Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Says He Was ‘Frustrated’ About Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl Performance — But Not for the Reason You Think

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been largely ignored by celebrities since his arrest in 2024. He’s currently in prison, and while his arrest shocked the world, it seems like there were signs of his selfish ways years ago.

In a previous interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live!, Combs shared how he was “frustrated” by Justin Timberlake’s 2004 Super Bowl performance with Janet Jackson — but it had nothing to do with her wardrobe malfunction.

Back in 2004, a number of stars took to the stage at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, one incident stands out in everyone’s memory: When Justin Timberlake accidentally ripped off part of Janet Jackson’s top, exposing her bare breasts. It’s arguably not how it should have happened, but it certainly left a mark on pop culture.

Diddy didn’t think much of the situation, but it wasn’t because Jackson’s body was being exploited. Rather, he was upset that his own performance was being overshadowed. Speaking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live! in 2018, Diddy revealed that he was upset about the incident for selfish reasons.

“I want to say I’m still upset about that Super Bowl,” Diddy told Cohen. “I spent six months of my life preparing, and then nobody knew I performed.”

“You guys didn’t even know I performed at the Super Bowl,” he repeated to Cohen’s crowd, and Cohen agreed that he didn’t even know Diddy performed that year.

Combs has been in jail for months, and his trial is set to begin in May. Regardless of which way it goes, it doesn’t look like Diddy will have many more Super Bowl appearances in the future. Many celebrities have gone to great lengths to distance themselves from the mogul, with people like Jay-Z denying ever being friends with Diddy.

Attendees of Diddy’s white parties haven’t been as vocal, but celebrities like Will Smith have even gone so far as to publicly state that they have never had anything to do with Diddy. Diddy has only left the New York City jail, where he resides, a handful of times for court appearances and hospital visits.
