With the NBA’s trade deadline looming, players around the league could be finding new teams by Thursday afternoon, as the festivities were kicked off in a big way with the Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis blockbuster last week. In what is certain to shape not only the Western Conference, but the NBA as a whole as the Lakers find their next face of the franchise, a top player in the league, and the Mavericks believe they’ve built an instant title contender.

Already this week, superstars around the league: De’Aaron Fox, Jimmy Butler, Zach LaVine, Khris Middleton, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram have been traded to new teams. Even the Boston Celtics got in on the trade action, sending guard Jaden Springer and a second-round pick to the Houston Rockets as they look to save my money on the salary cap.

As players around the league are still adjusting to the blockbuster Doncic for Davis swap, Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum was asked about the new look in Dallas. Last summer, the Celtics downed Doncic and the Mavericks in five games to win their 19th championship in NBA history. With Doncic out and Davis in, Tatum believes that point guard Kyrie Irving and the new Dallas big man will figure it out between them very quickly. Talking to the media following the win over the Cavaliers, Tatum was asked about how he feels the fit with Davis and Irving will work.

“I don’t know, it’s going to be a first for everybody to see,” Tatum said in the locker room when speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s victory, but believes they’ll figure it out quickly. “Obviously you know what Kyrie can do and what AD can do, two high-IQ basketball players, they’ll figure it out in no time whenever they do play together.”

Currently in his eighth season in the NBA, Tatum has seen his fair share of big trades and opposing players and teammates alike being moved around, and calls the deadline a weird day. “It’s a weird day, for sure. Just a lot of uncertainty around the league, it shows the business of basketball. Expect the unexpected.”

Boston is not expected to be a major player at the trade deadline, and with so many superstars moved already, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the league shapes up. On Thursday, the Celtics will play host to the new-look Dallas Mavericks, which could also be the debut of Anthony Davis who is currently battling an abdominal muscle strain.
