BOSTON — Christmas is almost here, and Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla wanted to spread some holiday cheer in his own way on Thursday night following a 117-108 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

After the Celtics trailed by nine points with 7:41 remaining in the fourth quarter, they rattled off a 6-0 run to make it a one-possession game with under six minutes to play. However, shortly after the C’s made it 99-96, Mazzulla stepped on the court to argue with official Justin Van Duyne. Boston’s skipper then received a technical foul and since reigning NBA Finals MVP and Celtics star Jaylen Brown didn’t agree with the call, he let Van Dunye know about it and generated another technical foul.

Those two whistles gifted Bulls star Zach LaVine two points via technical free throws, pushing Chicago’s lead to five points. The Bulls never looked back, as they closed out the game with relative ease and handed the Green Team their largest loss of the season.

Before everybody returned to the locker room, Mazzulla offered the referees a fiery goodbye.

Yet, Mazzulla claimed that his parting words were actually festive.

“I just hadn’t seen them in a while, so just a Merry Christmas, a happy holiday,” Mazzulla joked when asked what his postgame message to the officials was. “I wasn’t sure I was going to see them before the holiday.”

The New England native will likely be fined for pursuing the refs. The league might lighten Brown’s pockets as well for the second time this season for bashing the late-game officiating, which featured three technical fouls against the Celtics in a two-minute span in the fourth quarter.

“Joe didn’t say anything to deserve a tech,” Brown argued. “I come and shake all the refs’ hands because I speak for my team. I’m allowed to talk. So when I tell [Van Duyne] you called a tech for no reason and you say, ‘If you say it again, I’m calling another tech,’ then I say it again and you call a tech, you just threatened your whistle as a threat. Like, that’s not a part of the game either and it’s bull****.”

The Celtics’ tempers might have flared more than usual on Thursday because their shots weren’t falling. They failed to connect on 42 of their 56 attempts from 3-point land while the Bulls hit 19 of their 52 shots from deep. Boston’s 42 failed 3-pointers tied an unfortunate franchise record that was set during its previous loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 7.

On average, the Celtics shoot a league-leading 51 triples per game, so misses are bound to happen. Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who hit four of his 11 attempts beyond the arc, can live with this reality.

“We played our normal game tonight,” he commented in his postgame press conference. “We just didn’t shoot the ball nearly as well as we normally do.”

The Green Team couldn’t overcome loads of 3-point misfires and LaVine’s 36-point performance. And while the refs weren’t necessarily Boston’s downfall, Tatum wasn’t a fan of how a few whistles impacted the contest down the stretch.

“It was just tough. The segment Justin had kind of changed that [part] of the game. You don’t necessarily love that,” he stated. “You want the players to play and dictate the game like that. But, 82 games—sh** happens.”

Tatum and Brown combined for 50 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists on the night. Their contributions weren’t enough to prevent the Celtics from dropping to 21-6 on the season and falling two games behind the first-place Cleveland Cavaliers.

They won’t have to wait long for revenge, though. The C’s meet the Bulls again on Saturday evening in the Windy City. The two Eastern Conference foes will then square off one last time in the regular season in late January.

In the weeks leading up to Murphy’s death, she was very ill and experiencing flu-like symptoms, a coroner spokesperson told PEOPLE. This sickness, left untreated, eventually developed into pneumonia which then-deputy medical examiner Dr. Lisa Scheinin described as “severe” in the 2021 HBO docuseries What Happened, Brittany Murphy?, adding that Murphy was probably “walking around with this for some time.”

“If she had gotten to a hospital early enough, you can detect pneumonia on the chest X-ray. It’s very easy to do,” the former medical examiner said. “They could have possibly started treatment. But she would’ve had a chance.”

Dr. Scheinin performed Murphy’s autopsy and listed pneumonia as the Uptown Girls star’s primary cause of death, with iron-deficiency anemia and “multiple drug intoxication” from prescription and over-the-counter medication as contributing factors.

Monjack had previously told PEOPLE that Murphy was using “herbal remedies” for her symptoms, which they believed to be from laryngitis at the time.

“The anemia in itself would have been fatal, even without the pneumonia,” Dr. Scheinin said in the docuseries. “The pneumonia was fatal, and then you’re adding this to the equation. This could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.”

Jon Bon Jovi’s wife Dorothea is opening up about the early days of their romance as they celebrate their 34th year as a married couple.

The high-school sweethearts made a surprise appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, where Dorothea, 60, told host Howard Stern about their recent celebration.

“We just had our 34th anniversary, Howard,” she said, to which Stern congratulated the longtime couple and asked how Bon Jovi, 61, had treated his wife on their special day.

“What did Jon do for your 34th anniversary — what was it? Besides, of course, making love to you that night. Did Jon take you in his arms and bring you to the bedroom on that night?” asked Stern, 69.

“Always, Howard,” Dorothea cheekily replied.

The radio host then went on to joke that the couple only “make love” to songs by Bon Jovi, to which Dorothea said, “Howard, I told you that in the strictest of confidences!”

Dorothea also opened up about the early days of her romance with the musician, whom she famously met and began dating during high school.

Stern asked about Bon Jovi’s status at the time, to which Dorothea replied he was “100%” the cutest guy in school.

Even then, in the early 1980s, he was rocking his signature look, she added: “Yeah, he was a rock star.”

Dorothea said that, while she and her friends “knew he played in a band,” they weren’t all that impressed by Bon Jovi’s extracurricular activities — that is, until she heard him perform for herself.

“I just remember being impressed that you could sing,” she told her husband.

“Was he good?” Stern asked, to which Dorothea replied, “He was very good.”

Despite his impressive talents even then, Dorothea’s friends and family weren’t exactly convinced of the two’s pairing.

“That was the family’s response,” Bon Jovi said as Stern joked that the idea of marrying a wannabe singer wasn’t exactly a stable choice at the time.

Dorothea added, “That was everybody’s response. And I remember somebody told me a story and then I said, ‘Well, my boyfriend’s gonna be a rock star,’ and they were like, ‘Good luck with that.’ “

Bon Jovi’s surprise cameo on Stern’s radio show marked his second appearance on a SiriusXM show this week. On Tuesday, he called in to Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy and opened up about his son Jake Bongiovi’s recent engagement to Millie Bobby Brown.

“I don’t know if age matters, if you find the right partner and you grow together,” Bon Jovi replied when Cohen, 54, asked if the musician worries his child is too young for marriage.

As someone who got married young and wed his own longtime high-school girlfriend, the singer said he wasn’t concerned.

“That would be my advice, really,” he said. “Growing together is wise. I think that all of my kids have found people that they think they can grow together with and we like them all.”

Along with Jake, 20, Bon Jovi and Dorothea also share daughter Stephanie, 29, plus sons Jesse, 28, and Romeo, 19.

The singer then shared that he’s “of course” seen Stranger Things, the show that launched Brown’s career in 2016, before praising the young actress.

“Millie is wonderful. Her whole family are great,” Bon Jovi said of his son’s fiancée. “Jake is very, very happy.”

The two began dating in 2021 and have been notoriously public with their romance and their mutual adoration for each other.

In a New Year’s Day post, Brown, 19, called Jake her “partner for life” as she reflected on 2022 and its ups and downs.

“Here’s to another year with you and the wonderful people and animals around us 🤍 let’s do it again but better!” the actress wrote on Instagram.

Richie Sambora missed Jon Bon Joni’s 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony on Friday for one important reason — his mom.

A source tells PEOPLE that Sambora’s 89-year-old mother “tripped on her carpet,” causing her to fall and break her hip last week. According to the source, Sambora, 64, has been caring for her in his home state of New Jersey.

“She’s been in rehab and recovering, and he went through the whole house and renovated it. He bought her smaller furniture to make it easier for her,” the source tells PEOPLE.

“She didn’t want to stay in the hospital, so he got her 24-hour care. He’s an only child and a devoted son,” the source adds. “They’re first-generation immigrants, so family is very important to him.”

On Friday, Bon Jovi, 61, was honored for his philanthropic work with the JBJ Soul Foundation. The Recording Academy’s philanthropic organization celebrated his efforts with a gala that included a cocktail reception, dinner, and performances from artists playing tribute to the rocker.

Fans can expect the Jon Bon Jovi frontman and his former bandmate to recall their rise to stardom in the upcoming four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, set to premiere on Hulu on April 26.

“The series relives the triumphs and setbacks, greatest hits, biggest disappointments, and most public moments of friction,” a project description reads.

Along with 40 years’ worth of personal videos, the docuseries will feature unreleased demos, original lyrics, and “never-before-seen photos that chronicle the journey from Jersey Shore clubs to the biggest stages on the planet.”

News of a docuseries comes years after Sambora decided to leave the band in 2013. Bon Jovi told PEOPLE in 2016 that it had been a while since they last spoke.

“The same place it stood three and a half years ago,” he said when asked where their relationship stood. “Nobody has spoken to him. I’m never going to badmouth the guy. He’s a wonderful friend, wonderful collaborator.”

“It wasn’t a popular decision by any means, obviously, but there was really almost no choice about it. I had a lot of conscious work to do around [my personal life]. We’ve been through a lot of things together. That was a time of psychological maintenance for the family. You know, I ain’t no angel. But I realized Ava needed me to be around at that point in time,” he told PEOPLE. “Family had to come first, and that’s what happened.”

Sambora hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a reunion, however. He told PEOPLE in November 2023 that it “definitely could happen.”

“It’s just a question of when everybody’s ready to go do it. It will be a big, massive kind of undertaking,” he told PEOPLE.
