Taylor Swift continued to assert her dominance by topping the Billboard Hot 200 chart for the 15th consecutive week with her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The 34-year-old pop star successfully moved another 85K equivalent album units in the States of the album (13K more than newcomer Chappell Roan), so she would’ve still been number one even if she sold zero digital album downloads this past week – according to Billboard.

Some in the industry had criticized Taylor for ‘blocking’ her rivals by continuously dropping new digital variants and live versions of TTPD, which amassed yet another 10K downloads this week.

‘The Tortured Poets Department [is] an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure,’ Swift – who boasts 551.3M social media followers – wrote in April.

‘This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.

‘This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.’

The Pennsylvania-born hitmaker is currently enjoying a much-needed break from her $1.039B-grossing, 149-date The Eras Tour, which doesn’t resume until October 18–20 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.

Taylor will next compete for 10 Moonperson trophies – including artist of the year – at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be broadcast September 10 from the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.

Swift has just two more archival albums (Taylor Swift and Reputation) to re-record after losing the rights to the first six of her master recordings by her underhanded ex-manager Scooter Braun, who’s since retired from the music industry.

On the personal front, the Emmy-winning producer and three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce celebrated their first anniversary of dating last month.

On Monday, Aug. 19, the Queen of Pop, 66, shared a variety of photos to her Instagram from her son Rocco’s 24th birthday celebration in Italy. The mother-son duo can be seen posing together in matching floral ‘fits with a giant birthday cake next to them reading “Happy Birthday Rocco.”

The whole family joined in on the celebration. In one photo, the mom of six squeezes her 11-year-old twin daughters Stella and Estere tight with her arms around them.

Madonna shares her oldest daughter Lourdes with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon, and welcomed Rocco in 1998 with Guy Ritchie. She and Ritchie then adopted David at age 1 in 2005. Following her divorce from Ritchie, Madonna welcomed Mercy as a single mother in 2009, just three years before adopting her twin girls when they were 5 years old in 2012.

Lots of championship hardware was at Busch Stadium on Sunday, but it wasn’t because of the St. Louis Cardinals.

“The Lou’s” MLB franchise hasn’t won a World Series since 2011 (sorry to rub it in, Cardinals fans). But two of the city’s natives more than made up for its lack of baseball titles, and brought their trophies to the ballpark today.

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk and Boston Celtics guard Jayson Tatum both grew up in St. Louis, and each one of them won the title in their respective sports less than two months ago (Tkachuk in the NHL, Tatum in the NBA). To celebrate with their home city, Tatum brought the Larry O’Brien trophy, while Tkachuk brought a heavyweight belt with the Stanley Cup logo on the front.

(Bringing the actual Stanley Cup somewhere that isn’t on your day with the cup is nearly impossible).

But before the championship festivities got underway, they had a far more important matter to attend to.

As the Celtics and Panthers made their way through their respective postseasons earlier this summer, a viral picture of the two from middle school circulated on the internet. So while they were in literally the same spot, they posed again for the same picture.

To make Part 2 even better, they got their friend Jacob Bai to join in to complete the photo op.

They rode out on the back of a truck to the delight of the crowd, and even threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the same time (Tatum’s was better).

I’d say that was a pretty successful day for all involved. The only problem was that the Cardinals lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1.

Brad Stevens served as the head coach of the Boston Celtics for eight seasons, from the 2013-14 season through the 2020-21 campaign. During that time, he led the Celtics to seven playoff appearances and three appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, while the Celtics consistently made deep runs in the playoffs under Stevens, Boston was never able to get over the hump and win a title with the 47-year-old leading the team from the sidelines.

But that all changed when Stevens’ role with the Celtics switched from being the squad’s head coach to its president of basketball operations ahead of the 2021-22 season. He replaced Danny Ainge, who stepped down from the position after nearly two decades.

In his three seasons in his current role, the franchise has won one title and reached the NBA Finals twice.

But despite all the success that the Celtics have enjoyed with Stevens as the team’s president of basketball operations, he admitted that the job isn’t without its challenges. More specifically, he cited his biggest challenge in making the jump from a head coach to an executive.

“The front office has been so solid and been there a while, and we’ve all been there together,” Stevens told the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach. “So that’s really helped. The things I’m not as good at, we have so many people that are really good at. So it’s been a really fun place to be, a fun place to work. I’ve been thrilled to watch some of our coaches get opportunities elsewhere and been thrilled for our team and our coaches and front office that have put in so much time to get to taste a championship run this year.

“But it never stops. People ask me what the difference is. When you’re a coach you’re on an eight-month sprint and you’re in charge of leading the team or navigating the team and then you’re in charge of your staff. In this job it’s much more of a 12-month job with the cadence of the entire basketball operations. The roster building is such a small part of it that I probably would have underestimated that. I’d say it’s 10 percent of the job, if that, and that’s all anybody talks about.”

Stevens was named the 2023-24 Executive of the Year after Boston finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA at 64-18. In the 2023 offseason, Stevens orchestrated trades that landed Boston Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.

Jeff Teague sends Jayson Tatum warning to NBA after Olympic disrespect

 

Former NBA star Jeff Teague recently expressed his thoughts on Jayson Tatum getting snubbed in the 2024 Olympics. Tatum won his second gold medal in the Olympics after winning his first-ever NBA championship. While on paper his recent achievements are nothing short of legendary, the situation wasn’t necessarily a bed of roses. Despite getting selected to play for Team USA over his Boston Celtics teammate Jaylen Brown, who won the NBA Finals MVP, Tatum barely had minutes.

Teague pointed out in his podcast (Club 520 Podcast) that Team USA indirectly made Tatum feel like the worst player on the team. This was due to his lack of playing time throughout the Olympics. Teague also noted that Tatum was the only player on the national roster to make the First Team All-NBA. This proved how disrespectfully Team USA treated the Celtics champion.

“Jayson Tatum, oh he’s done with the Olympics,” Teague said. “He’s never gonna play again. … [Team USA] already told Jaylen Brown he wasn’t elite, so he’s already on a revenge tour right? They gonna come out on bulls**t. And now [Team USA] is telling Jayson Tatum he’s the worst player out of all the elites, pretty much. All the top players in the league on the Olympic team [Team USA] telling [Tatum] he’s the worst one? … Only one on the roster this year to make First Team All-NBA.”

Despite recently winning the 2024 NBA championship, Jayson Tatum barely played any minutes in the 2024 Olympics. To add insult to injury, his Boston Celtics teammate Derrick White, who isn’t even an All-Star, played more minutes than him. This led to a backlash among fans and analysts alike.

During Team USA’s exhibition games, it seemed like Tatum was going to play a pivotal role for the team. However, come the group phase matchup against Serbia in Paris, the newly crowned champion didn’t see any playing time. Meanwhile, his buddy White played 16 minutes in the Paris opener. It was an eye-opening decision, nevertheless, the Americans pulled off a victory.

Come the next three games against South Soudan, Puerto Rico, and Brazil, Tatum finally had a role to play. Unfortunately, his role wasn’t as big as everyone was expecting. Throughout those three games, Tatum averaged 6.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His most prominent role was against Puerto Rico when he notched a double-double outing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Even then Jayson’s role seemed small.

Then come the rematch between Team USA and Serbia, head coach Steve Kerr decided to leave Tatum on the bench again. These actions likely indicated that the team thought Jayson could be a liability against stronger opponents. Tatum also barely played in the gold medal game against France clocking in only 11 minutes on the hardwood. Nevertheless, Tatum can now call himself a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Travis Kelce isn’t planning on hanging up his jersey anytime soon, but the Chiefs player knows he wants to call time on his career on his ‘own terms.’

‘I get excitement out of catching a ball, splitting a bunch of defenders and getting a huge first down when nobody expected me to do it. Or I scored a huge touchdown in a playoff game in the fourth quarter when the team needed it the most.’

‘The moment that I can’t do that, and I’m playing it at an average or a less of a successful level than I am right now, I think that’s when I’m probably going to call it quits.’

His comments came one week after addressing his retirement while speaking to reporters at the Chiefs’ minicamp.

‘I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there’s opportunities outside of football for me. I think you’ve gotta keep in perspective that I’m a little kid when I come in this building,’ he said earlier this month.

‘I’m gonna do it until the wheels fall off. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen anytime soon. I can definitely understand that it’s toward the end of the road than the beginning of it. I just gotta make sure I’m set up for after football as well.’

Meanwhile, Travis’ teammate Chris Jones insisted he has ‘four or five more years’ left in him.

‘We can’t let TK go,’ the defensive tackle added.
