Heartfelt Farewell: Roger Daltrey, Jon Bon Jovi, Sammy Hagar, and More Honor the Legendary “Soul Man” Sam Moore in Emotional Tributes

The music world is mourning the loss of Sam Moore of the legendary soul duo Sam & Dave, who died on Friday, January 13, at age 89 from complications experienced during a medical procedure.

Moore is best-known for some of the classic soul hits he recorded during the late 1960s as half of the duo Sam & Dave, along with Dave Prater, including “Soul Man” and “I Thank You.” After Sam & Dave split in 1981, Moore continued to perform and record, working with a wide variety of other music stars over the years. Moore was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Sam & Dave in 1992.

Sam’s powerful and emotive voice greatly influenced and inspired plenty of other well-known music artists. Here are a few of the tributes that have been pouring in from other famous singers:

    The Who’s Roger Daltrey

Who frontman Roger Daltrey paid homage to Moore in a note that was posted on the band’s official website and social media pages.

“When I think back to my teenage years and the sounds of the records which would eventually shape my life to come, Sam Moore’s voice still rings fresh in my ears,” Daltrey wrote. “His pure soul voice was inspirational to me. Thank you, Sam for the great music.”

    Jon Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi posted two photos on his socials of him performing with Moore, along with a message sharing his admiration for the singer. He also revealed that a milestone his and his wife’s relationship involved Moore.

“Sam Moore, the Soulman, one of the pioneers and greatest singers ever has left us,” Jon wrote. “I’m not saddened as much as I felt incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to be in his presence.”

He continued, “Having had the opportunity to perform and even record with Sam was humbling and an honor … But knowing that I convinced Dorothea to come on what was our first date to see Sam and Dave [i]n the spring of 1980 at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park was one of my fondest memories.”

Bon Jovi concluded, “Sending my luv to his wonderful wife Joyce … And imagining that heaven sounds a little better with the voice of an Angel. Much luv Soulman.”

Incidentally, Jon was one of the guest singers on Moore’s star-studded 2006 solo album, Overnight Sensational. The two vocalists recorded a duet version of “Lookin’ for a Love,” a R&B hit that was a The Valentinos, Bobby Womack and The J. Geils Band.

    Paul Rodgers

Another well-known singer featured on the Overnight Sensational album was Paul Rodgers, of Free and Bad Company fame. Interestingly, Rodgers teamed up with Moore on a rendition of the 1992 Garth Brooks song “We Shall Be Free.”

Paul posted a photo on his social media pages of him and Sam together, along with a heartfelt message.

“We are shocked!” Rogers wrote. “You were beautiful, so full of life and energy, so giving and loving. As a one of a kind singer and as a man you taught me so much. You have left an imprint on our hearts permanently. Brother, I will miss you until we meet again in heaven. Joyce and family we stand with you in tears, our condolences and love.”

Rodgers also included a cover of “I Thank You” on his 2014 solo album, The Royal Sessions. The album featured Paul’s renditions of various soul, R&B, and blues tunes recorded at the famed Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee.

    Sammy Hagar

Sammy Hagar posted a tribute to Moore on his socials while also acknowledging the plight of those affected by the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The Red Rocker also shared a video of him and Sam rehearsing a version pf “Soul Man” for the Keep Memory Alive charity’s 2023 Power of Love benefit concert in Las Vegas.

“I know there’s so much heartbreak and devastation going on in southern California right now, but I have to share the passing of @legendarysammoore,” Sammy wrote. “The original soul man has left us to join his many brothers and sisters in the afterlife.”

Hagar then commented about the video he posted, “This once in a lifetime experience [I] had rehearsing in Las Vegas for the wonderful [Keep Memory Alive] event is one of the highlights of my musical collaborations. Here in his mid 80s that voice, that voice, that voice. [R]est in peace, soul, brother. Love and prayers to Joyce and the family.”

    Steven Van Zandt

E Street Band guitarist “Little Steven” Van Zandt also paid homage to Moore on his social media pages.

“RIP Sam Moore. One of the last of the great Soul Men,” Van Zandt wrote. “Him and Dave Prater were the inspiration for me and Johnny [Lyon] to start Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. An important righteous wonderful man,”

Justin Timberlake is speaking out about the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

During his Saturday, Jan. 18 concert at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., Timberlake paused the Forget Tomorrow World Tour stop to call attention to the fires that continue to burn in L.A.

While on stage at the venue, about 30 miles away from the ongoing blazes, the “Cry Me a River” singer commended the efforts of those fighting the fires and helping others cope in the aftermath.

“I want to take a moment to recognize what’s going on in L.A. I want to give a shout-out to the first responders, firefighters, citizens of the community, all that you gave,” Timberlake said.

He continued, “I’m sure so many of us in this room know someone, or is related to someone, or has heard about someone so close to us being affected by this devastating incident. And so many of us onstage either live there and in the crew know people who live there, and we just came from there, and it truly is devastating.”

Despite the nature of the tragedy that continues to unfold, Timberlake called attention to the silver linings — how in times of crisis, people from all walks of life find a way to come together to help others.

“I just wanted to recognize how beautiful it is, how well everyone has responded in that area,” he concluded. “And I just wanted to say: Keep your thoughts and prayers with L.A. Donate if you can — if you can — but thoughts and prayers with L.A. Thank you so much, Anaheim.”

Timberlake’s tour began on April 29 in Vancouver, following the release of his album, Everything I Thought It Was, in March. His next stop will take him further from the L.A. fires to Palm Desert, Calif. on Monday, Jan. 20.

The wildfires began in L.A. on Jan. 7, following “red flag” warnings for high winds and dry weather, and has since been dubbed the most destructive firestorm in the city’s history.

The two major fires, the Eaton and Palisades fires, are at 73% and 59% containment as of Monday afternoon. Thousands have lost their homes, and tens of thousands remain under evacuation orders.

Fans are all saying the same thing as Brittany Mahomes gives husband Patrick a good luck kiss at Chiefs playoffs game less than a week after giving birth

Love is in the air — and on the football field.

Freshly postpartum Brittany Mahomes was spotted giving Patrick Mahomes good luck kisses shortly before kickoff at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

“Love you! Good luck. Love you!” Brittany, 29, sweetly told her star quarterback husband, also 29, with some smooches in between.

The high school sweethearts welcomed their third child — and second daughter — into their family on Jan. 12, meaning Brittany was back in action supporting her man from the sidelines just six days after giving birth.

Their new daughter, Golden Raye, is now the younger sibling of sister Sterling, 3, and brother Bronze, 2.

Golden was born during a bye week for the Chiefs, meaning Patrick could be present for her birth.

“It was cool that we got the bye [week] just because you can kind of really focus in on just being at the hospital, being in the moment,” the three-time Super Bowl champion gushed during a press conference on Tuesday.

“It’s a special moment that a lot of dads and moms experience. And you don’t forget that stuff.”

He also praised Brittany, saying she “crushed it” during delivery, and said it was “fun” to see his other two kids become older siblings.

And even though Patrick previously said he was “done” having kids, he admitted he would “maybe” have a fourth.

“We’ll stick there for a while and see if we need to come back and get another one later on,” he explained.

In the meantime, newborn Golden has a lot of love around her — including from Taylor Swift.

Page Six learned the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker, 35, is “looking forward to meeting” the little one and gifted her a handmade blanket.

“[It’s] something she loves doing and something that can’t be bought. It comes from the heart,” a source told us.

Patrick Mahomes is riding high these days, balancing a personal and professional life that seems to be going just right. Not only did he recently welcome his third child into the world, but his Kansas City Chiefs are also in a great spot, securing a 23-14 victory that pushed them into the AFC title game once again. Despite being outgained by over 100 yards, Mahomes and his team managed to hold it together when it mattered most.

But there’s one part of Mahomes’ job he can’t escape: the press conference. After every game, the star quarterback steps into the room to face the media and share his thoughts. This time, though, he had more than just the game on his mind. An unexpected interruption made focusing on his answers a little trickier than usual.

An unexpected distraction steals the spotlight

As it turns out, the interruption came from none other than Mahomes’ son, Bronze. The little guy couldn’t resist making his presence known during his dad’s time in the spotlight. While Patrick was speaking to the press, Bronze chimed in, chatting away with an adorable sense of curiosity. In a moment that had everyone smiling, Patrick lost his cool-in the most charming way possible.

Brittany Mahomes, who had recently given birth to their daughter Golden Raye, was looking absolutely stunning, but you could tell she had little energy left to deal with the relentless antics of Bronze. Patrick eventually had to step in, gently scolding his son with a smile. It was a moment that reminded everyone that Mahomes is not just a superstar quarterback, but a hands-on dad trying to juggle it all.

    A hands-on dad in action

Bronze has always been the one with the mischievous streak, and Brittany has been all too happy to share his playful side with her followers on Instagram. The little guy is known for his funny, rebellious attitude and his adorable antics. But no matter how much trouble he gets into, it’s clear that Brittany has a soft spot for her son. You can see it in every photo and video she posts-he’s clearly her favorite little boy, even when he’s driving her crazy.

Throughout it all, Patrick and Brittany continue to prove that family is their top priority. They juggle the demands of high-profile careers with the joy and responsibility of raising their kids, always keeping their well-being at the forefront. Whether it’s football games or family moments, the Mahomes family has found a perfect balance that works for them, showing that being great parents and professionals can go hand in hand

Brittany Mahomes stunned fans with a surprise appearance at her husband Patrick’s postgame press conference just six days after the couple welcomed their third child.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs kept their Super Bowl three-peat hopes alive with a 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans in the NFL Divisional Round Saturday.

As the Chiefs kickstarted their latest playoff campaign, Brittany was there to support her husband, despite giving birth to their third child and second daughter Golden Raye just last Sunday.

Mere days after giving birth, the mother-of-three made sure she had a front row seat as the quarterback fielded questions from the media following the victory.

In clips shared to social media, the former soccer player was spotted sat on the floor with her two eldest children – Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2, – while Mahomes spoke from the podium.

And many fans on social media were left amazed at Brittany’s ability to juggle cheerleading duties as a new mom.

The Chiefs WAG could be seen giving her husband a kiss and wishing him luck as he resumed his bid for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl this season.

The couple had announced last July that they were expecting another child together.

Six months later Brittany confirmed that she brought Golden Raye into the world on Sunday January 12.

In an Instagram post on Monday, she shared a photo of her and Patrick’s hands resting above Golden Raye’s feet, which were placed just in front of a sign with her name on it.

The 29-year-old Patrick had said on Christmas Day that Brittany was due to give birth imminently and joked that he hoped it was during his team’s bye week before the NFL playoffs.

Speaking after his team beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 25, a win that gave his team an extra week off before the playoffs, Mahomes said: ‘I told my pregnant wife I was gonna get her the number one seed so we can go have that baby. So we got that number one seed.’

Born September 18, 1961, James Gandolfini was best known as the affable Tony Soprano, the Mafia crime boss, and the family patriarch in HBO’s The Sopranos.

Sometimes sensitive, other times sociopathic, Gandolfini’s landmark performance of the flawed gangster earned him numerous awards and international acclaim.

Speaking of the lovable but brutal Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini told Vogue: “I am playing an Italian lunatic from New Jersey, and that’s basically what I am.”

After a hugely successful six-season run, the series ended in 2007, leaving fans wondering if the blacked-out screen in the end meant the antihero is alive, or dead.

    Tragedy in Rome

But, along with the legendary actor, the elder Soprano died on June 19, 2013, after a heart attack claimed the life of the beloved 51-year-old star.

The Jersey-born man was travelling with his family in Italy and was in the hotel with his then 13-year-old son Michael when he had a heart attack and died.

Gandolfini left behind his wife Deborah Lin, who he married in 2008, daughter Liliane (born 2012), and Michael, who he shares with first wife, Marcy Wudarski.

Almost 10 years later, Michael landed the biggest role of his life, playing the role of a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark.

In September 2021, Michael spoke with the New York Times about capturing the complexity of the character his father so effortlessly played.

“I was always like, ‘I want to make my dad proud. I want to make my dad proud.’” The then 22-year-old actor continued, “I truly wasn’t aware of the legacy of him…My dad was just my dad.”

Though it’s cliché, Michael is his dad. The man inherited many of his father’s features and characteristics, like the sleepy yet inviting eyes, a menacing smirk and the soft voice mixed with the colorful language.

“The pressure is real,” he said of playing the mafia don as a youngster. “Not only was it the feeling of my dad – it was like, Tony Soprano is a f***ing hard character.”

    ‘Biggest flirt’

Before Gandolfini had three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe resting on his mantel, he was a regular Italian American kid growing up with his working-class family in a modest Westwood, New Jersey home.

His father served as the building maintenance chief at a Catholic school, and his mother worked as a lunch lady in a high school. He was a “happy, cute little boy,” as described by childhood chum Pam Donlan, who would later become a highly respected actor in Hollywood.

In 1979, the young man, who stood just over 6 ft., was a senior at Park Ridge High School in New Jersey, where he was one of the popular kids.

Excelling in both academics and extra-curricular activities, the Get Shorty star developed his skills as an actor while in high school, where he studied theatre.

It was in these years the Where the Wild Things Are star met John Travolta, whose father owned a store the senior Gandolfini patronized.

“My father sold tires to his father,” Travolta said after Gandolfini died. “I was his inspiration to get into the business…He would see pictures of me on the wall from movies and he decided that he wanted to be an actor.”

Before heading off to Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts, Gandolfini first celebrated his last year at high school with classmates voting him “best looking” and – not surprisingly – “biggest flirt.”

On a Facebook post shared by the Park Ridge community, an old photo of the young star along with a woman, Donna Lange, shows the two as “class flirts.”

“I [love] this picture of Jimmy and Donna…I always remember him like this…happy kid with that killer smile,” writes one old friend. “It’s a great picture of Jim and Donna,” shares another.

Meanwhile, Duff Lambros remembers his childhood friend as having “a “quiet confidence,” and “a cool dignity.” He said, “Girls loved him. Guys loved him.”

The friend adds, “When he cracked that smile, it wasn’t just teeth, he smiled with his eyes. It felt like the sun was shining.”

Travolta – who shared the screen with Gandfolfini in several films – remembers his long-time family friend as a giant not only as an actor, but also in his personal life. “He was a people person first and then everything else,” Travolta said. “He was this beautiful man and I love him very much.”

Despite Tony Soprano’s imposing presence, Gandolfini exhibited remarkable humility and dedication. He humorously characterized himself as a “260-pound Woody Allen,” emphasizing his unassuming nature despite the larger-than-life character he portrayed on screen.

Legendary Cleveland Browns offensive lineman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas called out Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during Saturday’s Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans.

Clay Martin and his NFL referee crew faced immense criticism for several questionable calls that benefited Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs. This included two bizarre “Roughing the Passer” penalties drawn by Mahomes, and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman couldn’t hold back his frustration with one of the calls:

Fed up with the calls that helped Kansas City, Thomas took to X/Twitter and thanked Mahomes for “exploiting the sham” quarterback rules, noting that it could force the NFL to make significant changes:

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and several players voiced their frustrations with the officials after the game. Per ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, Will Anderson Jr. bluntly stated, “We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game.”

Speaking on “NFL Gameday”, NFL officiating rules analyst and former league referee Walt Anderson stated that the two “Roughing the Passer’ penalties against Houston were correct, based on the rules.
