Netflix is set to premiere the highly anticipated documentary series, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, on April 26, 2025. This four-part docuseries offers an in-depth exploration of the iconic rock band’s journey, chronicling their rise from local New Jersey performers to international superstars.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Gotham Chopra, the series features unprecedented access to the band’s personal archives, including 40 years of private videos, unreleased early demos, original lyrics, and never-before-seen photographs. It also includes candid interviews with both current and former band members, providing a comprehensive look at Bon Jovi’s evolution over the decades.
The documentary is structured into four episodes, each focusing on pivotal moments in the band’s history:
“New Jersey vs. Everybody”
: Explores Jon Bon Jovi’s early
“Nowhere to Everywhere”: Details the band’s rapid rise to fame and the accompanying tensions, highlighted by a significant performance in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“Brothers in Arms”: Covers the band’s reinvention at the turn of the millennium and delves into the departure of guitarist Richie Sambora.
“Legendary”
Focuses on Jon Bon Jovi’s personal struggles following Sambora’s exit and the band’s efforts to continue their legacy.
A significant portion of the series addresses Jon Bon Jovi’s vocal challenges, including his vocal cord surgery in 2022 and the subsequent impact on his performance abilities. In a candid moment, Bon Jovi reflects on his future in music, stating, “If I can’t be the guy I was… I’m done.”
The documentary also sheds light on internal band dynamics, such as Richie Sambora’s departure in 2013 due to personal reasons, and the inspiration behind some of their hit songs. For instance, it’s revealed that “Bad Medicine” was inspired by Sambora’s relationship with a sex worker.
