Celtics’ Jayson Tatum Talks NBA Legacy, Says Fans Don’t Appreciate His Accomplishments

After an eventful 2023-24 season that saw him win an NBA title and capture a gold medal as a member of Team USA, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum still feels like he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Speaking to Michael Lee of The Washington Post, Tatum said flat out “no” when asked if he feels appreciated for his accomplishments at this point in his career.

“If you took the name and the face away from all my accomplishments and you’re just like, ‘This is what this Player A accomplished at 26,’ people would talk about [me] a lot differently,” Tatum explained.

Tatum also spoke about how he doesn’t necessarily want to be inserted into the debate for the next face of the NBA whenever LeBron James retires because it’s an entirely subjective thing:

“I don’t really want to insert myself in things that can be debated. Did he win a championship? Yes. Did he win gold medals? Yes. Was he always a part of winning seasons? Was he first-team all-NBA? Those are things that you know are hard evidence. Yes or no. Face of the NBA? They can always debate. But it’s like, I check off all the boxes.”

Last summer was in many ways the crowning achievement of Tatum’s already-stellar career. He helped the Celtics win their NBA-record 18th championship in franchise history with a dominant Finals victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite the Celtics’ team success, Tatum didn’t win Finals MVP. That distinction went to Jaylen Brown, though it was a close 7-4 vote from the media.

Brown said during his on-court interview after the decisive Game 5 that he shared the honor with Tatum.

After the Finals, Tatum joined Team USA for the Olympics in Paris. His role on the team was the subject of intense debate because he didn’t play in two of the tournament games—both against Serbia—resulting in head coach Steve Kerr having to explain why he wasn’t on the court in the semifinal game against the Serbians:

“The hardest part of this job is you’re sitting at least a couple of guys who are world-class, some of the very best players on Earth, and on the one hand it makes no sense at all. On the other, I’m asking these guys to just commit to winning one game and then move on to the next one. I have to do the same thing. And so I felt like last night those were the combinations that made the most sense.”

Tatum played a total of 71 minutes in four Olympic games. His high-water mark was against Puerto Rico in the group phase when scored 10 points.

The Celtics had no concerns about Tatum’s summer, as they rewarded him with a five-year, $313.9 million contract extension that is the richest contract in NBA history.

Since being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, Tatum has been one of the most reliable star players in the league. He’s made the All-Star team in six consecutive years, finished top six in MVP voting in each of the previous three years and is on pace for his fifth consecutive season averaging at least 25 points and seven rebounds per game.

The Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals six times in Tatum’s first seven seasons, not including this season. They currently have the third-best record in the NBA at 41-16.

The photo dump included pictures of the couple in Paris, their LEGO-inspired Halloween costumes and a photo of Timberlake holding one of his baby boys.

Also on Jan. 31, Timberlake posted a video of him laughing as he walked through the front door of his home — which was heavily decorated with balloons and colorful lights.

There were also three life-sized cutouts of his wife located throughout the home.

Biel and Timberlake are ‘committed’ to staying married

The birthday post comes seven months after Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, NY, according to People.

In October, a source close to the family told People that Biel was “not happy” about the arrest, but was “relieved” to put the incident in the rear view mirror.

“They’ve been married for a long time,” the source added. “They have to work on their marriage like most couples. Being working parents is never easy.”

People also reported that Timberlake has “done everything he can” to make amends with Biel following the arrest.

“They are both committed to staying married,” the source continued. “Jess thinks he’s a wonderful dad. They’re a great team.”

New details are emerging from the settlement Britney Spears reached with her father, Jamie Spears, last year over a legal dispute regarding her conservatorship.

In November 2021, an L.A. County judge terminated Britney’s 13-year-long conservatorship, which had given her estranged father Jamie control of his pop star daughter’s personal and financial affairs.

At the time, Britney’s former attorney Mathew S. Rosengart had objected to her paying any of her father’s legal fees. In court documents filed by Rosengart on Jan. 14, 2022 — and obtained by PEOPLE — Jamie was accused of paying himself over $6 million throughout the conservatorship, surveilling his daughter and committing financial misconduct while he was a conservator. (Jamie has denied any wrongdoing.) The “Work Bitch” singer, 43, and her father, 72, eventually settled the legal battle on April 25, 2024.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court filings made by both parties in Los Angeles Superior Court last year. Now, PEOPLE can exclusively confirm the details of the settlement, nearly one year after they were agreed upon on Feb. 24, 2024.

PEOPLE has learned that Britney agreed to pay Jamie’s outstanding legal bills totaling $2.12 million: First, to the Saul Ewing firm for $500,000, deposited into the company’s U.S. Bank account (Hal Morris, the general counsel at the firm, signed the contract); then, to Willkie Farr & Gallagher for $1.62 million, transferred into their Citibank account (partner Alex M. Weingarten signed). She had 60 days to pay both fees in full, or she’d accrue further costs of court and attorney fees, even post-judgement interest. Jamie’s previous attorneys, Vivian L. Thoreen, a partner at Holland & Knight, received no further payments.

PEOPLE confirms Britney paid both legal fees in full within 60 days, as required by the agreement.

The parties who entered into the contract — including Britney and her father — agreed that the payments resolved all disputes in connection with the conservatorship proceedings. The agreement states that no parties concede any admission of fact, claim, liability or wrongdoing. All parties, through their counsel, mutually participated in the preparation and drafting of the agreement. They waived the rights to an appeal.

“It was a great result for Britney because it also avoided the possibility of ever having her testify in court, which she did not want to do, and avoided a media circus,” a source tells PEOPLE of the settlement.

A rep for Britney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Rosengart, Britney’s former attorney, could not be reached for comment.

“Jamie is thrilled that the case was settled,” Weingarten, Jamie’s attorney, told PEOPLE in a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday, Feb. 20. “He has only ever wanted what is best for Britney, whom he loves very much. Jamie’s work as conservator has ultimately been vindicated and the world knows how hard he worked to protect her.”

After the settlement was finalized last year, Rosengart told PEOPLE in a statement: “Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete. As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter. Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored.”

Recently, Britney reunited with Rosengart and shared an Instagram video of their meeting at his office on Feb. 17.

“It’s been way too long since I’ve seen him !!! OMG OMG OMG !!! It was such an incredible day !!! I am blessed and got a book. He showed me up with his suit!!! I will be in heels next time,” Spears captioned the post. “PS – I thought they were taking pictures but it was on Video. Such a winner.”

Last June, Rosengart reflected on his time working with Britney, telling PEOPLE in a statement: “I was honored to work with and protect Britney, who is and will always be an icon, and most specifically, to have helped restore the fundamental rights and civil liberties that were stripped from her, which was always our focus.”

Brown and Bongiovi’s premiere outing comes just one day after they attended the 2025 SAG Awards on Sunday, Feb. 23. While Bongiovi, who is the son of famed singer Jon Bon Jovi, didn’t walk the red carpet with his wife ahead of the ceremony, the model did join her inside the theater for the show.

During an October 2024 appearance at New York Comic Con, Brown’s costar, Pratt, revealed that Bongiovi was a frequent visitor to The Electric State set during the filming of directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s latest movie.

The Chiefs’ loss prevented them from completing the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat. But they became just the fourth team in history to reach four straight big games, joining the 1971-73 Miami Dolphins, 1990-93 Buffalo Bills and 2016-18 New England Patriots.

Given that they’re going on year 12, MJ would have to dish out $60 million for a divorce in 2025. But that would still be a lot cheaper than what his first divorce cost him.

“Under the terms of the prenuptial agreement, his wife will get $1 million for each year they remain married, but if they stay married for more than ten years then she will receive the tidy sum of $5 million per year of marriage. In Jordan’s previous divorce he ended up paying his wife approximately $168 million, as well as giving her custody of their three children. She also got to keep the marital home, a sprawling 25,000 square foot estate in Chicago.”

The $168 million Jordan paid his ex-wife, Juanita Jordan, in 2006 marked the largest celebrity divorce settlement at the time. He would have to be married to Yvette for another 20 years to risk getting close to that sum.

Jordan could well afford to settle with Yvette as he’s become a billionaire since retiring from basketball, yet that hardly means he’d want to hand over more than $60 million. That’s a lot of money, no matter how rich you are.
