree. A very physically demanding match. When two of the best in the world face off, something special has to happen. It was a pleasure to watch such a match, I think everyone enjoyed it. You really don’t see a match like that every day,” Sinner said in his pre-tournament presser in Montreal.

This year, Djokovic has been very openly telling everyone that winning his first Olympic gold medal is his biggest goal and priority for this part of his career. And after getting one and completing his astonishing resume to the absolute fullest, the 37-year-old celebrated very passionately and emotionally on the court – that included the Serb going down on his knees and sobbing tears of joy.

“Of course I understand, but I think he understands it more than anyone else. He tried so hard to get this medal, which was the last thing he needed to accomplish. He knew this in his mind. He was close a couple of times, making bronze or fourth a couple of times. This year was his year, and it was just a very nice scene, to see how much this means to him,” Sinner explained.

Sinner on his health issue and how he is feeling now

Just a couple of days before the start of the  Olympics, world No. 1 Sinner announced that he was withdrawing from the event due to tonsilitis.

For 22-year-old Sinner, it was supposed to be his  Olympic debut and he would have been among the top favorites for the gold  medal in the French capital. Three years earlier, Sinner had a chance to play at the Tokyo  Olympics but he decided against making his  Olympic debut back then.

While not having Sinner was a major blow to the Italian Olympic team, they still had success in tennis events after Lorenzo Musetti won the bronze medal in singles while Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini won gold in women’s doubles.

“It broke my heart not to be able to go to Paris, the Games were one of my main goals for the season. In the end though, looking at everything from a broader perspective, Musetti won a bronze, so an Italian is happy and I am happy for him,” Sinner claimed.Jannik Sinner Jannik Sinner© Getty Images Sport – Minas Panagiotakis

Meanwhile, Sinner is ready to return to action at this week’s Montreal Masters – where he will be the defending champion since he won the Toronto Masters last year. Speaking to reporters, the 22-year-old Italian shared that he was taking antibiotic for a week but that he is feeling much better now.

“Tonsillitis was tough, I took antibiotics for almost a week and didn’t touch the racquet for days. When I left for Canada, I wasn’t in perfect condition, now I feel much better and stronger every day. I am happy to be here, where I won my first Masters 1000, I arrived early and with my team, we are preparing everything in the best way to defend the title and continue to be consistent, as we have been all year,” Sinner said.

Sinner on why he doesn’t view his top-seeding as something extraordinary

When Sinner won the tournament that was held in Toronto last year, he was world No. 8. Now, he is the top-ranked player in the world but insists that changes nothing in his approach or attitude.

“It’s just a different number. Me and my team, we try to make the process, our daily routine, to make everything in the best possible way and just try to be ready for every challenge that comes up. I’m very happy to come back here. It started off from last year semis of Wimbledon and then I came here for the first Masters event I won. I’ve been very consistent throughout one year and that’s at least what we will try to do in the next months also,” Sinner said.

The world No. 1 said it “broke his heart” to miss the Paris 2024 Games.

He is now back in action at this week’s Canadian Open, where he is the reigning champion.

Sinner is already back to winning ways in Montreal, as he has partnered with British No. 1 Jack Draper in the doubles and they have already reached the third round. He will now start his singles campaign against Borna Coric.

It will be the Italian’s first singles match since Wimbledon as he was forced to pull out of the Olympics with tonsillitis. It’s not the first time illness has stopped Sinner from competing at a big event. But he has now revealed that he opted against having surgery that would have helped avoid future issues.

“The tonsils were not removed because that would require a little more time for recovery,” the 22-year-old told Ziggo Sport after arriving in Canada. Sinner also opened up on his illness during his pre-tournament press conference and admitted that he couldn’t practice for days.

He explained: “Tonsillitis was tough, I took antibiotics for almost a week and didn’t touch the racket for days. When I left for Canada, I wasn’t in perfect condition, now I feel much better and stronger every day.”

While the world No. 1 is happy to be back in time for his title defence in Canada, he was hit hard by his Olympics withdrawal. “I saw some of the Olympics, although I didn’t watch much  tennis. It broke my heart not to be able to go to Paris, the Games were one of my main goals of the season,” he added.

Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will not compete at the  U.S. Open this year for what was expected to be his final ever Grand Slam.

Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will not compete at the upcoming U.S. Open. The Spaniard may have now played his final Grand Slam after also missing Wimbledon last month – but the Olympics will not be his final ever event despite recent hints.

The Spaniard featured at the Paris Olympics last month, losing in the second round of the singles bracket against eventual gold medalist Novak Djokovic. Nadal, 38, also bowed out of the men’s doubles at the quarterfinal stage alongside Carlos Alcaraz who was the silver medal winner for Spain in the singles.

The world No.159 was on the entry list for the U.S. Open – which starts August 26 and ends September 8 – via a protected ranking but has now pulled out. After his Olympics exit, the 22-time Grand Slam champion suggested the Paris tournament might be his final event as a tennis player ahead of his anticipated retirement at the end of 2024. But he has now confirmed that will not be the case.

Nadal said in a statement: “Hi all, writing today is to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s  U.S. Open a place where I have amazing memories. I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100 per cent this time. Thanks to all my U.S. fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of lucks to all for the always amazing U.S. Open! My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin.”

His decision to play for Team Europe at the Laver Cup follows comments in Paris in which Nadal hinted he may never take to the court as a professional again. The King of Clay said: “It is time to rest, to take some time and in a few days to assess everything that has happened during these months and to figure out what I really want.

“The event is different from the circuit and I have enjoyed it as much as I could. It has been a fun, positive week, it has not ended the way I wanted, but this is sport. I have not been at the level I needed to fight for medals and in the doubles we have not been successful.”

But fans of the Spanish legend will be delighted to know they will still get at least one more chance to see him on court in Germany. The 2024 Laver Cup takes place from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. He will once again unite with Alcaraz, as well as Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas, for Bjorn Borg’s team at the Uber Arena in Berlin.

They take on John McEnroe’s Team World comprised of Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton – with two slots still to be filled.

Should Nadal  retire after the Laver Cup as expected, he will do so as the man with the second most Grand Slams of all time behind Djokovic (24) with his final ever appearance at a Major coming at his beloved French Open where he is a 14-time champion.

He lost in the first round this year in straight sets against Alexander Zverev back in May. His final ever ATP Tour contest stands to be his Swedish Open final defeat to Nuno Borges in Bastad last month.

Social Media Is Pissed Off After Skip Bayless Claims LeBron James Shouldn’t Have Won MVP Over Stephen Curry

The 2024 Paris  Olympics was Stephen Curry’s first ever appearance in the Paris Olympics. The Golden State Warriors star poured so much athleticism into his first appearance on the international stage that caught everyone’s attention, including popular NBA analyst Skip Bayless.

After Team USA’s 98-87 victory over France in the Olympics final, LeBron James was crowned with the MVP title of the tournament. Soon after that, Bayless stirred controversy by posting on social media that LeBron should not win the MVP title. Rather, the sports analyst sees Curry as the real winner of the title.

I’M SORRY, NOW THERE’S NO WAY LEBRON IS MVP. IT HAS TO BE STEPH. 17 THREES IN THE SEMI AND THE FINAL. WE WOULD NOT HAVE WON EITHER WITHOUT HIM,” Bayless wrote in an X post.

Curry scored 24 points in the final game against France. With his outstanding shooting skills, the Warriors star hit eight three-pointers, three of which came in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. On the other hand, James contributed 14 points and 10 assists and shot an impressive 60% from the field.

NBA Fans Slam Skip Bayless for Criticizing LeBron James’ MVP Title

Skip Bayless’s unfiltered take drew the ire of NBA fans, who could not help but slam him for his unnecessary claim to LeBron James’ MVP title.

A pile of fans voiced their frustration over Bayless dragging James’ stat lines in the Olympics, which already proved his superiority over Stephen Curry. Curry was instrumental in Team USA’s win, but it could not surpass LeBron.

James, however, had an outstanding tournament, averaging 14.2 points, 8.5 assists, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. Although Curry led in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game, fans believe James’ all-around performance and leadership were more significant.

  • Caitlin Clark’s Comment After HUMILIATING Diana Taurasi Changes Everything in the WNBA

Caitlin Clark’s Comment After HUMILIATING Diana Taurasi Changes Everything in the WNBA

Caitlyn Clark: The WNBA’s New Phenomenon Redefining the Game

Caitlyn Clark isn’t just playing well; she’s fundamentally reshaping the landscape of the WNBA. Her recent performance is not only a testament to her skill but a clear indication that the league is becoming her playground. In a game against the Phoenix Mercury in Indianapolis, Clark delivered a jaw-dropping performance: 29 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds. This wasn’t just a standout stat line; it was a declaration of dominance.

Caitlin Clark Fans That Are Upset With WNBA Vets Need to Hear What She Just Said About Diana Taurasi | Glamour

Clark’s return from the Olympic break was nothing short of spectacular. Her 29-point, 10-assist, and 5-rebound effort wasn’t merely impressive; it was historic. It marked the Indiana Fever’s third win over the Mercury this season, a feat that had never before been achieved in franchise history. Clark’s impact is not just on the scoreboard but in the very history books of the Fever.

What solidified Clark’s claim to dominating the league was her reflection on the game. She noted how the Fever’s first win against the Mercury boosted their confidence, and it’s evident that she is driving this transformation. Clark is not merely adjusting to the WNBA; she is making the WNBA adapt to her.

However, Clark’s journey wasn’t always smooth. Starting the season as the number one draft pick came with immense expectations, and she faced the stark realities of the league—tough defenses, physical play, and seasoned veterans. Early on, Clark struggled to find her rhythm, facing criticism and making mistakes. Yet, her determination turned these challenges into fuel.

The turning point came with her first win against the Phoenix Mercury. This game was pivotal, marking the moment when the Clark who dominated college courts re-emerged, now with the poise and maturity of a professional. Since then, her rise has been meteoric. She’s breaking records, leading her team, and making plays that even veteran players find awe-inspiring.

What makes Clark’s recent game so remarkable is not just her numbers but the context in which they were achieved. Hitting 8 of 16 field goals, including 4 of 11 from beyond the arc, reflects a 50% shooting efficiency against one of the league’s top defenses. This level of performance is typically expected from seasoned veterans, not rookies. Moreover, her 10 assists highlight her ability to elevate the team’s overall performance, directly contributing to nearly half of the Fever’s points that night.

Why Caitlin Clark will earn in one year the same amount that Diana Taurasi has earned in her entire career? | Marca

Clark’s effectiveness is further demonstrated by her aggressive playstyle—drawing 10 free throw attempts and making 9. This indicates not only her offensive aggressiveness but also her mental toughness. Free throws, often a test of technique and mindset, showcase Clark’s dominance in both areas.

Returning from the Olympic break, many players struggle with rust, but Clark came back in peak form. Her performance against the Phoenix Mercury wasn’t just about the stats; it was about proving her readiness to compete at the highest level. The Mercury, being a formidable team, made this achievement even more significant.

As the Fever push towards the playoffs, Clark’s influence is unmistakable. Currently sitting in seventh place, the Fever have shown considerable improvement from last season. With Clark leading the charge, the team’s playoff prospects are not just hopeful—they’re highly probable. The Fever’s upcoming schedule is favorable, and with Clark’s continued excellence, they could climb higher in the standings.

Clark’s impact transcends numbers. She has instilled a winning mentality within the Fever. The team’s confidence is palpable—they’re not just playing to compete; they’re playing to win. However, there are areas that need improvement, particularly on defense. Coach Christy Sides must address these issues to ensure the team’s success in the playoffs. Moreover, Kelsey Mitchell’s strong performance, with 28 points in the last game, highlights a dynamic backcourt alongside Clark. This duo is now one of the most dangerous in the league.

The prospect of Clark and the Fever in the playoffs is thrilling. Clark’s ability to perform under pressure could make the difference between an early exit and a surprising run to the championship. Her play this season is laying the groundwork for future success, transforming the Fever from underdogs into serious contenders. This shift will likely attract more talent and generate greater fan interest, potentially heralding a new era of success for the franchise.

Reflecting on Clark’s journey, it’s incredible to witness her evolution from a highly anticipated rookie to a dominating force. Her performance is not just reshaping perceptions within the WNBA but also redefining what is possible for the Fever. With her rookie season already making waves, the future looks extraordinarily bright.

As the Fever continue their push toward the playoffs, every game becomes increasingly crucial. The pressure will mount, and every opponent will be strategizing to contain Clark. The journey ahead is fraught with challenges, and how Clark handles this pressure will be pivotal. Will the Fever’s playoff aspirations materialize into success? The coming months will provide the answers.

For now, Caitlyn Clark’s impact is undeniable. From her remarkable stats to her transformative effect on the Fever, she is indeed a force to be reckoned with. What do you find most impressive about Clark’s journey so far? Her phenomenal numbers, her leadership on the court, or her broader influence on the league? The former world number 1 has not yet won an ATP title this year and will have only the US Open to finish the season without having won even a Slam. The 37-year-old from Belgrade had a tough time in early 2024, but he made his dream come true by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics with an outstanding performance against Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion was considered a clear underdog on the eve of the match, but he showed his best in the most important moment. Novak has completed the puzzle, but he still doesn’t want to retire and is motivated to train hard to win other great titles.

Djokovic will be one of the main favorites for victory in New York if he plays at the same level expressed during the Olympics in Paris, but there are many opponents and they want to dethrone him at all costs. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will be the most formidable opponents at Flushing Meadows, not forgetting Medvedev and Zverev.

    Nole is very generous

The Serbian ace spent a few days in Montenegro before starting training again. In a recent interview, the Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajić revealed that Nole made him a promise: ”Novak is ready to provide us with free expert help in creating systemic support for sport in Montenegro. Through the development of new legal solutions, we finally want to support our young people in the right way and ensure that athletes have optimal working conditions. We will be much better prepared for the 2028 Olympic Games!” It’s not the first time that Novak has shown himself to be a very generous and kind person outside of the tennis court.

During the latest edition of his podcast, ATP legend Jimmy Connors reflected on Djokovic’s win in Paris: “Probably this gold medal is as important to him as his first Wimbledon or US Open because he’s done the others, you know, he’s won every Grand Slam and many other tournaments. But winning the gold medal, for him, it’s like the icing on the cake. Age is something that you can never beat and as much you try to fight it and as much as you try to figure out a way with your diet or with your training or whatever, numbers count in that.”

The former world number 1 has had the ability to continue working hard despite all the successes achieved during his career. Nole is a source of inspiration for young athletes in all sports. Recently, ATP legend Andre Agassi created his perfect player and he selected Djokovic’s mentality: “Without question, I go Novak. I mean, actually out of all the questions you asked, the serve and the mental is the clearest to define.

No, when Novak makes up his mind that he’s going to lock down, or when he makes up his mind that he’s sick and tired of this match being played on your terms, and he’s gonna go up a level — you see him use his speed defensively, locked down mentally, epically, and then you see him recognise when the tone of that match needs to to change. So somebody being able to recognise those nuances and intimacies is a beautiful thing and I don’t think anybody’s ever done it better than him.”

    Djokovic always finds new goals

Many fans and insiders are wondering what the next goals of Nole will be. The 37-year-old from Belgrade no longer seems interested in returning to number 1 in the world, in fact he missed the Masters 1000 in Montreal and Cincinnati to rest. Speaking with Tennis Majors a few days ago, Goran Ivanisevic paid tribute to the Serbian legend: “It’s incredible, it was written somewhere that it had to happen this way. It’s his first trophy this season, an Olympic gold. Besides, this scenario is the best, the sweetest. He had an injury, surgery, and a bad final at Wimbledon, but on Sunday, we saw what will and desire can make you do. When Novak plays as he can, he is the best in the world, no one can match him.”

Caitlin Clark’s Breakthrough: A New Era for the WNBA?

Indianapolis, August 17, 2024 — What transpired on the court in Indianapolis was nothing short of extraordinary. The Indiana Fever’s showdown against the Phoenix Mercury was not just another game; it was a seismic event that could alter the landscape of the WNBA. Caitlin Clark, the rookie sensation, demonstrated a performance that left no room for doubt: she is not merely a rising star; she is a game-changer.

What Caitlin Clark JUST DID NOW in Her Return Against Diana Taurasi Scared the WNBA

From the tip-off, it was evident that Clark was ready to seize the moment. Her performance was a dazzling display of skill, intensity, and sheer willpower. Clark finished the game with 29 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. Her shooting was exceptional, with four of eleven from beyond the arc. But numbers alone don’t capture the full story of her impact. Clark’s on-court presence and leadership were palpable, as she willed the Fever to a decisive victory over the Mercury, their third win against Phoenix this season — an unprecedented feat for the franchise.

A New Star in the Making

Clark’s performance wasn’t just about numbers; it was about setting a new standard. Facing off against WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, Clark didn’t just hold her own; she dominated. The Fever’s rookie sensation outplayed Taurasi in every aspect, from scoring to playmaking. Her ability to drain threes, combined with her impressive court vision and decision-making, left the Mercury scrambling for answers.

The Fever’s strategy was simple yet effective. They played with a level of intensity and confidence that caught Phoenix off guard. The Fever’s defense was relentless, making life difficult for Taurasi and her teammates. The game featured heated exchanges and moments of high drama, but Clark’s influence was the most significant factor in the outcome.

    The Fever’s Transformation

Diana Taurasi over Caitlin Clark 2024 Olympics pick angers WNBA fans

This game was not just a win; it was a statement. The Fever have transformed from a struggling team into a formidable playoff contender, and much of that is due to Clark’s impact. The team’s confidence, aggressiveness, and belief in their ability to compete with anyone can be directly traced back to Clark’s leadership. Her arrival has breathed new life into the franchise, turning what seemed like a lost season into a thrilling playoff push.

Kelsey Mitchell, another standout for the Fever, added 28 points to the mix, including six of thirteen from three-point range. The Clark-Mitchell duo proved to be an unstoppable force, further showcasing the Fever’s newfound potency. This win, combined with their previous victories against Phoenix, underscores a remarkable turnaround for a team that historically struggled against the Mercury.

    The Broader Implications

What’s at stake here extends beyond this single game. Caitlin Clark’s performance signals a potential shift in the WNBA’s power dynamics. She isn’t just another rookie; she’s a transformative talent. Her style of play — characterized by exceptional scoring ability and elite playmaking — is forcing teams to rethink their defensive strategies. The entire league is now on notice, and coaches are likely re-evaluating their game plans to contend with Clark’s remarkable skill set.

Clark’s influence is also reshaping the future of women’s basketball. Her ability to attract new fans and generate excitement around the league is unprecedented. We are witnessing the emergence of a superstar who could herald a new era for the WNBA. With Clark leading the Fever, the expectations are not just for playoff appearances but for championship aspirations. The pressure on Clark is immense, and while she has handled it with remarkable poise so far, the true test will come in the high-stakes environment of the playoffs.

    The Road Ahead

As the Fever continue their push for the playoffs, the question remains: can Clark maintain her level of performance under the intense scrutiny of the postseason? Can she lead her team to the ultimate prize, or will the pressure become too great? Moreover, how will the established stars of the WNBA, like Taurasi, respond to this new wave of talent? Will they adapt and elevate their game, or will they fight to maintain their place in the league’s hierarchy?

The next few weeks could very well determine the direction of the WNBA for years to come. Caitlin Clark’s impact is undeniable, and whether or not she will be able to sustain this level of excellence under playoff pressure remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain: the WNBA is entering a new chapter, and Caitlin Clark is poised to be at the forefront of this exciting evolution.

As fans, analysts, and enthusiasts, we are witnessing a pivotal moment in sports history. The future of the WNBA is unfolding before our eyes, and Caitlin Clark is leading the charge. This is more than just a breakthrough performance; it’s the dawn of a new era in women’s basketball.

“As much as Roger Federer is a great champion, he is also not a good man” – When Novak Djokovic’s father claimed that the Swiss “attacked” his son

Novak Djokovic’s father, Srdjan Djokovic, once claimed that Roger Federer “attacked” his son when he was a teenager.

Novak Djokovic’s father said that Roger Federer was not a good man

Srdjan told Serbia’s K1 TV in 2021 that Federer knew someone better than him was coming. He also said that while the Swiss was a great champion, he was not a good man.

“15 years ago he attacked my son when he was still young at 18-19 years old, he knew that someone better than him was coming. I said then that he was a great champion, the best at that time, but as much as he is a great champion, he is also not a good man,” Novak Djokovic’s father said.

The incident in question occurred during the 2006 Davis Cup, when Switzerland faced Serbia and Montenegro in the World Group play-off. At the time, Federer accused Djokovic of faking injuries during a match against Stan Wawrinka, calling him “a joke.”

“You know I don’t trust his injuries. I mean I’m serious, and I think that he’s a joke when he comes down to these injuries,” the Swiss said.

Federer faced Djokovic in that tie and won 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 as Switzerland went on to beat Serbia and Montenegro 4-1 to qualify for the World Group. However, they were eliminated in the first round by eventual semifinalists Australia.

While speaking to the media after his win, Novak Djokovic mentioned how the semifinals impeded him from his gold of winning and Olympic gold.

He then said how at the age of 37 against an in-form Carlos Alcaraz, who according to the Serb is probably the best player in the world, and taking everything else into account, this was likely the biggest sporting achievement of his career.

“Now at age 37 with 21-year-old (Alcaraz) that is probably the best player in the world right now winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back and playing incredible tennis, just when I take everything in consideration, this probably is the biggest sporting success I’ve ever had in my career.”

After losing 1000 ranking points in Cincinnati, Novak Djokovic is slated to play at the US Open next where he will kick off his run for a record 25th Grand Slam title.
